  1. Absolutely correct. He is a perfect example of exactly what the sox DONT want. If you remember back, Theo was never a fan of Nomar for the same reason. Sox look for guys with high OB% and the ability to work the count. They would never pay a player the money Shea makes to go up and hack away. Plus, where do they play him? certainly not 3B unless Toronto decides they want a 3B making 9 million dollars to back up an Allstar in Glaus, and certainly not 1B where they already have the prototypical RedSox type hitter (low money, high OB%).
  2. Cant this go in another area of this site? This is crap...this is sox talk, not springer.
  3. Ahhhh yeah Seanez has been awful, but still not as bad as Julian Tavarez....or Dinardo
  4. Bronson Arroyo is a proven major league pitcher. Abe Alvarez will be very lucky if he even ends up in a major league rotation.
  5. Jeff Frye-loved watching the guy hit, always took pitches....great little ballplayer. .290 career average, .357 career OBP...injuries took their toll. Troy o"leary- The best first half hitter in baseball.....he always forgot there were two halves of a season. Jamie Moyer- I was infuriated they traded the guy in 96 with a 7-1 record, went on to win many many games. Mike Stanley- The definition of professional. Johnny Valentin- 95' style....double machine, speed, pop.....then the knees went. Above average third baseman after the switch. Reggie Jefferson- the guy could rake, and was never really given a chance anywhere fulltime. Mo Vaughn- you never know what would have happened had he never left. What if he did stay? What if he didnt gain the weight? Unofficial captain. Leyritz- loved watching him hit, dont know why...very unique batting stance. Daubach- owned big league pitching for half a season. You knew what you would get. Darren Lewis- major league record for games without an error. wish we had a guy like him today rather than willie harris Mike Benjamin- great utility player, quiet, steady Obviously Pedro, Nomar, Lowe My hate list: Lansing-atrocious ArroJo-never figured it out, had a rubber arm and everyhting moved Wilton Veras- monster frame, no power Lomasney- our farm was so awful we had a 27 year old catcher who was a "prospect" Offerman- we were told he would replace some of the contributions Vaughn left Avery- replacement for Clemens, worked out well Chris Stynes- big year in CIN, bad year with us Jeff Suppan BK Kim Kevin Mitchell Ed Sprague Butch Huskey Wil Cordero Michael Coleman- see "Lomansney" Rudy Pemberton- had a good few weeks and we name him starting RF the next season Arquimedez Pozo-was supposed to be a power hitting 3B prospect Alcantara-what a waste of power Psycho Carl- nutbag
  6. I wonder if there is a performance clause in Wells contract. MAybe get something in return much like the astros were looking to do with bagwell and the white sox did with thomas. If i remember right, thomas had to take a paycut because of the money he was making and hi on field performance...just a thought
  7. Sickkkkkkkkkkkkk Message Kiddddddddddd
  8. PS. I dont want Dave Roberts and his career .340 OB% leading off for the RedSox. He is a below average leadoff hitter.
  9. Bellhornish is .225 .380 .440 .820 with 150 K's. The day bellhorn hits .270 is the day I stop watching baseball. Take a look at Bellhorns career. What a statistical freak he was.
  10. Reed in CF isn't necessarily a weak stick. Stern is. Reed will only improve. His decent OB% and below average batting average tell us that he has a very good eye. (Only hit .251, but had a .350+OB%)
  11. He isnt coming back in any important capacity. He may come back in an advisor role. Theo is done as GM of the Sox.
  12. Stern has to remain on the roster for about the first month of the season, or he is returned to Atlanta due to his rule 5 status. Stern will be on the club out of Spring Training.

  14. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/12/21/damon_jumps_to_yankees/ Another article which highlights many points I made.
