  1. Scott Boras dug this up to save face. There was NO WAY the sox were going to cut Varitek if he had accepted the arbitration. He was an abysmal black hole in the lineup, and the Sox were still willing to offer the arbitration in the first place, which meant they were willing to pony up the money. He rejected the offer because Boras told him he could get more. The sox knew better, and once he rejected the bargaining swayed in the Sox favor. If Varitek took the arbitration, played even a LITTLE better than he had this season, he very well may have got a pay increase in 2010 (maybe 11M). Instead hes going to be playing for 5M a year. Varitek wants answers as to what happened, and Boras pulled this s*** out of his ass instead of just admitting he f***ed up.
  2. Fruit cake.
  3. Not a major leaguer.
  4. Its not a stat which directly evaluates a players talent these days with all of the other sabremetric values which are now used at evaluating talent. A player like Adam Dunn only hits in he .240s, but that is not his value. He is an OB% slugging freak. A player like Mark Bellhorn, if measured by batting average, would have been on the bench in favor of Pokey Reese who had a couple fluke batting average seasons, but who was a poor offensive player in the totality of his statistics. A player like Rey Sanchez hit .281 for the Sox a few years back, but contributed very little production. No power, didnt get on base besides a single. In 357 ABs, only had 16 extra base hits. I still think it is valuable in evaluating a player over a period of time however. Over a three year period if a guy goes from .250 to .270 to .290 or if it goes in reverse I think it can show trends in their skills growing or declining in terms of bat speed and hand eye coordination especially if that makes a players SLG% or OB% go up or down.
  5. I agree, and I think it will be Varitek returning. I think people look at Kottaras and see him as a fresh face, but the reality is......even if he were to put up the SAME numbers as Varitek, Variteks experience and knowledge of the pitching staff, and their comfort level give him the edge. Unless Kottaras was a significant upgrade (which he is not), its not worth it. Just pony up and bring back Tek.
  6. I am not missing the point.....you are. Varitek was awful in 08. Im not shooting for his production, im shooting for at LEAST his production. Kottaras will be worse.....which would be shooting for below Variteks 08 production. Three s***** catchers dont make a good one. Id rather see Bard and a major league FA backup, any of them rather than Brown or Kottaras. Also, who wants to waste a roster spot on a third s***** catcher, when you could just carry 2 s***** catchers? Id rather see Ivan Rodriguez as sad as that sounds.
  7. diony...thats kinda what Im trying to say haha.... You did it in one sentence.......(looks in the mirror, IDIOT)
  8. I dont understand how .243 at AAA (Kottaras) translated in to what Varitek did this year. His career at AAA has been awesome. Averages of .243, .241, .210. If he cant hit AAA, how do you expect to him to maintain his OB% at a higher level with better, more accurate pitchers with better stuff? Add in the fact hes not good enough defensively to make up for his s***** offensive production...then what value does he have? Perfect example......Sal Fasano. Career .256 hitter in the minors. Hit HR totals of 32,25,22,21,20 in the minors. A real slugging minor league catcher with a good defensive reputation. What did he ever do? If peoples answer to the catching situation is Dusty Brown, or George Kottaras.......then find another answer.
  9. Yeah, I already tried to show him that he was caught in a lie, dont worry.....hell try to cover one lie with another, and instead of just coming clean, or simply proving something with actual fact.....he will just insult you instead all in an attempt to make you forget what the original point was.....and bury his original lie under 2 pages and 30 something message board posts, all in the insulting variety. 26-6: I am a full time correctional officer/deputy sheriff (which means I have passed both a DOC academy which is basically a shrunken down version of army bootcamp, and a police academy which was pretty easy), and a part time police officer for a non-civil service department in a small community. I do a few patrols now and then, work the desk a little and pick up a detail here or there (yes, we do still get them). I do most of my time inside the walls but do work outside here and there when I feel like tacking on a cruiser shift to my 40 hours inside, the thing that sucks is that I work 3-11, then Ill pick up a shift at the PD for 11-7 (more like 1130, since I have to drive from one to the other).
  10. "Marines" talk like this? What an embarrassment to our country.
  11. Yup, really laid a whipping in to me. Lets just wait for others to read the whole conversation to weigh in though k? Are you done yet? Or are you still editing EVERY single post you made towards me tonight?
