  1. Yea, there's no way Wilt never slipped one past the goalie with all those women. Pregnancies occur in about 3 out of every 100 women that use condoms correctly regularly. So, statistically, wouldn't that mean that there are potentially 300 little Will's running around somewhere? Hmmm...do the Grizzlies still need a center? hahaha :dunno:
  2. Dude...today's society is screwed up. There are no two ways about it. The divorce rate is over 50%. A kid being born IN wedlock gives him LESS than a 1 in 2 shot of remaining in a married, 2 biological parent household. And even in that situation...who's to say that child is better off? People are getting married for messed up reasons, households are falling apart for EVERY reason, kids are being left in foster care, fathers are denying paternity... Being born "in wedlock" doesn't hold the same water that it used to.
  3. Is there such a thing as a "private thread" on here? Like that only certain people can see? I know we could post on the message board in the league within Yahoo!, but I like this format way better. You think we'll have any problems with it getting cluttered by people not in the league? I'm totally in for the dues idea.
  4. Doesn't that run on vegetable oil, too? haha
  5. Wise decision on the Sox part...IMO, if Schilling can prove to be even a competent third or fourth starter (next year's third or fourth), they should give him a new one-year deal to finish out his career in Boston. I'm not much for "owing" a player anything, but for what he did for this squad in '04, we should let him finish up here if that's what he wants.
  6. I'm on the fence right now...I was totally going to do it, but it came to my attention that there already IS a commited TalkSox fantasy league, and I'm afraid if I start another one, I'll get all the stragglers that were put out of that one with reason. Thoughts?
  7. I think he's handling the situation perfectly... Kilo, if you've never had any kind of pregnancy scare in your life, even WITH the use of a condom, you probably haven't had your fair share of sex. It happens, belieeeeeve me it happens. Rather than deny it being his, rather than arguing and say he wanted a test, rather than making a HUGE deal out of it...he comes out, says he's excited about it, and is ready to take responsibility for it. In this day in age, that IS a good role model, if you ask me.
  8. "You go from sleeping over at somebody's house five days a week, and now you don't sleep over. It's just not that big of a deal." Ummm...I mean...I have a lot of close guy friends...and short of crashing on each other's couch once in a while when we weren't in the proper physical shape to drive home, we never did the whole sleepover thing. Well, at least not since I was like 10. That comment struck me as really funny...
  9. Baseball has always been the least physically demanding of any of the four major sports. Schill's got a gut, what else is new? He's never been the portrait of physical fitness, and I don't think he ever will be. I hope that he took the off-season to rest up and take care of the bumps, bruises, strains, sprains, pulls, and tears that he had. Now we're into Spring Training and he's a seasoned veteran...he'll do what's neccessary to get his body to where it needs to be to perform at a high level. There are a ton of "if's" facing the Sox this year, but Schilling getting into game shape is not even remotely one of them in my mind. I haven't a single doubt.
  10. Look...if loving grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup is wrong...I don't wanna be right.
  11. I throw right, bat kiiiiiiiiiiiinda switch...predominantly righty but I can get a bunt down and make contact left. My dad wanted me to be a switch when I was a kid...it didn't work out.
  12. I asked Rizzuto how he was feeling (I was about 11 or 12 at the time) and he said "Fine...and I'm getting sick of people asking me." Thanks *******, nevermind. Hate him. Really like Yogi... I like Mantle...became a great guy in his older years. Never got the chance to meet him at Inductions because he always said that he wouldn't go back until Billy Martin was put it. His speech of "I am a role model...don't be like me." I thought was true, candid, and awesome. Can't help but like the Mick. (And besides...he was just the first coming of JD Drew, right? ) Can't help but give it up for JoeD...he could mash, and he banged Marilyn Monroe. What more do you want? Haha. Reggie needs to check his ego big time and be a little warmer to people. If it wasn't for being a Sox fan...I wouldn't have started to hate the Yanks until relatively recently. I hate their administration, how they lack all sorts of loyalty, how they spend all the money in the freaking WORLD...that wasn't always the case. It's weird...the players have gotten harder to hate on the Yanks (I like the way Jeter plays, I like Mo, I liked Bernie, I can't help but like Matsui because he's never said anything that I could understand that I don't like :dunno: , Moose is a class act, Cano seems like a good guy)...yet the team has gotten farrrrrrrrrr easier to hate than they were previously.
  13. That's pretty awesome...good for you. You going to tell us your name yet so we can follow you?
  14. Well I mean, it wasn't anything formal...just dugout chatter I guess.
  15. I'm not sure if I mentioned this any where already...but a guy my dad works with is really best friends with Joe Nathan. Apparently at All-Star weekend, Torre told JN not to sign any long-term extensions because Steiny and Cashman had named him personally as Mo's successor in the future. Who knows, maybe Mo for another year or two? When's Nathan's contract up? :dunno:
  16. A good point...but when you found out last year that a rookie with no/limited closing experience was going to be handling the 9th innings for the Sox, did you think he was going to able to put together a 35 save season with an ERA sub 1? Of course not... I'm not saying another Papelbon is going to come from this crop...all I'm saying is you don't neccessarily have to have a big name in order to step up.
  17. He won't get $20 million for a half season...I think this is a common misconception. He'll get what EQUALS $20 million for a full season, meaning, he'll get $10 million for a half season. It's pro-rated.
  18. That's exactly how I feel about Wang. Living in Syracuse, I get eeeeeevery Yanks game on YES so I've watched him consistently the past two seasons or so...and I don't get it. I know his numbers were impressive last season, and Yankee fans are really high on his potential...I just don't see it. I don't get why this guy, if this guy, will be so good. I've seen some decent stuff from him, but I'm not sold on him like a lot of other people are. Both rotations are good with 2 solid veterans and three young (moreso young in the Sox situation) arms...should be a fantastic season.
  19. Chicago offered him $11.25/yr or something, and he was asking for $15...I don't think those figures are too far apart to get something done. I really hope he stays with Chicago.
  20. I don't think he's neccessarily expecting anything out of Papelbon, but moreso pointing out that the ability and talent is there. We all saw what he was capable of last year...I'm chomping at the bit to get out there and have him prove that it wasn't a fluke.
  21. Great story...but I wish the players got as into it as the fans do. I want a rivalry where the players hate each other in addition to the fans. The Damon thing showed that this thing is kept alive by the fans and if it weren't for us, Sox/Yanks would be another Sox/Jays or Sox/Os.
  22. Now...I'm a little confused by the whole Red Seat thing...because all through growing up and being a Sox fan, I was told and thought that the Red Seat signified (at the time) the furthest homerun ever hit into the bleachers at Fenway. While I was talking to my dad at a game last year, this one girl (who was fat, unattractive, and annoying...but that's neither here nor there)...corrected me and said that it was the homerun hit in his last at bat and had nothing to do with distance. We debated. Who's right, or are we both?
  23. I'm so jealous...when I lived in ORL, I'd take tours of spring training all over the Grapefruit League...some of the best times I can remember. I used to blow off class all the time to go to games...probably why I didn't get much credit during those 3 years :dunno: But, YOLO, You Only Live Once, and it was a GREAT time. You ever go to the workouts or have you just gotten down for games? The workouts are where I've met all of the guys. Did you ever get over to see the Twins while you're in Ft. Myers? I've never seen a more fan-friendly team...absolutley unbelievable. Definitley worth going to if you want some time away from City of Palms Park.
