    Because for certain players the price is higher. They didn't have to trade Beckett. They wanted Lowell gone so badly that hey we will trade Beckett if some team takes Lowell and also give up some pretty high prospects.

    Ben Julianel is a nobody and thats why you got villone. He isnt anything special and those guys are used to get average pitchers like villone.

    Lowell had 18 million remaining on his deal coming off a horrible. The Marlins wanted badly to dump him. Mota was also a throw in as well as he wasn't very good last year as he has an injury history. I really had thought you were a knowledgable baseball person even if you are a Yankee fan but I guess not.

    The Red Sox parted with 2 top 50 BA prospects for Beckett who never even won 20 games in a season and also had to take on Lowells contract. It will cost at least 2 top prospects to get Willis from the Marlins.

    And you need to take your yankee glasses off and think that you can get Willis without parting with both Hughes and Duncan as a start.

    Trust me.....If Tyler Clippard is the headliner of a deal for Willis it should be blocked immediately. He not a blue chip prospect by any means and not highly thought of through baseball. To get Willis it will require at least 2 top prospects in an organization plus at another 1-2 decent prospects as well. He may be on the trading block but the ransom will be a high one and one the Yankees don't have the chips to anti.

    The Red Sox were forced to take Lowell who was brutal last year and Mota was only thrown in after the red sox raised questions about beckett. He is better than Willis but the price was high given the uncertainty of the players in the deal.

    Not bad for alvarez but he is still a fringe prospect and a big season is what the sox need from him to increase his trade value.

    He is in AA ball because he can work on his pitches there and no one will care unlike triple A where the competition is greater.

    Great win for the Sox.....Beckett battled but pitched well. Lowell's day was encouraging. There is life in his bat still. Youkilis was solid as the leadoff hitter and Stern did the job in center. Foulke a solid job as well and it would have looked better if not for Pena but sometimes those things happen and Papelbon is just Papelbon, a dominating pitcher in the making.