  12. After this amazing post, responded with such eloquence, and such intelligent thinking, I have no response. Your baffling response speaks for itself. When wrong, resort to name calling and humiliation on a baseball forum. I am insulted to the point it hurts so bad I just might break my keyboard in the same way you violently hit yours typing up a truly demeaning post. The old sticks and stones rumor is really not true, your words have really touched, and hurt me in a way i can never explain. I will now go away and hide in the shadows of your military training and 87 MPH humdingers to second base. Goodnite my worst nightmare....
  13. Yeah, lets just write just about everything you said tonight as a typo.... Im sure it is a joke, but at least I went through it instead of posting random crap that isnt true. Again......for the 4th time, what does this matter towards your original point. I am nothing. I am a 6 year old kid. I dont have a job. I never went through an academy. I never served. I am a janitor. I am jsut a dumb mass cop. I am nothing I said I was. This is a baseball forum, that shouldnt matter. Back to the original point. Prove you played minor league baseball, the reason its so important is the fact you made it a point to post your skills and the fact you are a scout. actually, forget it........if you want to post it...... then my secret identity comes out.......I am Dustin Pedroia. I am the man. I am ROY and MVP..... How is that any different?
  14. Why do you keep editing your posts? BTW 3rd Battalion platoon 3074 was in the year of 1978, so again I call your bluff. The fact that you edited your post and took out much of the original post also makes me want to call your bluff about that. El toro closed in 1999, so according to those numbers, you served in 1978 til 1999....at the very least you managed to serve almost 20 years in the marines, all while being a minor league baseball player? What is a seniro drill instructor? They are called Senior Drill instructors, did you copy and paste from a spanish website? You went from minor league baseball player, to marine softball player, to professional scout? Is anything you say truth?
  15. Again, throwing random s*** against the wall to see what sticks. So you lied to the united states marine core? You sound like an honorable man. The word I use for people like you is "topper". You have to top everything. Who f***ing cares about anything you just posted. Who said anything about military? Who said anything about training.....you are right, I am not a cop, I am a security guard. I make 9 bucks an hour. You are right, I am a liar.....I am a quincy janitor and I scrub toilets. What does that matter? How do you use that as an argument that you played professional baseball? You claimed you were a professional baseball player, on a baseball forum with knowledgeable baseball followers. Again, back to the original point.......prove you played.
  16. Ok, but lets get back to the original point, where you have wavered from since you are obviously taking this to a personal level by insulting a member of the law enforcement community rather than just defending yourself. Rather you pawn off your claims by insulting people, because that is the easier, lazier way of dealing with someone calling your bluff. Where is your proof besides the s*** talking and random claims of throbbing my hand. BTW, Im neither a Boston Cop (white, irish kids arent so lucky) or a trooper (there has been a hiring freeze for 5 years now). I also find it humorous you insult any type of police force, since they are the first person one calls when they cant handle the little stuff themselves. Especially......yours and my favorite......fraud. You wouldnt know anything about that would ya? Mr. big shot minor league baseball catcher who throws 87 mph and is famous for the throbbing hand syndrome.
  17. No, but sometimes you dont want to open a can of worms, now people just think you are a horseshit liar, and when questioned about an outrageous claim to fame, cannot prove it. Message boards are about credibility, and outrageous claims like "Im a scout, I used to play minor league ball" are pretty far out there. Message boards are for like.....what was it? "Pointdexters" who wear "horn rimmed glasses" like myself, or so you say.
  18. The fact that you find the need to post these numbers leads one to believe: 1. Glove to pop to pop translates as, you get a oven mitt off, pop open a refrigerator, then pop open a nice cold one between the times of 1.72-1.81 seconds. 2.Your strength is crouching, over a toilet.....taking herculean deuces, which travel from your rectum at a whopping 87 MPH, which leads me to believe you damaged a regular porcelain toilet and have since upgraded to titanium. If you played, post a page where it could be proven. http://www.Thebaseballcube.com posts minor league numbers from as far back as the mid 80's I believe. If you are so intent on making believers outta people.....prove people wrong and post it.
  19. I wonder if he returns to his old "scumbag/ trailer park/ I punch mommy at the dinner table look again with the long hair and goatee.
  20. Another former scout, graces these message boards....what an honor. Anyone remember Blades of Glory, when the show producer states, "another former skating legend, walking through the doors for the grublets"????? Similar no?
  21. A paragraph sums of the 33 year (1901-1934) history of one of the most storied franchises in all professional sports, and you are looking for comments? More was written over Babe Ruth and his legendary dumps.
  22. Your point B.... While this is true, Dawson was a very good OF GG aside.
