  1. Getting Kevin Millar for the stretch run wouldn't be a bad idea. He's got some HR pop. He's a RH hitter which the Sox are short on, and he could spell a banged up Youkilis.
  2. Colon struck out 3 and gave up no runs in 3 innings today for Pawtuckett. Two more outings and he should be ready. His arm should be nice and fresh for the stretch run. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2008_08_10_chraaa_pawaaa_1
  3. I totally agree. When you start trotting out garbage 1 or 2 days out of 5, you can spiral down in the standings pretty quickly. I'd move Masterson right back into the rotation. Forget Hansack. Forfeit the game and give the team the day off before you throw that guy. He stinks. I might throw Pauley once before they put him on a bus back to Pawtuckett, but nothing more than that. Colon should be ready in another week. That will take care of Bucholz's spot. He needs to go to the minors and dominate for the rest of the season.
  4. It was a panic move.
  5. Varitek making much better contact lately.
  6. That just made it out of the park. Whew!! I thought Quentin was going to rob him.
  7. Why couldn't Masterson be slotted in for the start. Watch his pitch count and try to get 4 innings out of him. After that go to the pen. Can they bring up Chris Smith or is it too soon? Why start the game with a bag of garbage like Hansack who will have you blown out of the game by the 3 rd inning. If Masterson starts, it gives you a chance to jump on top, then you take it from there.
  8. He missed substantial time in 2006 and was DL 'd also in August or September with a broken rib.
  9. Hopefully, Colon will be up soon.
  10. It doesn't matter that he breaks down at 150 innings. The fact is that he has been breaking down in August in recent seasons. The Red Sox should hopefully be in penant races the next few seasons. Losing a starter in August puts the team in a bind. He's only useful if he can take the ball every fifth day the entire season. He can rest when the team gets to the playoffs.
  11. A knuckleballer that breaks down every year. He may be at the end of the line with the Red Sox. He was useful for the 5th slot to pitch .500 ball and eat innings, but he has broken down in each of the last 3 seasons.
  12. Greetings and salutations.
  13. Three homers and three outs from the Yankee pen. Not very good. Angels lead 4-3.
  14. Here are tonight's lineups: BoSox: RF-Drew 2B-Pedroia DH-Ortiz 1B-Youkilis 3B-Lowell LF-Bay SS-Lowrie CF Ellsbury C-Varitek SP-Matsuzaka ChiSox SS-Cabrera C-Pierzynski LF-Quentin RF-Dye DH-Thome 2B-Ramirez 1B-Swisher 3B-Uribe CF-Wise SP-Contreras Edit: Drew still hitting lead off , and Lowell still batting 5th.
  15. Giese is pitching well through 4 innings.
  16. http://www.nypost.com/seven/08092008/sports/yankees/mannys_revenge__eyes_bx__123658.htm I can see it happening. Was it 2005 when he gave the interview during a September series with the Yankees that he always had wanted to play for the Yankees? If he goes to the Yankees, I hope they sign him for 4 years/$100 million. Either Nady or Abreu would have to be cut loose. Where's JHB to tell us whether and to what extent Manny would be an improvement over either of them
  17. Ian Kennedy was pleased with his outing.
  18. Texiera drives in the 10th run. Bruney's sub-2 ERA has ballooned to over 3.
  19. Buney wild pitches home the 9th run.
  20. Journeyman Bruney comes in and gives up two hard hits-- a single to Rivera and a double to the heavy hitting Jeff mathis (.208). Angels 8 -5 with 2nd and 3rd and one out. Top of the order up
