  1. I'd take the year Griffey had last year.
  2. I think you are right, but my brethren go crazy at the suggestion.
  3. Have you seen him play in person or just on TV? He's still something to see -- a premier talent. It would be a thrill for Sox fans. Reed is a marginal talent.
  4. I think Jr. has something left in the tank, and he is one the top talents in the history of the game. At 50% he is better than most players. Reed yet to prove that he belongs at the ML level. He could be out of baseball and forgotten in 3 or 4 years.
  5. If the D-Rays carry two catchers, they only have room for 9 pitchers with their current roster. At least 2 guys have to go or be sent to the minors.
  6. In the years that Griffey misses 130 games, he still hits more homers than Reed in a full year.
  7. ARod is going to maintain his neutrality. I heard that he will be playing for Switzerland.
  8. They might drop their price. They are loaded up with infielders and outfielders. They have to move someone to get some pitching. Infielders Sean Burroughs Jorge Cantu Nick Green Travis Lee Julio Lugo B.J. Upton Ty Wigginton Outfielders Rocco Baldelli Carl Crawford Joey Gathright Jonny Gomes Damon Hollins Aubrey Huff Delmon Young
  9. I like Graffy. I think his versatility should allow him to get a fair amount of playing time, if they keep him. As for Lugo, I am not crazy about his D, but if they could get him cheap, I think they should go for it.
  10. Late inning infield defense is just not as high a priority as SS, CF or a 4th OF to platoon with Nixon. This move is just a yawn. If they get a SS, they have Cora for infield defense. Does this move mean that Cora will be the starting SS? I hope not.
  11. I don't doubt that Damon would have left, but we can never know for sure. One thing we do know is that without Theo, the FO looked like keystone cops during the Damon episode. It was not confidence inspiring.
  12. I'd rather have an old Griffey for 2 years than Reed for 4 years. Griffey is an all-time great, with more talent in his old body than Reed would have if he could clone himself.
  13. I don't get this move. They need a RH hitter to sub for Nixon against tough lefties. All this move does is make it likely that Graffy will be moved or released.
  14. I think they have realized that the twins were not up to the job after they let Damon slip away.
  15. A leadoff hitter should be able to go first to third, and Youk is a bit of a turtle. It would take a minimum of two hit to score him. The comparisons to Boggs are completely unwarranted. While Boggs was also slow, he hit a boat load of doubles every year, and his OBP was out of sight. Youk will be lucky if his OBP is as high as Boggs' BA.
  16. Sheffield would not go unless he gets a new contract.
  17. I don't think anyone said anything about booing Millar. I am sure that he'll get a nice hand when he returns. We just don't want him playing 1B or batting 6th in 2006. Would you have liked to see Leyritz starting at 1B in any of the years since 1996? BTW I thought the underage sex thing would have made Polonia popular with Yankee fans.
  18. It wouldn't hurt Well's knee-health if he ate a salad once in a while. He is a helluva pitcher when he can get on top of his curve.
  19. I like the idea of getting Craig Wilson to be a 4th outfielder and the right handed complement to Nixon. Neither Wilson nor Youk would seem to be needed by the A's. They are set at 1B and in the OF. Plus, the Sox would create another hole at 1B if they trade Youk.
  20. I think the Coco Crisp trade is unlikely and it would be costly in terms of prospects. If the Sox have to give up any blue-chippers, i.e., Lester, to get Crisp, it would have been better to keep Damon. IMO Crisp does not have that high of a ceiling. He'll be lucky to be as good as Damon. I'm also not sold on Reed. I have heard that he is very strong defensively. His stick has been nothing to brag about and speed (base-stealing) is not part of his game. With Roberts, he has defensive skills. His offense is no worse than Reed's and he is a weapon on the bases. I'd prefer to get Roberts for a year or two until the kids on the farm are ready. That being said, SD has to drop the demand to take Williams. That would make no sense.
  21. At least this indicates that age 36 he is not in decline. We could live with the OBP. He would score a lot of runs with that OBP in the Red Sox lineup.
  22. It would be ridiculous to take on a big contract like Williams that would return next to nothing to the Red Sox. If this is what it takes to get Roberts, they would have been better off spending the monwy by signing Damon
  23. As long as he doesn't hit a booing fan.
