  1. If you're going to spend ANYTHING at all at the park...make it $9 for a steak tip sammy with peppers and onions...you won't regret it. Otherwise, take the T in to North Station and then get on the greenline to Fenway. It'll probably cost you like $6 round trip depending on where you're coming from. You're sure to have a great time, but don't plan on getting anything inside Fenway if you're trying to keep the cash to a minimum.
  2. An adult small or medium...I'm just a little guy. I plan on going on what Bonds is on, so I plan on being an XXXXXL by week's end
  3. Talksox.com tshirt? Where can I get my hands on one of these?!?
  4. Way to go folks, you're sure to have a great time at the game. 8 freaking tickets to the Yanks and the Sox...you are something else SFOC, thank you so much for not only this contest, but all of the generosity you bring to the board. You're a true asset to Red Sox Nation. As corny as this is going to sound guys...I've posted on a lot of different Sox web boards and discussion forums and what not, and everyone here is tops. Yea, we've had some idiots, but we've gotten rid of them and we're left with a solid core of people. Everything from the intelligent baseball discussions to the outpouring of sympathy whenever a member has something serious going on in their lives...you people are the best. As one of the newer members here, I'm happy I found this place, plan to stay a while, and hope you all do the same.
  5. ...there's no way they'd move Pena. When they made the deal to get Pena for Arroyo, it was clear the potential they saw in this guy. They made an investment in the future offensive production of the Red Sox, and they aren't going to let it go. And I don't want them to. This guy was a huge peice of raw, unrefined talent when he came to the Sox, and we've seen what a few at-bats, some playing time, and some coaching has done to his skills. There's still more things that need to be fine-tuned, but we have a diamond here guys. I'm in favor of WMP getting starts whenever possible so we can get him used to the defensive side of Fenway Park before next year. I think with Coco gone he'll get a lot of starts, and when Coco comes back (which, who freaking knows when that's going to be now), we could still use him when Manny gets a day off or when Crisp wants a day off or whatever. Trot was great while he was here, and I'm totally in favor of the Sox resigning him this coming off season if he's ok with being a backup outfielder. With the skills that Trot has, I don't think he'll be ok with that, and I think he'll grab another couple of good years somewhere else. Let's just hope it's not in NY
  6. I think this has more of a possibility of coming to the forefront than a lot of the other ridiculous things we've heard. Has anyone ever noticed that when a Yankee goes down, Yankee fans and NY papers throw out the most RIDICULOUS possible scenarios? I can't wait till Giambi goes down and they suggest that the Yanks go for Pujols. It never ceases to amaze me. Andrew Siciliano was in for Jim Rome the other day and compared it to you getting stood up by your prom date and your mom suggesting you call Heidi Klum. It cracks me up. The Yanks have already depleted most of their farm system, they don't have much higher than a mid-range prospect at best.
  7. Is there anyone else that, although dissapointing, would be less pissed if Pujols used 'roids than they are that Bonds did? I'm not suggesting Pujols is, I'm just saying if it were to come out, what would everyone think? I just hate Bonds so freaking much. Why can't he be 26? I don't get it. We've seen freakish athletes and talents before, and we will again. I really hope he is 26, and continues his assault on National League pitching...it's way too early to say, but I feel a little bit more comfortable with Bonds approaching the Babe and Hank with Pujols and ARod waiting in the wings. Anyone with me? I hate ARod as much as the next guy because he plays for the Yankees...but I mean, we can't fault him for not coming to Boston. He was willing to take a paycut to play for a winning team (Boston) and it was the players union who vetoed that. I hate him because he's a Yankee and because of the whole Tek thing...but I'd much rather him go after the record than Bonds.
