    Bradley's batting stance adjustment has turned him around. He's on fire going 3 for his last 23 ABs. The guy stinks.

    Theo falls in love with certain guys. Darnell McDonald, Ryan Sweeney, Anthony Rizzo and now Doubront. The Rizzo-love looks justified.

    With all the talk being about Lester and Price and Lackey, I was surprised that the first big name to get traded is Masteson.

    E1, good to see you. Stick around if you have some time. You make good points, and when I have some time tonight, I will put together a more thoughtful response. Keep in mind that young pitchers and prospects are just as likely to go down with an injury or underperform-- maybe even more likely. Of course the financila investment in them would be small compared to Lester. The one difference is that while Lester remains healthy, you know that you will be getting ace-like performance for a few more years. Prospects are just crap-shoots. I think the Sox have to start filling in the rotation with some young arms, but I also think they need one or two guys to build around. Lackey even with an extension should be fairly cost-controlled. Lester would be a big invesstment, but I think they could have raised the AAV and shortened the term to a reasonable 4 or 5 years. Reports are that they have made nothing beyond one nonserious offer. I think it is a mistake. TTYL.

    This whole Lester situation is so distressing. The FO has bungled the season and they have mishandled the negotiations with our best pitcher to the point that it looks like he will be traded. It doesn't matter to me who they get in return for Lester. As far as I am concerned, the FO screwed up the situation irredeemably. If we get the #10 rated prospect in return, I will not feel better about it. How can I get excited to lose a top 10 major league pitcher and All Star for a #10 rated prospect? I can't.

    LOL!! Maybe if Yaz could pitch too. My comment was of course tongue in cheek. I have great respect for Jeter,because he did strap on the gear and play every day even when he was banged up. That's how Yaz was. In that respect they were very similar. I hope Jeter gets a good send off from the Fenway Faithful. It will not be the same watching the Yankees without him. I have told this story before. I was at Fenway for Yaz Day (his next to last game). As I was buying the tickets from a scalper, I got grabbed around the neck from behind and the guys grabbing me knew my name. I turned around and and it was old friends from High School. They were all Yankee fans and we had had bitter arguments through high school 1975-1977. I said to them. "Can't you leave the guy (Yaz) alone on his day?" They told me that they thought he was a great player and they wanted to be there at the event. I was flabbergasted at their show of good sportsmanship. I also remember that the ceremony for Yaz at Yankee Stadium on his last visit was also very nice. Jeter deserves the same treatment.

    I have said it before. Three rookies in any rotation would result in a last place team and a debacle of a season. Two rookies would guarantee 4th place and missing the playoffs. If De La Rosa gets some good big league experience over the remainder of the season, they could be successful pairing him with a rookie, but two rookies with no track record equals failure.

    Congratulations to Derek Jeter who passed Yaz to move into 7 th place on the all time hit list. Of course if Yaz slapped at the ball like a girl and was satisfied with opposite field bitch hits, he would easily have had a couple of hundred more hits.

    Bucholz has been so horrendous that he has all but ruined his trade value. He is under contract for 2015 with team options for 2016 and 2017. The 4 year contract that he was given after 2011 turned out to be a poor decision.

    The guy has been a great hitter for a long time. He is not merely very good. Of he gets to 500 home runs the only question ois whether factors unrelated to his hitting keep him fropm getting inducted.

    Yaz was always pretty humble for a superstar. He always thought of himself as just a hardworker who achieved, but I and others here can tell you that he was very talented. This is extremely high praise for Ortiz as Yaz rarely speaks to the press. He withdrew from public life after his retirement to hunting and fishing. He's not just blowing smoke for Ortiz or the organization. He's just not that type of person. I remember him hating DHing at the end of his career.
