  1. ok first doug mirabelli for a starting second baseman is a deal you do 100 times out of 100. mirabelli is a career backup while loretta is a career .301 hitter that was injured last yr. beckett didnt fall into their lap because florida also had the rangers involved and the red sox package was better. renteria in the sox opinion is on the back end of his career and when you can get a top 5 prospect in marte you do the deal. and the red sox werent gonna overpay to get overbay who is not worth giving up top prospects that the brewers would have requested. the red sox were never gonna give damon 52 million as that is an overpay. i have full faith in this front office as this team is gonna have flexibility and get younger at the same time.
  2. boras cons every team every yr. he calls teams bluffs constantly and team always fall for it. at least the red sox called his bluff last yr on varitek
  3. i really don't care about damon to tell you the truth. he will get booed in boston but whatever. thats on him for signing with the yankees. his image will take a hit as he will be just another guy in new york. im happy the red sox didnt even have a chance to match the offer because it is an overpay
  4. The sox now will agressively pursue getting either Jeremy Reed or Coco Crisp. I would prefer Reed as he is a centerfielder while Crisp is really a corner outfielder. Arroyo and a lesser prospect(Alvarez) for Reed
  5. If anyone wants to feel any better Andrew Jones becomes a free agent next year. That is the guy the Yanks should have went after instead but I'm happy they took Damon from us for that kind of money. 13 mil a yr for him is too much. that money can be better spent.
  6. they signed bernie when he didn't have alot of wear and tear on his body like damon has. damon has taken a beating the last 2 seasons physically.
  7. i can't wait for next yrs draft where we can stock the system again with all the draft picks. lets get reed for next season. then we will let trot come off the books....move reed to right and bring in andrew jones.
  8. this is not going in the wrong direction. the red sox placed a value on johnny damon and stuck to it. when you consider the fact that he has alot of wear and tear on his body plus he has no arm and is already 32 yrs old then 13 mil a season is too much money to commit to him. the team needs to get younger anyways. we will take the 2 draft picks and stockpile the farm system. plus next yr andrew jones becomes a free agent and i also think torri hunter is a free agent too. i want andrew jones anyday over johnny damon.
  9. clemens and damon are two different players. damon has shown he is wearing down while clemens when he left the red sox was completely out of shape and then got in shape. damon will not be that great towards the end of the deal
  10. well that the end of the idiot image the red sox wanted to get rid of
  11. red sox will look to get jeremy reed now from seattle
  12. an overpay for damon. too much money. ill take the draft picks instead
  13. petagine is still under contract with the red sox according to the teams website.
  14. cross choi off anyones list for playing first next yr. he will not be non tendered as the Dodgers re-signed him to a one-year, $750,000 contract.
  15. the cardinals are a great organization that has seemed to be cheap the last few years. for them to move into a new stadium in 2006 and then complain about money its pretty ridiculous. there window of opportunity is slowly closing with every passing yr.
  16. Interesting thing I just read on MLB4U: the Padres maybe planning to sign J.T. Snow and spin Gonzalez to the Red Sox with along with Woody Williams or another player for David Wells
  17. Having Loretta at shortstop hurts the teams defense. Both Loretta and Graffanino already have average range at best. They need someone who can cover some ground at short and can hit alittle. The red sox went into this offseason not wanting to bring back graffanino but they did not want to lose him for nothing and now the plan has backfired. I see the sox moving him as they really do not need him anymore with loretta on this team.
  18. from what i have heard seanez gets a base salary that guarantees him $2.1 million and could be worth up to $5.3 million over two years if he pitches regularly as a setup man. Seanez has a $1.9 million base salary next year, and the Red Sox have a 2007 option at $2.1 million plus whatever performance bonuses he earns in 2006. If the option is declined, Seanez would get a $200,000 buyout. In 2006 only, Seanez would get $25,000 each for 10 and 15 games, $50,000 each for 25, 30 and 35 games and $100,000 for 40 games and each additional five games through 60. If he becomes Boston's closer and has 30 games finished next year, the option becomes a player option. He also can earn $500,000 annually based on games finished.
  19. carlos pena is looking like he could be a non tender and the padres acquired adrian gonzalez today. maybe do a a package involving wells to try and get gonzalez from the padres.
  20. the money can be spent elsewhere like getting a firstbaseman, a shortstop, a centerfielder, and maybe a backup catcher who is better than huckaby. the red sox obviously don't want him back as they really didn't even make an offer to him except an offer of arbitration which they wanted in order to get the draft picks.
  21. there really is not much on the free agent market for shortstops. gonzalez is out there. he is very good defensively but has a career obp of .291. that really does not fit into the red sox mold. rich aurilia is out there but he is old and might not have alot left in the tank. i would want julio lugo but not at the bounty the drays are holding on him. the angels seem content to get rid of cabrera as they offered him to the sox if the sox took the entire contract. right now its tough to say who will be the opening day shortstop.
  22. As much as I enjoyed graffanino last season, there really is no place for him on the team. With Loretta, Cora, Machado, and Pedroia waiting down in pawtucket, all tony is going to be is an expensive bench player. he does not have the range to play shortstop. I look for the Red Sox to trade him before spring training. the red sox took a chance to see if they could get some draft picks and it backfired. no biggie. teams like the mets, cardinals, and mariners really dont have second baseman and would probably show some interest so there is a market for graffanino just not a market in which a team had to give up a first round pick.
  23. once they got mota and the seanez deal became official you knew bradford was expendable considering the sox also want to give young guys like delcarmen and hansen a chance.
