  1. What the hell are you talking about? I let last year go at the All Star break. I am looking forward, and I see no reason, none why a team with such payroll flexibility cannot return to playing respectable ball after last year's debacle.
  2. You are putting a bigger slam on Cherries than any of us. Calling him a stooge and a puppet is not exactly a compliment.
  3. So why are you up in my face. I am waiting too. Must you disagree with me when there is nothing to fight over? Edit: I don't remember pretending to know what is or isn't happening behind the scenes. I have already said that I don't have a clue to his plan.
  4. The Jays have sucked for quite a few years. They have a nice talented corps of players with Bautista, Encarnacion, and Lawrie. They decided that their future is now. At some point a franchise has to go for it and stop playing for the future. Stop with the entitled crap. I am not bashing the guy. I am waiting for him to do something. I am not defending or killing him yet. I am waiting. As I have been saying, I expect that there will be moves before December 1st. Right now, I would not say that his approach is patient or measured or conservative. We have no idea what the hell his plan is or how he will execute it. I am waiting like every other Sox fan. What the hell are you defending? Nothing has happened yet. Please cut the crap until something happens. Am I supposed to coo about his efforts to get a minor league batting instructor?
  5. Those teams have not had their worst season in 40 years, because their organizations are not run by bumbling idiots at every level. E1, I don't even know what point you are trying to make. The 2012 team is a disgrace. They have a very modest payroll with lots of flexibility. There is zero excuse for not getting this team back to respectability in 2013. None. Good players change teams every offseason thru trades and free agency. The 'who are these guys" lament rings hollow. Teams will make plenty of moves this offseason. There has already been 1 blockbuster trade. The question is whether the Red Sox will jump in and make some moves. Staying pat would not be conservative and it wouldn't be building towards anything. It would just be a continuation of futility. December 1st is Christmas at Fenway when tickets go on sale. I expect that we will see some moves to improve the team before then. If we don't, I will be surprised and concerned about 2013 and beyond.
  6. I agree with you. It doesn't matter to me if it is LL or Cherries who is calling the shots. I just want to start seeing some moves to get this franchise back to respectability and eventually to prominence. If people want to defend Cherries by calling him a puppet, fine, but I can't think of a bigger slam than being called a puppet.
  7. I am not expecting a great team in 2013, but I would expect a team in 2013 that is not embarrassingly bad like the 2012 team. With 2 wild card teams, if a team is not embarrassingly bad and it is somewhat competitive, they can make a run at a playoff spot. There is no reason why a team with the Red Sox resources cannot be respectable in 2013 while building for the future. The future doesn't have to be sacrificed to get back to respectability. The Jays didn't mortgage their future. They improved their team. I can't see fit to defend Cherries until he makes some moves that will help this team get back to respectability. He's not acting conservatively. He's has not taken any action that is helpful.
  8. It's good to see that Cherries is burning the midnight oil.
  9. I'm not drinking this KoolAid, and even the FO is not trying to sell us on this.
  10. Being a Red Sox fan for 46 years has taken a lot of patience, so don't tell me that I am not patient. Cherries has patience down. What we don't know is if he has any ability to build a team. As for saying that we had no help coming from the minors, I made that statement in 2010, not last year (2012). WMB did come out of nowhere and with or without him we would have finished in last place last year. Building a team takes more than waiting for minor leaguers to get promoted. Our minor league system is not very strong, so like it or not, Cherries is going to have to look outside the organization just to raise the level of play to respectable.
  11. No one knows if Cherington is doing a good job or a bad job. We are still waiting for him to do his job. We are still waiting for him to address the needs of this team. Then we can pass judgment. All we know now is that Toronto was the better team in 2012 and they just got better. There is no disputing that.
  12. Plenty of good pitchers change uniforms every year. There is no excuse not to get in on the action. The thought that matt Cain, Hamels etc would be available was preposterous. Good teams don't let pitcher like that walk. The only one that didn't get extended was Greinke.
  13. None of this matters. That horse is out of the barn. Toronto improved its team and we are still a bag of s***. Our guy has done nothing to address the team's biggest need since October 2011.
  14. Not if he can get us 2 other pitchers.
  15. s*** year -- maybe?
  16. I don't know what to expect from Cherington. His short tenure has been very undistinguished. Red Sox tickets usually go on sale during the first week of December with a Christmas at Fenway kickoff. They sell 4 game pax to get a big jump on the advanced sales. IMO, they are going to want to bring in a marquee type guy before then to create some excitement that will translate into ticket sales. I expect that a major move(s) will be made in the next week to 10 days. If they don't, I think that might portend of a slow off season on Yawkey Way.
  17. I'll be pissed if he signs with an the AL East team.
  18. I think the anxiety issue is overblown, and I have said that numerous times. It seems to be an issue that has been under control for several years. He continues to thrive after a couple of trades, pennant races, and he has played in a big market. Is he a special horse like CC? I don't think so, but he is a very nice arm. I'd love to get him for a contract like Gio Gonzalez got from the Nats. I would do that in a heart beat. I would not want Greinke if he is so cost prohibitive that we can't add a second pitcher, because the Sox need two pitchers, not one. I feel most strongly that two solid guys are needed. Will I be pissed when he signs elsewhere? Definitely, if he signs in the AL East.
  19. What is "all out"? Years? $?
  20. The track record producing good starting pitching has been thin.
  21. Are you arguing with yourself again?
  22. Middlebrooks and Bogaerts would be like the Jays giving up Lawrie and their top prospect. What the Jays gave up was far less. I'm not interested in rumors about why the deal fell thru. Maybe that was the Jays starting point, but I am pretty certain that it wasn't their bottom line. Cherries is going to get very skinny if every GM eats his lunch.
  23. Like he was spot on about Cano getting busted for PEDs? I don't doubt that someone in the Red Sox FO fed him the info. I question whether it was true. Teams lie about that stuff all the time. I don't believe it, because the Jays settled for much less for a bigger trade. No excuses for Cherries. He needs to get deals done. I'm not interested in why they fell thru.
  24. I don't buy those stories after the fact. The Jays didn't give up anything close to that haul.
  25. He is zeroing in on a first base coach. The skill set for a first base coach is very critical to a team's success. He needs to be able to hold batting gloves, various types of body armor like shin guards, elbow pads etc. while still being able to work a stop watch! This is a rare breed.
