  1. Do it. By time Bucholz gets here, Cordero will have 90 or 100 Red Sox saves under his belt. Hansen is falling from major league prospect status every time he takes the hill for the Red Sox. It's only a matter of time before he has no value on the trading market.
  2. He's putting pressure on Seibu with this maneuvre, which is where his only leverage is. The article quotes him as saying that no party can be selfish if this is to work. He's called it a three-way deal. No one can accuse the Red Sox of having been selfish since they ponied up $51 million and at a minimum are prepared to go another $40 million on the contract. He's turning up the heat on Seibu and accusing them of being selfish. They have the most to lose.
  3. Mo and Bernie-- the two keys to the last championship teams. Bernie has been extremely underrated, but in his pirme he was more important to this team than Jeter. One of the big reasons thaey have not returned to championship form is Bernie's decline. When Mo finally goes, clueless Joe will revert to 4th place managerial style.
  4. He'll be signed by the deadline. Everyone loses if he doesn't . No one has any real leverage, so the signing will be a FMV signing. Since he has never pitched in the majors, IMO his FMV will top out at about 5years/$60 million.
  5. No the knee had been hurting him from early on in the season, but he thought that he could play through it.
  6. Tek is a much better RH hitter than lefthanded. Yankee fans that come here just don't know these finer points, but argue as if they are authorities.
  7. The hit king has been banned from the game for life. The hit king before him was reputed to be a murderer. The game surviived. I hate Bonds, but it is becoming quite evident that alot of players were enhancing in that era.
  8. His good name in Japan is worth money. It's ashame that your mind can't make that logical connection.
  9. ...and we've never seen another hitter as good as Ted Williams and it has been more than 40 years since he left the game. Rollie Fingers? In the same sentence as Ted Williams? Blasphemy.
  10. Reported? Was it verified? No, it was pure speculation. Talks have progressed for mor than three weeks. I am sure that at this point both sides have moved from their initial positions, so why would you bring up an unverified out of date offer. It is completely irrelevant. Also you didn't refer to it as a reported offer that if true would be ********. You just concluded that the Red Sox have a ******** offer on the table. That's ********.
  11. Keep telling yourself that.
  12. The title of this thread is really misleading. It's really a two-year deal for a pitcher with a bad elbow. Why would Pettitte walk away from $16 million in 2008. He'd have to be the biggest fool in the world.
  13. The league had figuer out Melky by the end of the year. The Yankees should move him while his value is high. The same can be said for Youklis.
  14. The Cardinal's bullpen was far from solid. When Isringhausen went down, that bullpen was downright scary. Wht is important is that a couple of the guys in the pen get hot down the stretch and into the post-season like the 2003 Red Sox. That pen was a fright until the end of the season when Williamson, Timlin and Embree went on a tear. EDIT: The Yanke pen has been unable to go on a post-season tear in recent years because Clueless Joe burns them out by the end of August. By October their arms are noodles.
  15. Maybe he'll steal a few of Jeter's gloves to sell them on EBay.
  16. Are you privy to the negotiations? If not, how would you know that the Red Sox offer is ********. Your post is ********. The bottom line isn that the guy is going to sign. He 's going to make plenty of money. Seibu will make plenty of money. Boras will make plenty of money, and the baseball fans in Japan will be psyched to see him pitch in the US. Boras is not going to pull any ******** to sour the deal. In the end, he has no leverage with the Red Sox. He might have some with Seibu, so what. Let him squeeze Seibu for an endorsement contract or something. Believe it or not, the guy will still continue to make a ton of money on his name in Japan even after he plays in the US. He can't afford to have his good name sullied by Boras. It's about the money not the pride. Let go of your ridiculous contrarian ballbusting attitude for once so you can view a situation with some clear logic.
  17. You just blather on and on. Yes, it's December and we have no chance to win in 2007. I heard the the FO has cancelled today's ticket sales because the team has no shot. Give it up. You are just kidding yourself if you think the pen behind Mo is so solid. Farnsworthless can't be trusted with any pressure situation, and although Proctor pitched well last year, there's no guaranty of good performance this year. That's the thing with bullpens-- from one year to the next the performance of the same guys can fluctuate wildly.
  18. That's right. All thiese ridiculous scenarios of Matsuzaka buying himself out of his Seibu contract would have the effect of ruining his reputation in Japan where he is idolized. If Boras accomplished that, Japanese playyers would never use him. Boras knows this and is not going to cut himself off from a whole country.
