  1. We need more than 1 piece IMO. As for the anxiety, he was 22 and it hasn't been a problem since then. Other players have had anxiety issues at some point and had good careers. JJ Hardy had some anxiety problems a few years ago I think.
  2. It's not impossible that Peavey gets a big deal, but I don't see 1 good year in the last 5 seasons justifying such a deal for a 31 year old guy. He's having a good year not great or dominant. As for Greinke, we'll have to see how he handles the LA market and the push for a playoff spot. If he can handle that in a big media market, I would not worry about an anxiety issue that he had at age 22.
  3. I have held this as a truism for many years. Too many "ifs" means you are not going to be very good. By the third "if" teams are toast in my mind.
  4. Greinke is slightly younger than Beckett was when he was extended and he has less miles on his arm. Lackey signed at age 31 and he had arm problems. I think Greinke would be a good acquisition. Peavey is 31 and this is the first year he has thrown more than 175 innings since 2008. I don't see him commanding large dollars or a long term commitment.
  5. I had a cynical thought this morning. That's not foreign to me. Chew on this. I am sure that it will make people's heads explode, but those of you who like to think ahead many moves may be thinking this way already. A few posters have felt strongly that JH and the ownership group have been positioning the team for a sale while the franchise is at its highest value. Before businesses divest of operations and business lines they usually implement cost cutting measures and slash expense liabilities. It makes the asset look much more attractive to buyers. Have the owners gutted the team of payroll in preparation of selling the team? Talk amongst yourselves.
  6. I'd prefer King Felix too, but we would have to gut our minors to get him. I am not sure that the FO is willing to do that. If they get King Felix, I would still add Greinke or Peavey. Our biggest need is pitching and 1 guy (even a stud like Hernandez) will not fill the need.
  7. That's what I thought you were going for so I read it closely and it said 2013. Thanks for the clarification.
  8. Here's what I am thinking of now for 2103: C-- Lavarnway 1B-- Gomez/Loney 2B-- Pedroia SS-- Iglesias 3B-- Middlebrooks LF-- Hart CF-- Ellsbury RF-- Ross DH-- Ortiz Bench: UT-- Ciriaco C-- Salty 1B --Gomez/Loney OF -- Pods Rotation: Greinke Peavey Buchholz Lester Doubront/LackeyDeLarosa (Let them fight it out-- the losers are depth) Bullpen Bailey Aceves Miller Tazawa TBA TBA I am not very big on handing full time jobs to minor leaguers, but I would plan on Iglesias and Gomez as starters. It's now or never for Igleisias. If he can't do it, we have Ciriaco in reserve. Gomez has hit very well at AAA and he has swung the bat pretty well in his limited appearances in the majors. The ball jumps off his bat. He seems to have good patience and potential. This reminds me of when Youk was handed the first base job as a rookie with JT Snow as his insurance policy. Youk won the job and JT retired. Loney will be the insurance policy.
  9. Why did Middlebrooks disappear off your radar?
  10. After pulling off this trade, he is clearly putting his stamp on this team. If the FO is letting him dismantle the team, they will let him rebuild it.
  11. I hope the injury to lester doesn't cause the trade to be canceled.
  12. The KC manager is intentionally walking Pedroia to lefty-lefty with Ortiz? Managers are a very stupid bunch.
  13. Me too. I can't take Jenny's voice.
  14. Ciriaco is money. He may lack some plate discipline, but he makes up for it by being a very good bad ball hitter.
  15. After the Heart Bypass operation, he finally gave up the cigarettes. He was a 4-5 pack a day smoker, and on off days he always ran 5 miles. I wonder if he smoked while he ran. He was in great cardiovascular shape in his playing days.
  16. Yaz is a very private guy. He wouldn't go to his own party.
  17. And Dick Williams saw all the great players of the 50's and 60's. He came up with the Brooklyn Dodgers, so he saw a lot of Mays. Then he came to the AL to see Mantle etc. The truly impressive part of Williams assessment of Yaz in 67 is that he said that consistently throughout his career and life long after they had their falling out and Williams got fired by the Sox. These were not two guys that were best friends after 67. I am no HOF manager or evaluator of talent, but in 45 years of watching baseball, I have never seen a player put a team on his back like Yaz did in 67. He was remarkable during the stretch drive. Remarkable doesn't do justice to his performance.
  18. I think they were too busy with the team funeral that has been ongoing since April.
  19. I agree. When teams turn to garbage, people find other things to do, but big shake up or a key trade or acquisition will rekindle much of the interest. I laugh at how but a couple of short seasons ago many fans thought that our FO was the envy of baseball. The early cracks in the foundation were already pretty noticeable. JH didn't wake up until the Crawford deal, which he correctly noted made the team to left handed. He should have stepped in, but he did not. The whole house has crumbled to the ground. The owners were not minding the store for too long. Now, the reputation of the organization is in tatters.
  20. The players ran the asylum this year. Not long after the Youkilis debacle in which Pedey cut Bobby's legs out and the FO slapped Bobby on the wrists, Aceves told Bobby to trust him. The castrated Valentine committed to him. It was a mistake. Who the hell needs a star closer!
  21. If this team was competitive not have to write a story like this. On the field, this team gives the press nothing to work with, hence the rumors and negative stories. The organization deserves all the negative press and black eyes that the media can dish out, but they should have had the discretion not to involve the Pesky funeral.
  22. Another black eye for the organization. The planning as usual was botched. All someone needed to do (probably the Traveling Secretary) was to go to the clubhouse and ask for a show of hands. Just more 2012 incompetence and dysfunction.
  23. Great memories, plus a lot of quality time with my Dad and friends. Makes me feel old sometimes. LOL!
  24. It was well known that Colon's doctor used HGH in his treatment regime. He stated that he didn't use it with Colon. It was very fishy. Everyone figured that he was cheating.
