    Freddy Sanchez wasn't a starter...then he became one because of an injury and won a batting title. Tiki Barber wasn't a starter...then he became one because of an injury and became one of the top 5 HBs in the NFL. David Ortiz wasn't an everyday player...then he became one and now he's David FREAKING Ortiz. Larry Johnson wasn't a starter...then he became on because of an injury and now he's one of the top 5 HBs in the NFL. Gilbert Arenas wasn't a starter...then he became one and is now one of the top 10 players in the NBA. Jonathan Papelbon wasn't a closer in the bigs...then he became one because of an injury and now he's one of the most dominant closers in the game. Do you want more examples of guys needing to be afforded opportunities? Or is this enough for you? I even gave you multiple sports because it's clear you're not very baseball-minded...

    I get as irritated with Dougie's AWFUL plate performances as anyone...but the fact is, as long as Wake is in the rotation, he's invaluable to this team. Without Doug, the Sox O needs to score 3 more runs a game to account for passed balls. And with the way the O has been performing, another 3 would be doubling what we've been getting.

    I saw a crazy stat somewhere a while back that said that Nomar bats like .390 when swinging at the first pitch. If this team can hit 3/4 of that, I'm in favor of them forgetting to work counts all the time.

    I couldn't disagree with this any stronger. I can understand being disheartened after the offseason that Nomar experienced...he was the face of the franchise for a number of years and the second-coming of Ted Williams and then all of a sudden, he's to be on a plane headed to Chicago for Magglio Ordonez? I'd be pissed if I were Nomar, too. I do know this...he never held anything against the fans of Boston. I met him at Spring Training immediatley following that whole debacle and he was the guy signing autographs and posing for pictures after practice for an hour a day and making himself available to his fans. He recognized that it was a dick move by the FO and had nothing to do with the people that had come to adore him all these years. Do I think that being upset, disappointed, and depressed lead to his poor play? I don't think it's completley at fault, but I think that there's something to it. Whether or not you choose to believe he quit on the team or whatever, that's up to you...I personally don't. I wish Nomar the absolute best in the years to come and hope things continue to work out well for him in LA.

    I don't think it was due to the sickness. I mentioned it before...generally speaking, it's not cancer that makes someone weak and frail. It's the treatment to the cancer that can really drain someone. Maybe he was dialing it down because he didn't think he could control it as well when he dialed it up...but I'll tell you one thing, he never got anywhere close to 96 in the Majors that I've seen.
