I think the players would want both - a ring and a WBC trophy...but perhaps for different reasons. A WBC trophy, this year, the first year of the classic, I would think would be pretty big. It is hard to compare that to a World Series win...as MC Hammer said..the WS has history..and the WBC doesn't have that yet. Sure, I bet if you asked any of those players in the classic, they'd be psyched to win the WBC trophy. But I don't think it's comparative to the WS ring....definately not equal..like MC said...these players grow up wanting that World Series...it's embedded. A win in the WBC will be great, as it in their competitive nature, but I wouldn't think it would be revered as much as that ring.
As for that game against Japan....that was a really good game. It was refreshing to see a game that didn't invoke the mercy rule. That first replay I saw of the contraversial call....it looked like that runner left the bag early...and Buck knew the rules of the game, and the ump rotation...so I guess the USA just lucked out. I don't have an opinion either way...those replays were tough to judge on, but I'm certainly glad it went in the USA's favor.
It's certainly different for me to be hoping A-rod and Jeter do good....
