  1. Ricky Riccardo doesn't look like much of a pickup for the Blue Jays. You aren't too good if Nick Greene can take you to the wall.
  2. If they want to use him as bait, they should be showcasing him.
  3. In 1972, Yaz did not hit his first homer until July 2nd. His average was around .300 at the time. During the pennant run in September, he hit 7 or 8 homers. These power outages can happen. Yaz went on to play another 11 years, and he was an All Star several times.
  4. For years it has bothered me when announcers would comment about Joe Torre that he was such a settling influence on the bench, how he didn't panic, how you can't tell by looking at him if his team is up by 10 or down by 10. I always felt that was media hype and BS. Sure it was easy for him to remain even-keeled. His teams were always stacked and he was always in first place. During the Blue Jays' 3rd inning today, they showed a picture of the Yankee bench. Torre was looking so dejected with is hat on the back of his head. I really didn't need to know the score to know that the Yankees were losing badly. He looked like he had a big steaming pile of s*** under his nose. Oh wait... he did. Sidney Ponson. Between the blubbering crying jags and his dejected demeanor on the bench the last couple of years, I really don't think Torre is such a calming influence.
  5. This could be a 5 hour game with 30 runs scored. Edit: The YES announcers are wondering whether Ponson's visa problems had any effect on his performance. They really reach for excuses.
  6. Al Leiter always seems to be making excuses for Yankee players. In the case of Ponson, there are no excuses. He's fat and he sucks. Edit: and he's gone after 2 1/3 innings. Go hit the buffet, Sidney.
  7. I am so glad the Yankees are giving Sidney a chance. BTW: The Yankee pitchers have lucked out that they are facing a team with no Rios and no Hillenbrand. Edit: What is Bubba waiting for on that ball hit by Overbay? It was up there for a long time.
  8. He must like Kapler's fielding in the spaceous ballpark.
  9. ARod strikes out again with 2nd and 3rd and less than two outs.
  10. He'd be a huge defensive downgrade.
  11. As badly as Nixon is going, he is still hitting .299 with a .400 on-base percentage which is higher than everyone except for Manny. Even with his power outage, his OPS is higher than Varitek, Crisp and Loretta. It is not much lower than Youk's, Pena's and Lowell's. I don't think we can kill him yet for his offensive production, Trot is a superior rightfielder who plays the most difficult RF in the AL.
  12. Varirek is swinging the bat a little better lately, so there's no reason to give Belli more PT.
  13. Snyder could probably fill one of the vacant spots until Wakefield and Wells come back. The other spot is a real problem. Hopefully, a productive Wells can reclaim his spot in two weeks.
  14. If it's an AL only league, he might be a good option. If it is a combined AL-NL league, there might be better options.
  15. It also depends what type of league you are in. I'm in a league where pitchers get points only for wins, innings, and saves. They get negative points for hits and walks. They also contribute to a team ERA. If you are in a league that counts strikeouts, he would be a plus. If WHIp counts, his whip is not great.
  16. I love when Tina Cervasio asks questions like: "What about those balls?";)
  17. Thanks for the help by swinging early, Will B. Edit: Same for Beltre.
  18. 13 pitch at bat by Ichiro.
  19. Why is he throwing Timlin two days in a row, They have a 5-run lead.
  20. With the way the Sox pitchers are going down, maybe we will see him this year.
  21. There are plenty of posters around your age. Unfortunately, some of them are Yankee fans.
  22. Hansen 30 pitches and MDC coming up on 30. These guys really have to work when the 4th and 5th starters pitch. Edit: I never thought I would post this, but I really hope Snyder is okay.
  23. My niece lives in Ft. Lauderdale and she has season tickets. Being the great kid she is, she let her crazy Red Sox fan uncle use them for the weekend. The crowd on Friday must have been 80% Red Sox fans.
  24. In 39 years of watching the Red Sox, I have never seen a left side of the infield that has come close to these guys. Their offense has been a pleasant surprise too.
  25. It's better than I thought. Although with his stuff, I keep expecting him to come in and blow away the side.