  8. Alright, as much as I'd love the tickets, those reasons are far more deserving than mine.
  9. Oh man oh man...Sox/Yanks tickets? If SFOC isn't Time Magazine's Man of the Year for 2006, I'm cancelling my subscription. Seriously. And, I also think, on another note, that teachers should really give out Sox/Yanks tickets instead of like, grades. I'm studying up for finals now, and getting myself to buckle down and study is next to impossible, knowing full well all I'm after is a decent grade...a freaking red pen mark on a paper from a teacher. Can you imagine how much easier it would be to study if you knew that doing well entitled you to Sox tickets? I guess I just have to hope that doing well will get me a good job and pay me ubermoney so I can buy someones Sox Season's off of them. Let's keep our fingers crossed. As far as why I should go to the game...wow...that's a tough question. I don't want to claim that I'm a bigger fan than a lot of the other people that post on this board. I think we've got a solid community of people here, and any of them would be a good decision to get the tickets. I'd love to go, I'm just finishing up a semester of school where I've really had to bust my ass, and I'm taking 1st and 2nd summer session classes also, so this would be an awesome thing to do with the little break I get after finals and before the next set of classes start. I've seen Sox/Yanks before, but never ever at Fenway. I was at the game at the Stadium a couple of years ago when Pedro plunked Sori and Jeter in the top of the 1st. The Sox ended up losing that one when they walked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth...needless to say not the result I wanted, but it was a blast to see them none the less. I'd love the chance to not be in the minority and be able to cheer on the Sox amongst other diehards. With the other ticket, I would be taking my friend Casey. I met her when I lived in Florida while interning for Disney. She's an awesome awesome girl and a DIE HARD Sox fan. She lives on Cape Cod in the summer and right outside Boston the rest of the year. Her and I have been trying to find a time that we could get together, and what an AWESOME surprise it would be if I scored us Sox/Yankees tickets. I'm also OBSESSED with Boston as a whole, and when I was there a couple of weeks ago, I had to get back to NY because I had a presentation due...I didn't get to do a lot of the other sightseeing that I wanted to. I was able to do my run along the freedom trail in the morning, but didn't get to spend the time I would have liked. I wanted to take a duck tour and check out the science museum and what not also. I was planning on heading there right after I finished up my finals, and what an amazing way to start off a little Beantown getaway than to go to Sox/Yanks? I really hope I win this. Best of luck to everyone. SFoC, let me know if you want anymore info!
  10. Wow, that's a pretty nasty comparison...for some reason, I don't think when Nomo was "on" and when Willis is "on", you can really compare the two. I know that seemingly doesn't make sense, but Willis just strikes me as far more dominant whenever things are working than Nomo ever did. And I understand your BAA and ERA and what not...but I think confidence in your team goes a long way when it comes to your stats as a picture. I can only imagine in Dontrelle's mind, he feels like he's gotta go out and make perfect pitches time after time after time...because he knows he's not going to get any run support out of his team. If he could go out there, relax, and just try to get outs, I think he'd be a lot better. If you can just rely on your teammates to make plays and score some runs, that allows you as a pitcher to just go out there, relax, and get outs. I don't think he has that kind of luxury in Florida.

  12. Yea, I'd say Paps is the only guy that's 100% off the table, in the Sox mind. Obviously I'm not going to package all the other guys together, but Paps, at least IMO, is the only untouchable.
  13. What do you think it'd take in addition to Hansen or Lester? I know he wouldn't do both, but one combined with something else decent doesn't seem like too out there, with how much the Marlins want prospects and want to cut payroll.
  14. I know Lauria said that Cabrera and Dontrelle were staying put...but you've gotta think that Theo is at least looking at the possibility of bringing Dontrelle to Boston. With the Marlins liquidation at the beginning of the season, I've gotta think that Lauria saying that was just a way to drive up the price for Willis to astronomic proportions. What are the odds that there's a package that the Sox would put together for him? Seeing that that 5th starter position is as huge a question mark as Anderson Cooper's sexuality...they've gotta be looking at least a bit outside the organization. Dontrelle is one of the only guys I'd give up Lester/Hansen in a deal for. I wouldn't do it for Zito (Who, I guess, may be going to New York again for Lastings Milledge...talks have apparently started again...) We've gotta face it...Wells is done. We've gotta do SOMETHING because our number 5 is a huuuuuuuuge diceroll start after start after start.
