  1. Jsing, I now forgive you for your nasty post to me. Right on buddy, we DO NOT TRADE Dustin Pedroia for Meche, or for anyone unless it is a real front line pitcher. I see Pedroia as a future star with the Red Sox, a solid hitter, good fielder, speedy baserunner, and a heart of steel. We do not trade a player like that.
  2. Red Sox Rules. it is quite possible Roger might just decide enough is enough and hang them up once and for all. If he does that your worry will be over; he won't be playing. What if he decides to pitch one more time around? Clemens, whether we like it or not, is one helluva physical speciman. He works arduously at his craft and doesn't spare himself in his workouts getting ready for a season and he might be just the pitcher to make the difference in the pennant race. OK, you don't was him on our team, but if you believe we can get to the World Series with what he have now I find that a littl questionable. We don't have a fifth starter worthy of its name, our fourth starter had another meltdown yesterday, and Wakefield is just rounding into form. We could send Papelbon into the rotation and he would be very good there in my opinion, but would you trust Foulke to be the closer the way he's pitched the last year and a half? Fact is we don't sign Roger we have to get another pitcher or two (starter and reliever) from somewhere because most of us know that Beckett and Schilling cannot carry the load by themselves.
  3. Beckett, you called it perfectly in my opinion. We need a solid starter who can be plugged into the fourth slot in the rotation, a left reliever who can get tough lefthanded batters out, and a very good middle reliever so we don't have to depend on Seanez and Taverez any more than we have to. Especially now with Timlin out a good reliever is critical to our team, but I don't really know who is out there right now we can trade for. Maybe by the trading deadline something may open up.
  4. This stuff about buying championships does confuse me a little because I think all teams try to buy their way to a title. Some just do it better than others. Spending money for ballplayers who can put you over the top is the name of the game. We did in 2004 when he "bought" Foulke to close for us and made that "trade" with Arizona for Schilling that was nothing more than highway robbery. You can also buy a title by trading some of your prospects for established players. Yes, we Red Sox fans get upset sometimes that George Steinbrenner can spend money like water, but, face it, it how wise you spend the money and how careful you are in getting the right mix of players that can spell success or not. The Yankees haven't won since 2000, and in the interum the Angels, Marlins, D.Backs, White Sox and us have gotten the big prize. To me that means these teams spent wisely, and not necessarily outspend anyone. This Roger Clemens watch will be determined mostly by money but there will be more involved. Roger wants to win a championship in his last year and I just think he will pick the team that offers him the best chance of getting it. I hope it is the Red Sox but it could be some other club. My friends, I would really like your opinions on this because I think one or two people here have put too much emphasis on just money alone.
  5. Jsing, I think that was uncalled for. Yes, I got my Brandon's mixed up. My mistake, but you don't have to infer that I don't know what I'm talking about concerning the Red Sox' farm system. I know all about Pedroia, Lester, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Hansen, Soto and the rest of the crowd. I made an honest mistake and you could have showed a little more class in setting me straight. I'm a little disappointed in you for that.
  6. Jsing, Brandon Lyon is no longer a stiff. He is 8-0 with a lights out ERA. I do get your point at the time, though. As for Roger, we have really run this into the ground, but I hear he is to make a decision within two weeks, so he says. We will all find out then whether he wants to end his career where he started it. An effective RC in a Boston Red Sox uniform puts us in the World Series. I really believe that.
  7. Glad to see so many of us are on the same page with Seanez. The guy cannot pitch in Boston; he couldn't do the job in 2002 and he can't now. Theo has to learn that once a player fails in Boston and goes elsewhere it is NOT a good idea to bring him back. Seanez has to go to a quiet NL city where expectations aren't too high and he can relax and pitch. He cannot do that here because expectations are through the roof, and like many of you I cringe when he goes into the game. He pitches better when we are behind than when we are ahead. He has to go as soon as he is eligible to you, though Crespo did make one very good point. Mirabelli was lazy as sin with that missed passed ball on strike three. There was no excuse for him missing that ball except a lack of concentration. Then, again, having the arduous task of catching a pitcher who can't find the plate and is a disaster waiting to happen, I guess he can even be excused for that.
  8. Crespo, in other words, you are telling me not to get too optimistic about our chances tomorrow, right? Meltdown Matty!!! What a pisspoor waste of talent. I used to be one of his biggest defenders here and on other boards. No more. The guy is just gutless, pure and simple
  9. Hey guys, instead of printing our lineup maybe should list who might be coming in from the bullpen to try and blow a game for us. You see what happened today? Can one of Tito's supporters explain to me why he keep using those two bums and not give Riske a chance to pitch, or Delcarmen, who goes up and down like an elevator, or Van Buren? Why are they even on the team is Francona isn't going to give them a chance to pitch. Fact is, Seanez and Taverez are doing a crappy job and right now anything would be an improvement.
  10. It should be Willie Harris who sucks to high heaven but it will probably be Van Buren.
  11. Malzone, shame on you. You insulted this old Brooklyn Dodgers fan with that thing about the Yankees losing only two World Series' between 1955-1964. They lost twice alright but not in 1958. The came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Yankees in that one, which happened to be the miserable year of my life. They lost that second WS to Brooklyn in 1955. As far as Malzone and the ROTY I can now be forgiven for not knowing he didn't win it because his numbers were so much better than Tony's that I thought it a given that he did win that award.
