  1. Nothing but my own funeral would keep me away from Fenway if I had tickets.
  2. While the Luca Brasi choke was memorably graphic, it only lasted a few seconds. By comparison, the Yankee Choke lasted 4 long excruciating days. No movie director would dare subject the audience to such prolonged horror.
  3. I guess you are an authority of Red Sox clubhouse dynamics as well as a psychiatrist. If you want to talk about guys with no testicles, you need look no further than ARod who spits the bit in every key situation.
  4. Last year Foulke was damaged goods. Without his leg under him his command moreso than his velocity was way off. He's healthy now, and he's as mentally tough as they come. He's been through the pressure cooker before and he thrives on it. If he could pitch scoreless ball through the 2004 ALCS, he can walk through the fire. If anyone had that look in his eye in that Series it was Mo in game 4 after he walked Millar.
  5. Not defensively. A-Gone has a significant edge.
  6. So, Papelbon wasn't warmed up when he came in? If Tavarez gets suspended, they can probably carry Hansen.
  7. Not a good outing by Papelbon. 5 hits in 1 1/3 inning. That's ugly. I expected Wells to get spanked. He has not had enough work. Hopefully, he'll stay behind and pitch to some minor leaguers during the first two weeks. If he sits on his ass, he'll give a performance like this when he comes back.
  8. Damn! That would have been fun to watch. It sounds like Taverez got the better of the fight. I hope he didn't hurt his pitching hand. Any other scuffles in the melee?
  9. For the most part, Seanez has been facing the same scrubs as he has faced few starters, neither has has Riske, yet they have not had good results. Riske has been hit very hard and Seanez has had terrible command and allowed a ton of base runners. Hansen is ML ready. As a 5th option out of the pen, he is some talent to trot to the mound. Riske and Seanez are journeymen. The kid Hansen is a budding star who has already surpassed them.
  10. It's hard to make the argument that he needs seasoning when he hasn't been touched all spring. I give him the nod right now over Riske, Seanez and Del Carmen. IMO, Papelbon is not that much ahead of him right now. Without additional seasoning, he is easily the 5th best guy out of the Pen, with nowhere to go but up. I would bring him north and let him learn and get seasoned by watching veterans like Timlin and Foulke. Timlin would love to take the kid uder his wing. I don't think he has anything to learn at AAA.
  11. It's hard to send him down if he doesn't get touched all spring. That was a filthy slider to Burrell.
  12. A two-inning save for Hansen, and still no runs allowed. Durrington plays a lot of positions, and he has looked more than adequate at all of them. He has the makings of a super-sub.
  13. They like to eat early, so the restaurants are not too crowded after 7.
  14. He looked tough in Ft. Myers. He's a big time hitter. The between innings argument with Beckett was interesting. Beckett is an intense guy. I heard from some mMet fans that he was an emotional guy with a bit of a mean streak. I like that. Intimidation should always be a part of a power pitchers arsenal. Stern is really making a statement with the bat. It will be hard to send him down after he spends his 17 days with the ML squad. I think he will tear up AAA if he gets sent down. What's with Varitek's arm. He's made two throws today that looked awful-slow release and nothing on them. Seanez with a relatively clean outing for him. Has he had a single one-two-three inning this Spring.
  15. He's really handled Howard who is a pretty good hitter.
  16. Do you always need to be so nasty and sarcastic? Can you ever just disagree in a civil fashion? My point about Seanez is that his numbers at San Diego are are inflated and not reliable, because he pitched in the worst offensive division in baseball in an offensively inferior NL. I don't believe that he found something in his mid-30's. That just doesn't happen with a power pitcher. Plus, his AL stats are horrible. Hansen is 22 and has been successful at every level ball. He has yet to give up a run in ST. He has great poise and confidence. He deserves to be with the big team. There's no reason to let him waste his bullets in the minors. He's better right now than Seanez.
  17. Tony Graf on waivers hit a homer. Hopefully, he has a big day and we can get someone good for him.
  18. Every Red Sox fan has a story. Mine started in 1967, which is still the most exciting penant race that I ever witnessed.
  19. Don't stay at the Quality Inn right near the ballpark. It's a convenient short walk to the stadium, but my son and I got bitten by bedbugs.
  20. I would get rid of Seanez or Riske, preferably Seanez, but not both. He has shown a total inability to throw strikes. Plus, he was a bomb when he was with the Sox the last time. I don't care about his numbers in the inferior NL in the worst offensive division in baseball. This guy did not find himself at age 36/37. We would be deluding ourselves if we were to believe that. He stinks. Cut him loose. Riske has shown some ability to get lefties out in the AL, so keep him for now. Bring Hansen or Del Carmen north. I give Hansen the edge as he has shown better command.
  21. The Road Trip show is just plain boring.
  22. I was born in Brooklyn and currently live on L.I.
  23. Foulke threw strikes today. 3 up 3 down. Two fly out (one was hit hard) and a pop up. He is using his legs more in his delivery than last year.
  24. I heard that his agent can't locate him, which is a little concerning.
