  1. Scaffolds, your posts last night were very uncharacteristic for you. What's up?
  2. I really hope that Theo and co. are not trying to pull off some exotic multi-team deal, while these guys are getting picked off one at a time.
  3. Relief pitching was expensive last year and the Sox sat on the sidelines except for third tier guys like ZTaveras and Seanez and they paid for it during the season.
  4. Drew is probably the only available oF that can play RF in fenway as well as Nixon.
  5. They are convinced that closing is not the best thing for Papelbon's arm. He's on track to start. Theo knows that he will have to get a closer.
  6. He is a special fielder-- top shelf.
  7. Looks like Lugo just got more negotiating leverage.
  8. Gonzo is officially gone. Three years $14 million from the Reds per WEEI.
  9. Wake can't be a full time closer.
  10. I would be very interesting, but how would a 45 year old body react to such a change after 30 years of conditioning as a starter?
  11. Damon is a more valuable commodity than Drew. As a leadoff hitter with good speed, he's a basestealing threat and a catalyst for the offense. He sees a lot of pitches which helps wear down the opposing pitcher and he hits into very few DPs which keeps rallies alive. He has great first to third and second to home speed and he is till a very capable basestealer. There are few leadoff hitters that bring to the table everything that Damon brings. Drew is not a lead off hitter and as a middle of the lineup hitter he is not even in the top echelon. He a second tier middle of the lineup hitter. Combine that with the fact that he has never played more than 146 games in a season, and I would much rather have Damon for the same money.
  12. The Mets average age would be 50 if it wasn't for Wright and Reyes
  13. The team was in a tailspin.
  14. He claimed my negativity ran him off the boards in July or August, but he came back. He'll be back rooting the Sox on, but he can never again tell me to root for the Yankees after renouncing his citizenship in the Nation.
  15. So, you will only root for the Red Sox if they have a different philosophy from the Yankees? Do you realize that the different philosophy resulted in the Red Sox always being second best? It seems to me that the FO has not really changed philosophy at all. When they had the opportunity, they bought the last two pieces of the 2004 puzzle-- Foulke and Schilling (Schilling was a trade but it was essentially a negotiation with Schilling). The got a young top of the rotation guy Beckett last year and they locked him up long-term. This year they went after a young guy who should be a quality pitcher for years to come. The Fo has the $, so why shouldn't they use it to improve the team. It's better than having them charge the ungodly prices that they charge and pocketing it all as profit while the team falls to third place again.
  16. The biggest question is his health. Hopefully, the training staff has developed a program for him that will keep the shoulder joint strong and tight. While I don't think he will be anywhere close to as dominating as he was as a closer, I think his two pitches --- the fastball and the split are good enough to allow him some success. He started to use a breaking pitch more often as the season went on. That should improve as time goes on. How many pitches does Wang have. I don't recall him having a big repretoire of pitches, but the devastating sinker and his control have allowed him to be very successful.
  17. Of course Yankee fans are sick of him. They have been saying novenas for the past 3 off-seasons that he gets traded.
  18. Thanks Billy Mueller. You played the game the right way, and provided Red Sox fans with some of the most thrilling moments in Red Sox history.
  19. I don't get it. You were constantly questioning my Red Sox fandom, and now you are giving them up. HUh.
  20. Plus if they sign someone for three years, they don't have to keep him for 3 year. he could always be traded one or two years in to the contract.
  21. I was being uncharacteristically kind.
  22. What Shortstops are available other than Lugo?