  12. Malzone, goofed on the ROTY. Malzone should have gotten, though. He drove in 103 runs for Pete's sake. I think Kubek hit around 297 but Malzone had many more ribbies than Tony did, and what is amazing about those hundred plus RBI's is that he did it with only 15 homers.
  13. Crunchman, it will be more pleasurable for you to read of the Yankees misery than it will be for me. Not that I will enjoy it less that the Yankees lost and we won, but the way I looked at the games before they were played. I was moaning all to hell that with Kazmir pitched for the Rays and the portly Wells for us we would be facing almost certain defeat. Good thing I didn't bet my house the way it turned out. Not content enough to look like just a half-ass jackass I said the Yankees were even a bigger certainty to win over a KC team that had lost 13 straight and hadn't won in YS since 2002. Talk about coming up empty. So you read that stuff and enjoy it for both of us as I remember this is baseball and anything can happen, and if you go off the deep end you might wind up looking like a moron. Still, somehow I do feel a lot better this morning. Enjoy your reading.
  14. They told me I could not post again for a minute; then triple posted me making me look like a fool. Sorry guys, it won;t happen again. From now on I pay no attention to that remark and just delete the message and retype it later.
  15. Crunch, you da man, you da man. Sorry to say you had the confidence and had it pegged for tonight and I just about wrote it off. That's baseball, though, and I should have known better. I did say on another board that we have some new players this year who should not be intimidated by Kazmir, and Lowell sure took him to the woodshed while Pena, Loretta and Youk all got hits. It happened the way you called it, and whether is was dumb luck or good karma or good vibes, or what, you called it. I salute you. Have the same vibes the next series with the Yankees, ok? Have a great weekend my friend.
  16. You have followed the Red Sox for 50 years? Wow!!!! Then I will take your admonition like a good sport. I mean you have seen just about all of it in that time and I can see why you give Francona some real credit. I always use the term "field general" in baseball; one of the few who do. Hey maybe this will make you feel better and make me an ally in all of this. In '56 the year you became a Red Sox fan they sent Malzone down for the third time and some said he was ruined. Plus he was 26 years old. However, in 1957 he came up to stay at 27 (Youkalis' age) and he went 292-15-103. Believe it or not, I memorized that from years ago; it is not from some book I have with me now. Know why? Back in 1957 they had an award Italian Ballplayer of the Year and they gave it to Brooklyn's Gino Cimoli which pleased me because I was a Brooklyn fan (for the last time it turned out) Cimoli hit 293-10-57, certainly not in Malzone's class. Now as I look back at it Frank got screwed but he was Rookie of the Year in the AL, with the only problem he should have been at #B as early as 1955. Grady Hatton and Ted Lepcio were dogs.

  21. I think Capeman is right on this thread. We have worn it down to the nub and, frankly, I'll believe Clemens is coming to Boston when I see the signed contract in the papers. I don't know of any topic we've run into the ground like this one. Time to call a time out on this and move on to things we know something about. Maybe in a week or two we can revive this but, quite frankly, I've had all the Clemens talk I can handle for awhile.
  22. Crespo, I never trust the Yankees to stay pat and stay the course. They have shown time and again that they will open their checkbook to get what they want. If they don't have the prospects they will pay cash, and there are a lot of half-ass teams that would take the cash and pocket it because of the shitpile organizations they are. We have a better farm system than the Yankees and that means from top to bottom. If such a pitcher as Schmidt would become available we have to pitch in there and do everything we can to get such a guy and keep him out of the hands of the Yankees because that man could make the difference. Same with other players. There will most definately be a salary dump come July or August and we aren't exactly a bunch of organ grinders with a tin cup. We have money and if we spend it wisely and make good trades we can get our share of what talent becomes available.
  23. Crunchy, in other words I should be ready to throw in the towel to tonight's game because it seems to me the opportunities are almost nil. Kazmir has owned us lock stock and barrel and Wells hasn't pitched since the third home game which I attended and before that his only spring training game which I attended. Seven runs in the ST game to Tampa Bay, and a rout by the Jays on April 13. Is there any reason to believe that can get some good luck out of that scenario?
  24. Alvarez reminds me too much of DiNardo; a junk ball lefthander who almost throws sidearm---a one plane pitcher who will get eaten up in the Majors. I only wish Lester would get his s*** together and start showing us that he has some balls to go along with his ability. He should have been ready to join us by now if his stuff and speed are of any indication. As for Clement, on all the Red Sox Boards I have always talked about his stuff and potential and to stay the course with him, but his pathetic performance against the Yankees told me something about the guy I didn't want to admit----Clement is gutless!!!!
  25. Chin Man, let me run this by you since you mentioned someone on the Dodgers. I live out here is So. Cal and the papers are full of reports of how the Dodgers are anxious to get rid of Odalis Perez. He must have done something wrong somewhere, but this can can pitch and the one thing that impresses about him is his ability to best his team's biggest opponents on their home field. He has been lights out against the Giants up in SF, and I think this guy getting around our classy Dominicans Papi and Manny would have a very positive effect on him. He wouldn't cost us much either since the Dodgers want to get rid of his contract that runs this year and next.
