  1. Seadogs won 17-2 last night. Lowrie was 4-6 with a double and a HR
  2. Stands for Fielding Independent Pitching. Basically measures how well the pitcher has actually pitched. Its actually quite accurate as many have come to find, and normally if a pitchers ERA is really high but his FIP is lower, the ERA tends to trend down towards the FIP figure and vice-versa. Shows pretty clearly here also in that chart. His ERA was quite high for a while and his FIP was much lower, and as you can see the chart his FIP is staying pretty consistent and his ERA is going down to meet that. I've seen others make a Beckett chart from last year, and if you recall to the beginning of the year Beckett's ERA was quite good for a while, however his FIP was in the 5 range, and eventually that evened out. Ill put together a Beckett chart from last year. EDIT: Here it is. All evens out in the end. This year though is a completely different story for Beckett, who actually is the AL leader in FIP. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/rdsxmbnt/beckett06.jpg
  3. Hes had 4 seperate innings where hes walked 3 guys in an inning and another where he walked the first 2. So in 5 of his innings hes accounted for 14 of his 35 walks, thats 40% of his total walks in just 5 innings. In his other 93.2 innings he has a 2.02 BB/9 so control isnt the problem. Having these one inning lapses has been. However, 3 of these 3 walk innings came back in late April-Early May, and last night was the first time in almost 2 months that it happened and it was the first time it happened in the first. But he settled down fine and was great. EDIT: and updated chart http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/rdsxmbnt/Matsuzakachart-1.jpg
  4. If Coco returns to his form (meaning .800+ OPS hitter) then Id strongly consider keeping him. Coco's defense has elevated a ton this year, he may be the best defensive CF in baseball, and a guy who plays defense like that and can hit is extremely valuable. But the sample size is too small to say for sure that hes turned it around. Though batting .583 /.600/1.000/1.600 since he changed his stance is a good start.
  5. Nice job for Manny D. Big spot for him and he comes through.
  6. DiceK first 3 batters: 3 BB DiceK after: 6 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K All hits were singles, and his stuff looked good. Aside from the lapse in the first inning he was awesome today.
  7. clever EDIT: lol schill had similar thoughts
  8. DiceK = nasty when he doesnt have control lapses
  9. Ok Dice i dont know what that was but lets not do that again
  10. welcome
  11. EDIT: nvm ESPN just feeding me lies
  12. Well Ortiz has a 1.205 OPS and Manny has a 1.340 OPS since this thread was made so ya Id say they're doing allright
  13. You are making wayyy to big a deal out of this. He was already 2-2 with a HR and a double and were up 7 runs, and if his quad is tight then take him out, its really not that big of a deal. Any injury that even could potentially be more than one game type injury than I see no problem at all not taking any chances. Drew is what he is. Hes not vocal, hes not critical of his teammates, hes just a quiet player, not everyone needs to be Kevin Millar or Curt Schilling. He's got a lot of talent and has produced in his career. Sorry if hes not one to charge the mound, but he cares, he wouldnt be as good a player as he is if he didnt care. Take Keith Foulke for example, he was more a hockey fan than baseball fan and we won a World Series in large part of him, as long as they produce I could care less if everyone is a 'dirt dog' or vocal, we have PLENTY of other players to fill that roll. And I dont see how Philadelphia has anyone to blame but themselves for the way the Drew situation ended up. Drew and Boras wanted 10 mil, they told everyone that and the Phillies knew, yet they had no intentions to pay him that and drafted him anyway.
  14. I mean from here on out, does his career point him towards a .240 hitter or better?
  15. which way does his career tend to point from where hes at now compared to his career averages?
  16. maybe because hes hitting leadoff at the moment?
  17. Buchholz and Ellsbury named to the USA Futures team, nice accomplishment
  18. Info taken from soxprospects.com: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c65/rdsxmbnt/calebclay.jpg Drafted in the first round sup. and #43 overall out of High School in last years draft. Made his pro debut last night for short season Lowell Spinners: 5.0 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB/1 K Pretty nice debut for the kid, should be interesting to follow him.
  19. 19 inning scoreless streak for Sox pitching. Awesome win.