  15. Although I never EVER condone throwing at a guy's head...pitchers have a right to do what they've gotta do to win back that inner half of the plate. Against Ortiz, against Bonds, against anyone. You've gotta put a guy on his ass sometimes, there's no two ways about it. IMO, we should do away with the freaking armor that hitters are allowed to wear and it would greatly remedy this problem. Yea, I don't think Randy will hit Ortiz tonight, because everyone knows Beckett will go right after ARod, or Jeter, or whoever he gets the chance for. I guess there's a chance that they'll go after him in Game 3...seeing that, besides Paps, we don't have a real flamethrower in the 'Pen and getting hit with the Knuckler is hardly an even trade. Maybe Taveraz will retalliate, and then girly slappunch whoever charges. I'd love to see Taveraz cracked across the face, just saying... I'll tell you what will irritate the HELL out of me, but could very well happen...someone plunks Ortiz, and then a warning is promptly issued to both teams. The last thing we need is Beckett getting tossed and having Rudy and July to carry us through a game at the Stadium.
  16. Boy...Johnson is one ugly sonofabitch.
  17. Tanyon Sturtz is right up there with AJ Pierzaoiusdhfuhski as "Player I can't stand yet don't really have a reason to despise to the extent that I do"
  18. At what point to Yanks fans realize that Johnson just doesn't have it anymore?
  19. I've got a bunch of autos, but have never ever eeever paid for one. I think it means something extra when you actually go in person and somehow get it. Be it waiting at that little slot at Fenway or hanging out outside the players exit at City Of Palms Park...it's awesome. Call me a nerd, but even kind of a rush. I chased Manny's low-rider red Impala 3 blocks this year, he rolled down his window, finally, and laughed at me. I couldn't really hold a conversation with him cause I was too fat and out of shape haha. But he gave it to me! He probably imagined himself having to run 3 blocks...he'da been worse off than me Alright...I'll pose a question...of all the CURRENT professional atheltes you've ran into IN PERSON, who has been the nicest? I think it goes so far when guys go out of the way to treat fans well.
  20. Eh, I'd like to agree with you. But I think that a solid way of measuring how strong your bullpen is, outside of statistics, is how good you feel about them coming into a game with a one-run lead...and I'd be lying to you if I said that I don't damn near s*** myself everytime we're up a run and Seanz, Tavarez, or pretty much any of those jobbers besides Timlin and Pappy come in. That's why we pretty much NEED our starters go to 7.
  21. David Wells's Biography was hysterical. I'm not a huge boomer fan, but you feel like you're reading the bio of a college frat boy with all the partying he does, it was a riot. My Favorite Summer: 1956 about the Mick was an awesome book. I assume everyone here has already read Now I Can Die In Peace by Bill Simmons? If not, and if, by some chance, you've never read any of Simmon's columns on Page 2 on ESPN.com, you're really missing out. The guy is HYSTERICAL. He writes his columns almost like conversations between friends. It's hard to explain, but if you read him, you'll get what I mean. Game of Shadows was interesting, if not good.
  22. Does anyone know if Coco was given the green light to steal whenever he feels he can? I know the Sox don't run much, but I like the idea of him being able to swipe a bag when he sees the opportunity.
  23. He's also facing the majority of these guys for the very first time, not to mention getting a boku of runs a game. I hope he does well, I always liked Bronson, but don't think for a second he's going to stay as dominant as he's been. When hitters get more looks at him, they'll be able to adjust.
  24. I'd cheer his first at-bat...fact of the matter is, without him, I whole-heartedly believe there wouldn't be a championship yet in Boston and we'd be entering the 88th year of "The Curse". After that, he's just another Yankee.
  25. His last 2 starts have been against 2 of the best offensive teams in the AL...we saw what he can do against middle of the road teams in his first couple of starts...
