  1. This is nothing but conjecture. A pitcher with a history of shoulder problems can lose velocity over night. You have n't got the foggiest idea of how long he'll be able to maintain his current velocity.
  2. Are you talking about Beckett? He hasn't logged alot of innings. Last year is the first year he logged 200 innings. Injury prone? What blisters? Is that a bad injury history that he throws so hard he gets blisters. I am very happy with the Beckett deal. He will a mainstay in the rotation for years. I saw Sanchez pitch once in person. Ortiz and Manny hit about 1,300 feet of homers off him. He got beat like a pinata.
  3. It was only due to the egocentricity of the Yankee fans including those in the press that exalted the Tigers going into the WS. They felt that they were going to stomp the Cards, because they so thoroughly dominated the great Yankees. The fact is that the Tigers weren't that good, and they were exposed in the WS. An experienced and talented playoff team that got its veterans back and healthy for the post-season beat an inexperienced Tiger teams with some nice young arms and several flaws. It wasn't a major upset. The Tigers beating the Yankees in 4 games and shutting down their offense was a huge upset. It was another collective choke job by the Yankees.
  4. Hey welcome to TalkSox. Bashing Yankee fans is our pleasure. Feel free to join in.

  6. [quote=NateGrey;208151 A Ramirez trade may also have an enormous impact on No. 3 hitter David Ortiz. "That guy will draw about 200 walks next year without Manny hitting behind him," said one scout. "I don't care who it is who bats fourth instead of Manny -- J.D. Drew, or Wily Mo Pena, whoever -- he won't be as dangerous as Manny was, because Manny can hit good pitching." This says it all. Wily Mo is helpless against good pitching. Ortiz will be able to go on road trips without any bats, because he will not get the chance to swing them.
  7. one more in the last six years.
  8. I like the guy, but he is at a cross-roads in 2007. Another 3rd place finish and he's history, but we'll still like him.
  9. ...and if he plays 115 games?
  10. But is the difference worth an additional $10 million in 2007 and a commitment for $60-70 million over the next 5 years. I'm not a big budget conscious guy, but is 118 games from Drew per year worth the difference in performance?
  11. Save us $10 million this year and keeps us from committing to $60-75 million. If Trot can play 120 games platooning with WMP how much worse will his stats be compared to Drew who averages 118 games?
  12. He only throws one type of fastball?
  13. Doesn't Verlander have a hellacious curve ball when he is going good?
  14. He's had streaks where he was very good' date=' but he has not been a shut down closer for most of his career. He had a 4.19 ERA in 2003 before Florida acquired him and he had a 6 ERA in the WS. I am not advocating closer by committee. My point is that the closer doesn't need to be Papelbon or Rivera quality. In the post season, ofeten times a guy steps up from nowhere, and those seem to be the teams that win.
  15. WMP could stay as a 4th OF. With an injury prone Drew and an aging Manny, he'll probably get 350-400 ABs.
  16. Yuk that would suck, but it wouldn't surprise me either.
  17. I forgotabout Percival. Urbina was hardly lights out with a 6 ERA in the WS, and Looper... well ask Met fans about him. It might have been lousy luck that Isringhausen and Hermanson got injured, but the point is that the Sox don't need a shut down closer on April 1. They need a closer, but they don't need a Papelbon type closer from day 1. Recent history has proved that.
