None of this even remotely addresses the question of whether Clemens is a better pitcher than our current #5 and his potential replacements.Getting Clemens is no longer an option. He's on the Yankees, so why are you discussing whether there is room for him in our rotation? I thought we were making progress. I am glad that you laugh when I compare Clemens to minor leaguers like Bucholz. I laugh when people write that minor leaguers like Bucholz are better than Clemens.

If you'd rather have Tavarez in a matchup between Clemens and Tavarez, I'll take Clemens, but remember their wallets don't figure into the outcome.

Okay, now we are getting somewhere. So, are you saying that regardless of price Clemens is not better than Hansack, gabbard, Tavarez, Lester or Bucholz? If so, you are entitle to your opinion, but i disagree.

This banal response is non responsive. Why would our owners offer him anything if we had better pitchers in the organization to take the 5th slot? Stupidity? Sentimentality? What?

If Clemens is not a better ML pitcher than those other guys, why would our owners offer him $12 million to start pitching in July? I guess they are just stupid.

...and even the diminished Clemens is better than Tavarez, Hansack, Gabbard, Lester, and Bucholz... as of today just to be clear so you don't bother to post about the latter two's potential futures. If they were better than Clemens, they'd be in the majors.

First of all, I don't know if anyone would be happier than me if that whore bombs out and finishes with a 6+ ERA. I'd be chuckling all through the winter, but I'll bet you it doesn't happen.

I never attempted to justify the Yankees signing. Here's my statement. "Clemens is a better pitcher today than Tavarez, Gabbard, Hansack, Lester and Bucholz." Don't read anything else into it. I am not justifying any one signing anyone. I am not comparing values or making budget decisions. I am just telling you who is the better major leaguer today. Try to follow this simple concept.

If you bet on games you would care who won, not who was the better relevative value. BTW the whole point of the game is about winning in case you forgot.

But it is valid to declare a 33 year old converted reliever as the being better than Clemens based on 4 starts. Very convincing. A team's budget has no bearing when comparing individual performance. When the Yankees play the Royals, do they spot them any runs to account for the diffrence in payrolls. Clemens is a better pitcher than the other three. Yes, he makes a lot more money, but that's because he is better.

It's silly to think that a guy that has never thrown a major league pitch here or in Japan is better than Clemens is today.

I have said nothing about money. I said that Clemens is better than the guys we have in the 5 slot and in the minors as of today. You people are dense. If those guys were better, they'd be in the majors.
