  1. The "sicko" comment was an obvious joke. Go back and look at the context, then maybe you can get some perspective.
  2. Oh, I though the superior player scouting and development had something to do with it. Silly me. You need to stop whining. It really shows your petty sign. I hate it when the Yankees win, but it's just stupid to try to denigrate the accomplishment.
  3. Second in revenue and second in spending. I would say that is pretty competitive. There are 28 teams behind them, but the Red Sox owners cry poverty more than the other 28 combined. They should stop whining. If they lose the Division to the Yankees every season, it's not because of resources. They need to do a better job. Dice K, Lugo, Renteria, Penny, and Smoltz were all stupid moves and a wastes of money. They need to stop crying about their competitive disadvantage.
  4. I think this pretty much sums up where the Red Sox are after the Winter Meeetings. Can he (like Shaughnessy) be wrong too? Maybe all the writers that follow the Sox are wrong. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/20091211red_sox_stuck_in_a_corner_spending_big_on_free_agents_only_way_out/
  5. Met fans will abandon their team in protest.
  6. A waste of money. He is a bottom of the order singles hitting slow-footed first base man. There are so many better options. I hammered the Sox for bringing up that AA kid during a key part of the season, but I 'd rather pay him $600K to be the backup. At least he has a little pop.
  7. You are a sicko. May I suggest that you root for the Royals if losing doesn't make you unhappy and winning doesn't matter.
  8. It obviously not VMart's or Bay's fault, but they had both of them over the last 2 months of the season and the Yankees still outplayed them in those months.
  9. VMart was playing full time in the second half last season and we had Bay, and the Sox couldn't compete with the Yankees in the second half. I don't see that having him for the entire season will make much of a difference. Also, I don't see Beltre being an offensive upgrade over lowell.
  10. For one thing, Bay/Holliday and Beltre are not on the Sox yet. Even if they sign those guys, they will not have improved, and they were not as good as the Yankees last season.
  11. It's an option? No, it's just obnoxious.
  12. So, you are happy if the team is competitive? What does that mean? I want the Sox to be able to compete to win the Championship. Unless they improve, they will not be able to get by the Yankees. They are not competitive with the Yankees. Don't give me the post season is a crap shoot nonsense. It wasn't last season, and it will not be a crap shoot next season unless the Yankees have a plague hit their team. So, what is competitive for you... 500 ball... a Wild card spot? If that is managements goal, they are stringing along the paying fans like myself by being good enough to give us hope of a Championship when there really is very little chance. Do you invest your money to support the Sox? This is just a waste of bandwidth as are the majority of your posts.
  13. Really? I thought I was a closet Yankee fan. The goal is to win a Championship, and with the team the Yankees have, the road to the Championship will go through the Yankees. What's your goal... singing Sweet Caroline while we beat K.C.?
  14. ... and we just spend this summer at the beach, because they'll have no shot at beating the Yankees.
  15. Yep, for the 7th year in a row. It's a lot of fun.
  16. I am not a Shaughnessy fan but I agree that Theo and the FO are selling us a bill of goods. Many of the FO toadies and lackeys (not John) who apologize for the FO don't put their money where their mouths are. I spend thousands every year going to Sox games in Boston and Ft. Myers. The ticket prices have gone up. Money has come off their payroll, and we are being told to sit tight until 2012. Will we have enough kids who will become stars in 2012 to fill the SS position, take Drew's place (his contract will be finished and he'll be in his late 30's), and Ortiz who will be gone. Will the farm also yield a catcher, a LFer, and a couple of starters? I don't think so. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/12/10/fans_shouldnt_buy_red_sox_bridge/
