  1. I don't think there is any reason not to believe that Boras did not make a proposal to the Red Sox. If John Henry refutes Boras' remark then I would believe him over the scumdog agent. From everything I have read, it seemed to me that the owners made an offer and tex made a counter-proposal. Neither of us know the specifics of either offer. Boras is not making them public, but neither has the FO. In business, when you are negotiating any deal, exclusive access means a lot. The FO had exclusive access, and IMO if they were good sales people they would have closed the deal. I have spent almost 25 years dealing with life insurance sales people. Life insurance is well known for being a product that is sold and not bought. Almost no one gets up in the morning and says, "I think I'll buy some life insurance." I've observed life insurance sales techniques, and if they can sell life insurance they can sell anything. There are times when we can blame the Yankees for blowing away the market, and that has happened, but in this case, the prevailing opinion is that the Yankees did not blow away the market. The prevailing opinion is that Tex just wanted to play for the Yankees. That's a cop out. I'll acknowledge that the Sox can't win a bidding war with the Yankees, but they should be able to compete when selling the Sox to a player. We can excuse being outbid, but people also seem to excuse them when $ isn't the issue. Abreu was and is a pretty good player. He has a high OBP and generates a lot of runs. He is an excellent base runner who steals a lot of bases. He also seems to be able to hit the monster at will. The Red Sox FO did make a lot of good moves after 2006, but that doesn't mean that the Yankees didn't eat their lunch in 2006. Abreu was the Yankee's number 3 hitter that season. The Sox could have used him in 2006. Subsequent success does not convert a bad move into a good move. FO's make good and bad moves. The bad moves are not part of some grand scheme to get to the good moves. The bad moves stand on their own.
  2. I prefer the posts of yours where you demonstrate your idiocy in a more succinct manner.
  3. Neither would I. If we needed a DH, I'd consider him, but not to play the OF.
  4. This is it? You would have been better off screaming into your pillow. What experience would you have in negotiations? You can't even convince people in the college administration office that you go to the school. Go grow up little boy before you try to teach me about anything.
  5. Good comeback. Based on that logic, since no one on this forum works for a major league FO, none of the opinions stated on this site would have any validity. I guess we should just shut down the site. You need to do better than that.:thumbdown. If you want to take a swipe at me, make an attempt that is not laughable, otherwise just take out your frustration at me by screaming into your pillow. Now, why don't you go study for accounting course so you can support yourself some day.
  6. This was Jeter's best fielding seasons in the last 5 years. He got to many more balls up the middle than he has in past seasons. I don't know if it was better positioning or the agility drill that he did in the off season, but the improvement was noticeable. I hope the prick starts to show his age next season.
  7. Other than Theo, Lucchino and the owners I am pretty sure that I make more money than the rest of the FO. I've seen the salaries of some of the other GM's around baseball, and I know I make more than some of them, so no thanks to the cut in pay. How much do you get paid to keep flunking accounting? My tax dollars are probably supporting you.
  8. You will always assume the FO made the right decision. To you they are infallible. No one is infallible. I look at the facts as we know them and the outcome. The FO had exclusive access to Tex at the time and they didn't get the job done. They have walked away from deals over a few million in the past. In 2006, they walked away from the table because Philly wouldn't agree to eat enough of Abreu's contract. Well, we know what happened. So, don't say that they wouldn't be stupid enough to walk away from a deal over a few million. They've done it before.
  9. This FO will never take in this dog... never.
  10. he's a bigger dog than Manny, and I just don't think he is as good as Manny.
  11. Regardless of Boras credibility issues, the Sox owners had him in a room and made him an offer. He countered and they left the room. That is not how a salesman closes. That's how he loses a sale.
  12. I look forward to the day he goes away. I can't stand watching us forfeit the games he pitches against the Yankees year in and year out.
  13. As I have said all along, Boras confirmed that the Sox owners had Tex in a room, and Tex made them an offer. The owners got up from the table and walked away. This is a mistake for they will be paying for years. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/11/boras_sox_could.html
  14. Miggy Cabrera is a pig. He's Manny without Manny's talent.
  15. :thumbdown This would stink
  16. If Theo thinks he can pull off a 3-way deal involving two huge young studs like Gonzalez and Felix, he's going to find himself in a big circle jerk getting neither of them, and if he's not careful and it drags on too long, he could miss out on Halladay, Lackey and Holliday.
  17. Sure the Sox can compete with the Yankees in the FA market. Maybe they can't get into a bidding war with them, but they can certainly compete with them in building a team from Free Agency. The Yanks are locked into an IF of Tex, Cano, Jeter and ARod. If a big name IF were to hit the market, I couldn't see the Yankees competing with us. There are always plenty of good OFers to go around. Look at the steal the Angels got with Abreu. The Yankees can only have one big name at each position. There are plenty of other players to go around. Edit: So stop whining. It is unseemly for you big guy.
  18. We were not #6 in revenue, which is what I was referreing to, not the payroll.
  19. The Red Sox are a top 5 franchise at worst. I think they are #2 as a money making entity. Who are we to complain when there are 25 teams that are worse off. This is like two rich guys arguing over who is richest. I remember Barbara Walters did separate interviews with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. She asked Hope if he was the richest man in Hollywood. He adamantly answered "no" and he identified Bing Crosby as the richest star in Hollywood. When Crosby was interviewed, he said that Hope had more money and that Fred MacMurray probably had the most of anyone in Hollywood. Who cares! We are in no position to cry poverty. It's a cop out.
  20. I have disdain for everything to do with the Yankees, but I'll never be caught whining about their finances. I root for a big market team that for decades tried to convince its fans that it was a small market team, but after 5+ years of sell outs at the highest ticket prices in baseball plus countless other new income streams and the current ownership can't sell that one with a straight face, nor do they try to their credit. Those of you who make the argument seem like a bunch of sour grapes whiners. You have no reason to whine. The FO didn't put out a good enough team to compete with the Yankees, and that was obvious before the teams started ST.
  21. It's got nothing to do with letting it go. It has to do with comparing the performance of the Yankee FO to the performance of ours. It has to do with evaluating a philosophy of not going after the the big FA and opting to go the trade route. IMO, getting a top player through a trade is more costly.
