  1. If we wound up getting both Crisp and Matos we would find ourselves in the same position as we did last season when we had four regular outfielders for three positions and it caused a lot of problems for us. It also led to Jay Paayton raising enough hell to get a trade out of Boston. If we trade for Matos, the deal for Crisp should be over. None of the four outfielders will accept a backup role and that could once again lead to dissension. The Red Sox had better be very careful about this.
  2. Maybe in four years we can have Egan behind the plate, Lowrie and Pedroia as our DP combo and Ellsbury in center. That could give one hell of an up the middle foursome of young talent.
  3. Graff should not be gone at all. The guy is versatile and can hit. Harris is a weak hitter and Gonzales is no better than Cora with the bat. In the meantime Pedroia should be switched back to shortstop in order to be ready to be called up around June when it become evident that Gonzales, like Renteria, cannot play in Boston because of the crowd's displeasure with his erratic fielding and weak hitting. Crisp will thrive in Boston, Gonzales will wilt. We must not get stuck with a long contract for this guy or we'll be stuck with him.
  4. Hey guys, we should never ever deal with the Reds. The organization has become a laughing stock to match the Dodgers, Brewers, Royals and D'Rays. They oversell the worth of their players and can never pull the trigger on a big trade for fear of looking like the boobs they are. When they are forced to finally trade one of their malcontents it is usually a fire sale where they get less than they would have had they traded the guy earlier. The Reds bear no resemblance to the once mighty Big Red Machine.
  5. City of Champs, I would drool at the thought of getting Grady Sizemore over Coco Crisp. He is the guy I covet for CF more than anyone in the Majors but Cleveland will not move him unless we throw in the kitchen sink. I think that is why the Red Sox never even brought up his name. They knew it was a non-starter.
  6. Hey guys, anybody hear anything else on the proposed Crisp trade? The Red Sox home page had nothing this morning. I just hope this doesn't just turn out to be smoke. It is high time we have our tentative team coming together. Spring training is just not that far away.
  7. The more I see James' projections the more I think he's full of crap. Shoppach with 17 Major League homers? The guy couldn't even get out of his own way in his minimal attempts at hitting in the Bigs last season. In fact, he probably ruined Boston's chances of trading him because his value kept going down with every fruitless at bat. If this Crisp trade goes through, and with the better pitching we will have, how on earth can we win less games than last year? Pure bs!!!! Try again James.
  8. Did you guys out there hear that we have just about completed a trade for Coco Crisp of the Guardians? The talk is Andy Marte and Guerellmo Mota for him. What's your opinion of this trade.
  9. 700 Hitter; a Griffey trade is a risk because of his injury prone body could break down at any time, but it would also block Jacoby Ellsbury's move into Centerfield for the Red Sox in one or two years. This guy is the real deal, a leadoff man who can hit, run ,steal bases, is an outstanding CF, and a classy young man. His progress must not be halted for an instant. As for Theo being back, tell me, this: Did we have to take two and a half months to make a circle that led right back to where we started from? All that time lost.
  10. 700 hitter, Harris will be a good utility player who can come off the bench to steal a base or take over for defensive purposes late in games where we are ahead. No one, however, should be deluded into thinking that he is going to be our centerfielder. He has no power, is a weak hitter and the fans seeing him out there taking Johnny Damon's place would eat him alive. Let the guy do what I think he was brought over to do, steal some bases, bunt a runner over and serve as a late inning replacement.
  11. If we finally get a CF, I think it will be Michaels as well. All signs point to him because he is tradeable, is up for arbitration and wants to play regularly. In two or three years when Ellsbury is ready to take over CF and maybe Moss in left, Michaels could become a fourth outfielder off the bench. He did very well in that capacity for the Phillies and now, at least, deserves a chance to be a regular for a couple of seasons. He could just be the ticket for us.
  12. E, I think you hit the nail on the head. Those other teams are trying to hold us up and if we have to go with Cora at short and Stern in center that could hold us for a year since our pitching and defense will be much stronger than last year, and we should have more power in the lineup as well if Lowell returns to form and Trot can stay healthy for a full season. The other teams think they have us over a barrel but they really don't and in the end they will be the ones who will be muddled in the lower depths of their respective leagues.
  13. Manny, I have real misgivings about losing two of our pitchers. If an injury hits one of our starters, and need I say more about last year, we could be forced to force feed a young guy into the rotation who may not be ready. Don't be so anxious to get rid of Clement. This guy pitched some great ball for the first part of last year and he is capable of really coming into his own. He is still young and has great stuff.
  14. Do any of you guys out there get the impression that we may have just rounded out our roster right now and will be giving the young players a chance to make the team in Spring Training. I cannot fathom why it has taken so long for the front office to pull the trigger on a trade for a CF and to trade Wells, who has demanded a trade. Someone sleeping in the office?
  15. We're all bored to tears with the inaction my friend. Taverez was a good pickup for us. The guy is fiery and hates to lose. He also has good stuff and will become a fan favorite in Boston. Unless I am very wrong he is made for the Red Sox
  16. Red Sox Rooter, been off this board for awhile. Glad to be back on. Don't you worry about Mark Loretta. This is guy is the real deal; a good hitter, sharp in the field, works the count and is a very intelligent ballplayer. Besides he's all class. I know him personally. After this season we are going to want him to stay for awhile. Have a good day.
  17. Loretta played shortstop all his life before being switched to second a few years ago. I know the guy personally and he is a very gifted athlete. He can do the job at short for a year until Pedroia is ready (and he should be put back there this year in AAA) With Mark and Graff as our DP combo we will have players who can make the routine play, can turn the double play, and most important since we lost Damon, have the ability to hit 300 or better.
  18. Manny, there is talk that the Sox are talking trade with Ramirez again. How stupid can our front office be? We need Manny in the lineup; we don't need to create another hole and give Ortiz less protection in the batting order. The last two weeks have been a strain on all of us and I only hope they brace themselves and start getting the players we need to compete next season. Right now, we are a quart or two short.
  19. I live in Arcadia, California---Dodger country, but none of that for me. I have always been fascinated with the Red Sox but never rooted for them until I went to Fenway for the second time in August of 2000 on a baseball tour. I GOT COMPLETELY HOOKED!!!!. I know wear my Red Sox watch, carry my Red Sox wallet, wear Red Sox apparel, and act like a school kid instead of the teacher I was for 35 years. Yes, I also have the World Series DVD set of the Red Sox championship last year. Well, almost. I had all 12 but got rid of the first three. Who the hell wants to watch those first three games of the ALCS anyway? I am happy to be on board and look forward to many hours of friendly chatting with the best fans in the world.
  20. Hey YankeesSuck, glad to finally be on board, but I can tell you that I am getting a little fed up with all this time elapsing and still no GM. I mean the winter meetings are about to be held and we need someone in charge so we can get down to the business at hand of signing some of our free agents and going after the players we need to compete next season. Hopefully, we'll get something done by next week.
