  1. I think it is more accurate to say that the lineup is a hole.
  2. This is the polar opposite of the 2013 team.
  3. The horror show continues.
  4. I can't see getting Craig for Peavy--- maybe Roger Craig. I'd definitely accept the offer of CRaig.
  5. Hopefully, they bring these guys up and give them playing time. That will give us a reason to watch the games. If they delude themselves into thinking they are still in the race, we may see the same old duds out there. If that happens, the rest of 2014 will be a snooze- fest.
  6. When things are not going well. Farrell like most managers can't figure out how to get out of a paper bag. Playing Betts is a positive for a few reasons. It would help him develop as an Outfielder, and he needs a position. Pedroia has second base locked down for a few seasons. It will help him learn to hit at the major league level. Finally, it will inject some badly needed production into the lineup. There is no downside to playing him. There is a downside to keeping him on the bench. It will impede his development.
  7. This is a super stinker -- on pace to be the worst Sox team in 50 years. People wouldn't have cared if this was merely a .500 team that played some meaningful games. People had higher expectations than this horror show. After the excitement of last season, this is a tremendous let down. It's always worse to fail after having elevated people's expectations. If this team stays on its current couse, Fenway will be a ghost town by the first week of August. People will not be able to give away their tickets.
  8. And we are left to wildly speculate about transformational moves and acquisitions, because the 2014 team has given us nothing to talk about with regard to the games. Following up a World Championship with a last place team is like following a strike in bowling with 2 gutter balls. You just lost the advantage of getting a strike. After winning a World Championship, your team usually gets a lot of coverage. People usually turn out in larger numbers to see the defending World Champions at home and on the road. Instead of capitalizing on the good will of the World CHampionship, they send out the equivalent of the Houston Astros (less the young power hitters). They squandered their good will in record time. If I were one of the owners, I'd be really upset.
  9. Maybe Bobby V wasn't fully at fault after all. This year's team is worse than the 2012 version.
  10. This cannot be blamed on a rebuilding year or a bridge year. This is essentially the same team as last year with a big payroll. The FO has to take the hit for this horribly constructed team.
  11. Eck summarized the game correctly in the studio by calling the offense pathetic.
  12. The HR ball is killing Bunch this season. He is giving up an alarming number of long balls.
  13. Wow, this team is soo dead that it has killed all discussion about them.
  14. We have last place all to ourselves. What a disgrace!
  15. Can't blame Peavy for this game. Badenhop has thudded back to earth.
  16. He's not a Sox prospect, but the kid interests me, because of what his grandfather said about him. He said that the kid has the drive and desire. Coming from him that means a lot. Yaz was a guy whose drive and desire pushed him to greatness. After seeing Pedroia work and will himself to greatness, I have become a big believer that drive and desire are the key differentiators at the professional level. It is the one thing that is the most difficult to evaluate, because you can't see it unless the you watch a guy everyday. The kid is only in Advanced A, but he advanced quickly to this level. He was dominating at the A level, before being promoted a couple of weeks ago.
  17. And Gomes' numbers are great against lefties. It is such an obvious platoon that would be productive.
  18. Drew proving the Blind Squirrel theory.
  19. Get ready for a lot of goose eggs by our lineup. We need Napoli or Pedroia to go deep. It's the only chance we have. This is is the same bad movie that we have been watching since opening day. Don't expect a differnt result.
  20. he's a terrible baserunner - bad instincts and slow.
  21. I am glad that you are still engaged, but I do think they will be confronted by a big decline in fan interest if they keep rolling out garbage and losing.
  22. I love Ortiz, but is DHing in a doubleheader too strenuous? I could understand it if they were throwing a tough lefty, but not against a mediocre righty like Gonzalez.
  23. Better yet, he is providing protection for Napoli. The bottom 5 of this game's lineup is gag inducing. Lester needs to give up no more than 1 run if he wants to have a chance.
  24. This is the problem confronting the FO. If diehards like you, are despondent and uninterested, their business has a problem- a big problem.
  25. Ortiz will be sitting the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. That should help supercharge the offense.
