  1. Only good part of it is Steve Shell, guy has great talent, other than that makes no sense, I don't like Rivera that much and we don't need to fill our 8th Starter vacancy.
  2. I would rather reep the benefits of showing self-restraint and keep all three of the trifecta (Backett, Lester, Papy) because is all likeliness they will be somethin special together and the foundation of our pitching staff. Sure Miguel is great, but right now I see no reason to trade anyone but Wells or Graffy for prospects or a back-up upgrade. I like the team we have, it will fit nicely with our future plans so I don't see a reason to change it. But elsrbueno, Gonzalez can be released by March 15th and be paid onloy 500 thou so if we did get Miggy that'd be what we'd do with him.
  3. Yeah, he seemed like a good guy. Just things didn't go his way, the knee problem in ST, not getting called up until August, the faimly thing later. I wish him the best of luck as he probably won't make the team.
  4. Well the B's are back on a roll, loved the agme last night, great team defense and that Bergeron-Boyes combo was absolutely sickening (in a good way) damn talk about Killer B's. On a side-note, It'll be interesting to see what Sully does when hannu ro Razor get abck and healthy. I say leave Thomas in as long as he can keep us in games and put the job up in next years pre-season camp.
  5. Yeah, that was a crap trade once I saw Lester in it. The guy has just too many positives -Power pitcher -Lefty -Good comparisons to MLB pitchers -Potential to be an ace -Great repetoire (bad spelling) of pitches -Ability to sneak by the high-heat Sandwich that in between Beckett and Papelbon in a 3 game series you are dealy.
  6. That wouldve been a greta trade for us for many reasons: We'd basically complete our future INF (besides Catcher) as Morales cna play 1st 1st: Morales 2nd: Kendrick 3rd: Wood Sht: Pedroia also getting Santana woudl replace what we lose in Sanchez and then some. Also I guess Figgins would be a stop-gap in left. owever we'd lose major power and not get anything else to come up with it.
  7. I would love to match up a healthy Johnson vs. a healthy Schilling at eitehr park/staudium. Even if we lose it should be quite a game that re-difnes the rivalry.
  8. Starts with an O, ends with a nwed (even if its not an owning, i just like sayin it)
  9. cant spell cocky without cock
  10. lmao, no comeback, u win lmao
  11. Not exactly that much under Captain f***off, o I meant Caveman
  12. I personally would rather have Ichiro at the top of my order before Damon, also he's shown signs of declining and has really only had 2-4 good seasons. Also I don't find Johnson that scary unless u count the wrinkles in his face. Also Brown was just an example of what money has bought you, not the players on your team (thank you) Comeback player the year as in back on steroids ARod though he has good stats, is basically the cooler of the Majors.
  13. Wow, this convo has really turned outta the topic. Frm teh AL East, to control v. power, to NFL v. MLB
  14. Well common sense would say getting hit by a 200 lbs monster would hurt more than throwing 5-10 pitches as hard as you can (with control). Alos if you look at some NFL players, such as Cory Dillon, he's 30+ and is already being somehwat considered for being replaced, whereas Pedro is 30+ and is still an ace.
  15. Yeah, totally agreed, but if you have control but throw 70 mph you won't exactly become an ace. It kind of a botomless-pit argument because as just said you need both
  16. Yeah, agreed, you need a decent amount of both to do well.
  17. I'm tellin ya, I need more sleep. Actually we both made the same error, I too looked up Slappy in 2004 and got nothing, however I forgot it was under Bitchslappy so there's the answer to my problem.
  18. I seriosuly doubt there's been s survey or count up of how many power to finesse pitchers tehre are in the Majors. And yes maybe less people are gifted with the stuff, etc. but they are more likely to make than a guy who throws 80 with good control. I agree control is improtant, but you can't just loft it in and hit it low and wherever and get away with it, you need the speed to deceive or make the batter's swing less effective, a la Mo's cutter.
  19. Well I'd say chemistry has SOMETHING to do with baseball, maybe not as much as other sports, but it does help. For example, if a catcher and pitcher hate each otehr, than they will most likely throw the wrong pitches and not communicate. If tehre's a double play situation a SS and 2B need to know the style of each other's play in order to execute it to it's fastest. If there's a fly ball to LF/CF than they need to know what the f***'s up. Also the reasons you gave for the Yanks losing aren't exactly dead on 2001- Great pitching (Schill, Johnson) 2002- Great overall (good starters, killer bullpen, good offense) 2003- Great pitching/defense (terrific starters, gg defense) 2004- Plain old choke
  20. Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, etc.
  21. AND that talent comes with a free bonus of egotistical pricks/cheaters such as Damon, Sheffield, Johnson, Brown, and Giambi.
  22. Well, if history has anything to say in the new millenium, it says that the strategy u speak of doesn't work. Ever since the Yanks dynsatsy, the Yanks have yet to win, why? chemistry. In the dysnatsy, the Yanks had mostly home-grown players and went deep every post-season because of it. With the Yanks, theyre bringing in new old NL pitchers every off-season and due to Steinbrenner's bidding, have gone after the wrong players (Sheff over Vlad). Not syaing it's just dynasty, but as I stated earlier, defense and rock solid pitching, of which the Yankees are in question (injuries, age). Also please don't use the weak stats statement Rivenator, that says nothing
  23. the bigger they talk, the harder they fall... but yea in all likelyhood the Yanks should win for one more year
  24. Okay, with Varitek, throwing out runners isn't the most improtant stat at all. If you watched the Sox palyoff games and select regular-season games, you'll see how good he is when a close play is at the plate, ex. Burnes when he tripped over Tek's leg and OVER the base, that's one of many. Now defense is a bigger factor than most may think, the White Sox had it, the Sox had it, the Marlins ahd it, you name it they probably had fantastic pitching along with great defense. Nixon also is in no way a statue, he'll run through a ring-of-fire to get a ball, and has a decent amount of range in RF when he can run at 100%. Manny also, may i remind you led the league in assists last year for some time and wasn't that bad at all. Ans lastly, Schill admitted in his ESPN inetrview that he rushed back and was injured or not 100% for most of the time he was back. Did you see him when he was on? When he ehld the Yanks to under 3 runs twice?