  15. And here: http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/012591.php The Sox plan appears to be "win now and rebuild." Maybe you can't do both.-Tony Masseroti
  16. I love how I put a ton of effort in to a post, and someone takes something like that out of it, and tells me to explain it. Explain what? Explain a gut feeling? I didnt state any fact there, so what is there to back up? It was opinion, my opinion. Unlike many users here I regularly back up posts and statements with references. Dont believe me? Check. But sure, being the good sport I am, I will BACK IT UP....so here it goes: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/jacob_luft/12/21/dec21.chatter/index.html
  17. Thats fine if they actually go out and sign Jones, my money is on it that they wont however. They didn't stick by any price either. They were completely blindsighted and while Damon gave them fair warning, they chose to believe it was rumor and that Damon would settle for what they were offering. While negotiations were ongoing with Damon the Sox themselves created several rumors that they were pursuing other options, and to this day we still have no replacement. The thing that scares me most about the FO is their lack of driection. The Sox were blowing smoke up everyones ass and playing hardball with Damon and Damon took the best offer on the table realizing LL was too stubborn to accpet the fact that maybe someone else wanted Damon. The Yankees played this whole scenario perfectly. They were telling everyone Damon was not an option and that Bubba Crosby was their starting CF only to undermine the RedSox FO importance of rushing into neogtiations with Damon and getting into a bidding war. The Yankees pulled off a steal and played the whole negotiations process perfectly, nothing leaked, unlike the Sox and their PR blunders, and in the end, ended up netting the best leadoff hitter available and filling a HUGE hole in their team while leaving their rival with yet another hole to fill.
  18. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051223&content_id=1287048&vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp Sanders got a 2year 10M contract.
  19. I actually predict Damon low with the Yankees. His first big contract was with Oakland and he absolutely bombed in Oakland, he didnt start playing well till he came to Boston. .256 .324OB 9HR 49RBI in Oakland. I predict him .275 .350 14HR 75RBI
  20. EXCELLENT point about Reggie Sanders. The nomadic ageless OF got 3/30 from the ROYALS of all teams, and we couldnt shovel out the money for an allstar leadoff hitter.
  21. He has caught 11.0 Innings at Catcher in the past two seasons. I wouldnt count on it as a C, and he is a below average RF and an awful 1B. Average RF for a 1B is 8.07, Wilson was at 7.12. As a C, he has 4 PB in 47 games, with a FP of .986, awful for a C.
  22. Well, we will see. He could end up being another version of Bernie Williams (overpaid for age, and production) or he may end up continuing to produce. Either way I guess the point is that many people dont understand why he left and it has been clear since day 1. The market value was set and the Sox didnt match that value. Was the bar set a little high with Furcal? yes, but if we wanted to retain him we had to at least match it.
  23. Gammons reported he had a discussion with Boras regarding Johnny Damon after Damon signed with the Yankees and said that Damon would have stayed in Boston had Theo Epstein remained here. He said that Epstein would have made a deal that was slightly better than the one that Furcal got and that Boras advised Damon to take nothing less of what Furcal got. There was no way Damon was going to take less than Furcal got based on the past two seasons of production. My opinion: Ouch. In other threads I conctantly said that the market was set with Furcal. It was all true. Why should Damon take less than Furcal? If someone is willing to pay Furcal the money he got, the Sox should have realized someone would pay Damon. Its over and done with, and Damon will be missed. The only way this turns into a postivie is if we get Reed. I really believe he is the only guy who can replace what Damon gave us.Reed only hit .250 something, but his OB% was decent, and as his batting average increases, as will his OB%. His OB% is something to work with. Eventually he too, like Damon will develop the power numbers and Reed also p[lays very good D. Now that Manny wants to stay I think we can put together a package including Arroyo/Clement/ maybe Marte, and another young arm (not Lester or Paps). Manny staying is a positive because if we get Reed we can still have a very good offense. Either way I think, and once again Ill say it, The FO screwed this one up, unless we spin off something for Reed.
  24. I only argue Loretta #2 because I think he has better contact skills then Youkilis. If Youk gets on in front of Loretta, I think there is a better chance Loretta moves him over to second with a hit, walk, or productive out. If Loretta leads off I think Youkilis is less likely to move him over with a productive out or some sort of production. I am not sure if there is a way to measure this because of Youkilis's lack of experiance and lack of AB's. I know ESPN has a section on "productive outs". I guess this is more a matter of personal opinion at this point however.
  25. Well Manny really screwed up what I thought would happen. *I dont see Graffy on the team * I dont see Loretta at SS *I dont see Loretta Batting Leadoff, or Reed 2nd. I see Youk 1, Loretta 2, and Reed about 8 or 9. Youk has the on base skills and Loretta is a perfect #2 hitter.
