the sox prolly would do that trade but john shurholtz likely wouldn't....he is one of the best GM's in the game and has some of the best talent evaluators on his staff. the braves rarely get swindled in any trade. they will not do a John Smoltz trade without acquiring a young up an coming starting pitcher in return.

what young arms can they get that say the red sox won't get. its not like their payroll is high. its in the 70's and atlanta is not a small market team.

there payroll is fine. they don't need to cut payroll. what they need is good young starting pitching like they had in the early 1990's.

For the braves to make any deal for smoltz it would have to include just about major league ready pitchers. There offense is fine. Its their pitching that sucks.
