According to a report from Chris Cotillo of MassLive, Boston has had some discussions with free agent starter John Means. Once a promising hurler, the southpaw’s career has been derailed by injuries over the last three years. He underwent his second Tommy John procedure this past May and will not be able to pitch for most of the 2025 season. An 11th-round draft pick in 2014, Means was never a highly-ranked prospect. However, he pitched reasonably well throughout the minor leagues and earned a spot on Baltimore’s Opening Day roster in 2019. After three strong appearances from the bullpen, he made his first big league start in mid-April and continued to thrive out of the rotation. He was named an All-Star that summer and finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting that fall.

He may be closer to the Show than you give him credit.

I like the pitching. If Devers is healthy, the lineup might have enough consistency and punch, but it doesn’t make me feel great.

We need some offensive punch too. The current offense on the roster will just not compete with other teams. And there is a big fall off from Soto. Betts looks like a bargain at this point. That was a monumental mess up by the Red Sox.

I like Luis Robert a lot, but aren’t there concerns whether he can stay on the field!

How many years of control does Casas have remaining? You are probably right that his value isn’t very high, but we don’t have many high value disposable pieces.

There was zero chance of the Red Sox outbidding the Mets and the Yankees. Zero chance.

At a minimum, Breslow should add Snell and Teoscar Hernandez for 2025.

Underrated as a big game pitcher. He belongs in the Hall of Fame. That was a terrible oversight. He was a great person too.

He died at age 83 and loved baseball so much that he said that he would walk through hell wearing a gasoline suit to play baseball.

What did Breslow realistically expect from Paxton? I think he got it.

The production from the catching position has been good, and Jansen is RH. Wong has been a solid RHH. I don’t get it. Paxton faded in the second half last season, so he’s not much of an upgrade, if any. These are not very helpful. Need a good pen arm or two.

Above all this team is boring.

This team has no shot. Sell everyone. I hope they don’t keep so much salary like they have been doing to get busted prospects. I’d rather dump the whole salary and get nothing in return like Ben did in 2012.

It never made sense and was stupid from day 1 as was the Mookie trade. Sure we can explain the reasons for the stupidity, but it is still stupidity.

How anyone can argue that the Sale trade was anything other than a colossal f*** up is mind boggling. Too funny.And the same goes for the Mookie trade.
