  1. Turn out the Lights the Party's over.
  2. He has no idea where he is throwing the ball.
  3. He pitched well against the Yankees this season, but suck against everyone else.
  4. He's sabremetrically inclined? What do you mean?
  5. They took him off the table as an option by committing to him as a starter.
  6. BJ has too much dog in him. In Tampa, he has Longo to keep him in line. He's scared shitless of Longo. I don't think we have anyone here willing to get in his face. At the right price, I'd take him, but he ain't going to come cheap.
  7. Dan Duquette has built himself a nice team in Baltimore. With Duke and Showalter the O's are a resurgent franchise. Our owners cast Duke aside like an old shoe, but he could take our current GM and his predecessor to school.
  8. McCarthy was not going to be a solution for us. Every season he spends considerable time on the DL, and based on this one year I am not willing to concede that he has found consistency. We need 2 established reliable starters. This should be the #1 priority in the off season. They may have to spend more than they would like, but as I said earlier, they will have to pay a premium to get players after a season like this. If they wait for a bargain, they will come up empty and all of us will be left pinning our hopes on the likes of Morales, Doubront and Lackey to round out the staff after Buchholz and Lester, with several new buckets of s*** as depth options.
  9. A $15-20 million deal for 1 year? I don't see anyone offering him that. I think he will be happy to get a 3 year Josh Willingham-type deal, which by the way was the best signing of the last off season. The guy is putting up a great season in a pitcher's ballpark.
  10. I don't think we need to rush Ellsbury out of town. He is one of the few guys that we have left with any talent.
  11. We are so used to the AL East being a tough division, but that hasn't been the case this season. The AL West Division made the AL East their bitches this year.
  12. I like Shane. He can be a bit of a hot head, but he plays hard and smart. I am not sure that he is a 1 year sign. I could see the Giants going after him.
  13. Bard was not an option. They decided to multiply the late inning woes that would be caused be losing their best closer in team history by making the 8th inning guy a starter. Take a look at the stats. One of the biggest fall-offs by the 2012 team was the late inning pen. In late and close situations, our pen gave up the most runs in the league. They also had the worst OBP. In 2011 they ranked 3rd in both categories. So, the late inning pen was a major weakness.
  14. We would have to over pay Granderson to get him from the Yankees. We are a dysfunctional circus. Why would he come here?
  15. Have you been enjoying the garbage that we roll out as late inning relievers this year?
  16. Well, this is a glimpse of the team with all the guys that those fans wanted to see sent away. They called Youkilis a whiner, Beckett a cancer, Papelbon greedy, and Ortiz a prima dona. Well, this is what we look like without them. Maybe they shouldn't be so happy to send Papi packing.
  17. It is baffling. Maybe they are afraid of exposing him.:dunno:
  18. As for overpaying players, the FO is going to realize in the off season that after a total fiasco like this season, they will have to overpay top talent to get them to come to Boston. The whole Boston scene is toxic right now and players will want a premium to subject themselves to it. We moan and cry about not being able to spend with the Yankees, but the truth is that they will be able to sign guys for less than Boston will be willing to pay, The Yankees are a top shelf professional organization. Boston is a 3 ring circus right now.
  19. When Kimbrel and Chapman do it for 6 or 7 years get back to me. Mo was great, but he is done now. Papelbon maybe the steadiest and most reliable closer out there now that Mo has gone to the glue factory.
  20. Is anyone arguing that he is not over-paid?
  21. All of our current players are a good value. How do you like this team?
  22. I wonder what NESN ratings will look like in September.
  23. Ahead is another month of meaningless unwatchable regular season games followed by a month of post season games without the Red Sox. We have a couple of months before players file for free agency, so there is really nothing for us to discuss about the Sox until then. Other than Pedroia, there isn't a single player who creates any interest with the bat, We have 1 good starting pitcher--one. Lester has become a mediocre pitcher that grinds games out in a tortuous manner. The rest of the rotation is stocked with pigs. My goodness what a pile of s***. After creating such a prolonged period of fan apathy, good luck to the FO in recapturing the interest of the fans.
  24. I think the metrics that he developed decades ago that are useful are well-known, and we don't need to pay Bill James to use them. Where this team needs to devote resources is to scouting. I have little regard for the use of sabremetrics with regard to scouting or even with regard to minor league stats.
  25. There's no logical connection there. Winning championships doesn't mean that every move or decision was a good one.
