  1. I really dont understand it man haha. Sox get a superstar stud. PHI gets an aging hurt 3B. Astros get a promising arm. Yeah sign me up.
  2. So the Sox make out with the biggest player of the deal. The Phillies get an aging hurt (right now) expensive veteran and a pitcher who hasnt proven anything. And the Astros get a low single A catcher, whos been in single A for 3 years and is turning 22, chris carter who is nobody and is the next coming of adam hyzdu minus the ability to field a ball, daniel bard who does have good upside, and jason donald who projects to be according to some reports "good defensively, bottom of the order hitter". How does this benefit anyone besides the Sox?
  3. can you PM me with instructions of how to do this for future reference? thanks -SCM
  4. Youd rather see: Beckett Lester DiceK Willis Smoltz I think thats 2 major question marks, and if Beckett doesnt have a huge season they will be in trouble.
  5. Are you also a fan of a Sheets signing rather than a trade for Peavy? Beckett Lester Sheets DiceK Smoltz Not bad.
  6. I think Willis is staying in DET...I think that was squashed earlier in the offseason. Is Smoltz a bullpen option, or 5 starter in your suggestion we sign him?
  7. Thats why I say lets see where the market goes. I think he ha a ton left. He always gets to 200 IP, hes never hurt, he spent the first half his career as a reliever, so I think he has a lot of bullets left, and on a good team he gets you 15 wins, not bad if we consdier him a 5th man.
  8. Peavy may not require him, but to make two trades...for a TEX catcher AND PEavy w/o giving him up may be out of the question. I dont think the door is closed on Lowe, lets see how the market goes. What else is garbage? signing 2 bats for the bench, one of which is a hometown guy, another one who fits the mold of a typical redsox versatile player? Signing a catcher who might put up better numbers than Varitek for less money, and possibly less of a commitment?
  9. Alot of the posts in that thread were kind of poking fun at the FO for the remainder of the offseason. I thought it was kind of going off track. I thought a thread which is a fresh start moving forward in the aftermath of the deal would be a good idea. If not, merge.
  10. I posted some of these ideas in another thread. Trade for Peavy....without giving up Bucholz Sign Dlowe, groundball pitcher might equalize the Yankees lineup. Rotation: Beckett Lester Peavy DiceK Lowe Bullpen Delcarmen Ramirez Bucholz Masterson Okijima Papelbon Swingman Wakefield Offer Ivan Rodriguez a 1 year deal, how much worse than Tek can he be? If not Irod, Johjima. Trade for one of Texas catchers (might be hard if they deal for Peavy w/o giving up Masterson or Bucholz) Sign Rocco Baldelli Get another bat off the bench...a corner LHH OF/1B type....Wilkerson/Floyd Sign Jason Bay long term now. C-I-Rod or Johjima/and Kotarras/Tex catcher as your 2 catchers, take your pick 1B-Youkils 2B-Pedroia SS-Lugo, I just dont see them making a deal//Jed Lowrie 3B-Lowell LF-Bay CF-Ellsbury RF-Drew DH-Papi Bench: Lowrie Baldelli Wilkerson/Floyd Backup catcher Cora walks, byebye Javier Lopez. The lineup cannot deal with Teks bat now that we were not able to deal with TEX, he cannot be brought back. The Sox start moving foward with life without Tim Wakefield,
  11. Pedro, Mirabelli, Gabe Kapler
  12. Yankees sign Kevin Cash. ******* move. No other way to slice it.....just a bunch of D-bags over there.....looks like they really want to get the rivalry going in full force again. (I posted this same post in minor offseason moves also)
  13. Yankees sign Kevin Cash. *******s move. No other way to slice it.....just a bunch of D-bags over there.....looks like they really want to get the rivalry going in full force again.
  14. my comment was poking fun at the TEX signing
  15. minor moves.......you mean the RedSox whole offseason so far?
  16. Id like to see it happen, I pray a team will sign Julio Franco to get just one meaningless AB at the end of some shot season just to say he was 50 and got an AB (yes I know its been done before by Minoso). I like the guys who defy the suggestion that age is a qualifying factor for the ability to produce.

An article I read, which got my mind going to write the thread about him: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove08/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=3773760
  19. Anyone surprised at the lack of talk about this guy? I know that the market is just waiting for the chips to fall in terms of Offensive players (Tex, Manny, Burrell, Dunn) but there has been zero talk about this guy. I guess hes pretty boring, but he does have 6 straight 100+ RBI seasons, he does hit more than 20 dingers a year, he does hit .300, and manages to get on base at a .400 clip..... .300 BA 20 HR 100 RBI .400 OBP 20 SB a year Even with all that, not much interest from anyone. I know he played a little bit of SS in the minor leagues, I really wish he also played a little bit of 1B, to be a backup plan for Tex.....anyone else surprised? Hes one of the most consistent year to year players in all of baseball, let alone this FA class, and hes only 34......has a couple more left in the tank. Discuss.
  20. I really enjoyed watching him when he was with the Sox. I believe he was 8-1 when they traded him, I was 16 or 17, and really bummed out because those were bad years to be a Sox fan. Does anybody else find it remarkable at what hes done? I mean, sure....other have pitched this old, but have others been this good? Jaime Moyer 45 years old, 16-7, 196 IP, 3.71 ERA, 1.329 WHIP Nolan Ryan 45 years old, 5-9, 157 IP, 3.72 ERA, 1.417 WHIP Tommy John 45 years old, 9-8, 176.3 IP, 4.49 ERA, 1.514 WHIP Niekro compares well, but he was a knuckler. Although it would never happen, wouldnt it be great for a guy to somehow, someway get into the hall of fame although his career never really started til he was 33? To be released by 4 teams in 6 seasons and told in 1995, at the age of 32 that he should consider retiring? I think his career is one of the more fascinating careers in all of baseball, and pull for him to make the hall (although a huge longshot). If he averages just a little more than 13 wins a season, for 4 more years (he just signed a 2 year deal) he could have a chance at 300, and how much out of the question is it considering he won 16 games this year, 14 the year before, and the fact he wants to continue to play, and the fact he pitches in the NL.......just sayin.
  21. The road uniform has traditionally always been a bit bland. http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/uniforms.asp?lowYear=1900&highYear=2009&city=Boston&league=AL&sort=year&increment=18&pos=1 I think these are actually a little bit more eye appealing than traditional grays because they kind of remind of of a "classic" type look rather than just a simple replica of a home uniform with a tint of gray and the word Boston in the same type of lettering. I really think the hat sucks though. If they were going to go with an alternative hat, like someone else said, I think the 75 hat would have been more appropriate: http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/detail_page.asp?fileName=al_1975_boston.gif&Entryid=1274
