    I read some of the comments in this thread before the 7th inning. That's about how I felt. I thought tht e whole offense needed to be chucked, but they battled him got his pitch count up and go the key hit when they needed it. I got really worried when Quentin made that catch to save the run. Once they got to the pen they opened it up. Beckett was phenomenal. He just refused to get beat. Big big win coupled with a flat flat Yankee loss.

    He's given up 1 earned run in 6 innings. Our studs Lester and Dice-K didn't fare that well against the Little League A's.

    Getting Kevin Millar for the stretch run wouldn't be a bad idea. He's got some HR pop. He's a RH hitter which the Sox are short on, and he could spell a banged up Youkilis.

    I totally agree. When you start trotting out garbage 1 or 2 days out of 5, you can spiral down in the standings pretty quickly. I'd move Masterson right back into the rotation. Forget Hansack. Forfeit the game and give the team the day off before you throw that guy. He stinks. I might throw Pauley once before they put him on a bus back to Pawtuckett, but nothing more than that. Colon should be ready in another week. That will take care of Bucholz's spot. He needs to go to the minors and dominate for the rest of the season.

    Why couldn't Masterson be slotted in for the start. Watch his pitch count and try to get 4 innings out of him. After that go to the pen. Can they bring up Chris Smith or is it too soon? Why start the game with a bag of garbage like Hansack who will have you blown out of the game by the 3 rd inning. If Masterson starts, it gives you a chance to jump on top, then you take it from there.

    He missed substantial time in 2006 and was DL 'd also in August or September with a broken rib.

    It doesn't matter that he breaks down at 150 innings. The fact is that he has been breaking down in August in recent seasons. The Red Sox should hopefully be in penant races the next few seasons. Losing a starter in August puts the team in a bind. He's only useful if he can take the ball every fifth day the entire season. He can rest when the team gets to the playoffs.

    A knuckleballer that breaks down every year. He may be at the end of the line with the Red Sox. He was useful for the 5th slot to pitch .500 ball and eat innings, but he has broken down in each of the last 3 seasons.
