  1. Not for that elbow.:thumbdown
  2. Ortiz really isn't the problem. He will hit 25-30 HRs knock in around 100 runs with around a .900 OPS. He'll help anchor a very productive lineup. The problem is that Theo messed up this teams financial payroll so bad that we can't fill our other needs.
  3. Nah, that was the beginning of August and it was obvious with all our injuries that the 2006 team was going into a spiral. If you remember, they opened that 5 game series with a day night doubleheader and The Ulimate Loser Jason Johnson started game 1. I believe that he still has the worst career W-L record of any starting pitcher. The 2006 series was painful, but it essentially happened in the middle of the season. I don't think it would crack my top 5.
  4. Izzy is brutal. He cannot pitch back to back nights without blowing up.
  5. If they get budget conscious after last season, I think they'll be making a mistake. The stench from last year will carry over to 2012 unless they come out of the box strong in April.
  6. Can he sign elsewhere if he accepts arbitration?
  7. He has a good shot of getting $15 million for 2012. Unless he falls flat on his face or gets injured, he'll do better than $5 miilon for 2013.. Hell we pay Jenks more than that. There is no way 2/$20 million gets it done.
  8. I don't think Bailey's price will be that high. He is arbitration eligible and he is a TJ ticking time bomb. Getting him would be very risky.
  9. What do you think it would take to get Gio Gonzalez and Bailey from the A's?
  10. If Bard moves to the rotation, KRod is a possibility for closer. His still just 29 years old. He turns 30 in January. The problem is that he probably will not be much cheaper than Papelbon.
  11. That is some serious dough.
  12. Every one is entitled to their own opinion on this, but losing night after night for a month and feeling hopeless every night losing a 9 game lead was worse for me. The Buckner thing was like finding out that a loved one had died suddenly, but 2011 was like watching them die slowly. I literally had a headache for the whole month of September starting at around 5 pm every night until I went to bed.
  13. I love his stuff, but hate his elbow.
  14. It sounds like my next career.
  15. BTW I absolutely hate Luis Ayala. The guy sucks at any price more than the minimum and his role would have to be the 7th guy out of the pen.
  16. 1 million? Incentives?
  17. Ortiz will have to decide what gives him better leverage accepting or declining arb. If he accepts, he is Sox property for 2012 at probably $14 million or more. This would give him leverage in a 2 year deal if he wants a reduced rate of 2/20 or something like that. I believe he can agree to a deal with the team prior to the arb hearing and it can be a multi-year deal. If he declines arb, he can try to exert pressure using the offers in hand from other teams, but the Sox may not want him for the price, plus they get draft picks if he leaves. I think he has less leverage if he declines... much less.
  18. I'm not so sure Zumaya will be as cheap as you might hope. Is he worth the risk for $3 million or more?
  19. If he accepts arbitration, they could still do a 2 year deal... right? His decision to accept or decline the arb isn't relevant to whether they sign him to a multi year deal right?
  20. I like to call that approach dumpster diving, and you are right to be concerned, because it almost never works out well.
