If he is signed to supplement Gonzalez at 1B, I like it. If this is our replacement for LF and we sign Beltre to play 3B, or allow Kotchman to start the season as a starter.....then its a dumb move. Any chance he has been singed as a fourth OF/Platoon?????? The money is a little high for a role player, but I certainly hope we are not hanging our hats on this one.

What does Theo want? He preaches OB% and OPS and talks about how great JD Drew is and that his numbers are not measured in traditional baseball numbers Avg/HR/RBI (which I agree, although I bash the contract every now and then), then he targets a player who has awful on base numbers who hasnt had an on base % above .328 in the last five seasons who was, when all things considered a disappointment in Seattle. Every year, its frustrating. One year we go defense at SS, then offense, which didnt pan out, then we go back defense, then offense, then on base skills, then defense blah blah blah blah. Make up your mind Theo, what is your philosophy....his philosophy is like New England weather. -
Branyan, id say no at this point. Ive always liked him, but dont think he is good enough to play here. Huff, no....too inconsistent. I too, like Laroche. I really dont want Beltre to play 3B. I think we take a step back with him. Im hoping this opens doors to either bringing in Gonzalez, or leads to a trade for Halladay. If they sign a big bat for LF, acquire Halladay...then yes, I will be ok with Beltre at 3B.

Where does he play in Texas? 3B is occupied with Young. 1B is occupied with Davis, assuming he is their 1B after a disastrous 2009. DH is open with Andruw Jones and Blalock both FA. Is he their starting DH/platoon 1B when Davis sits vs. lefties?

Laroche is interesting. He didnt get a fair chance here, and tore it up once he left.

They wont carry 3 catchers on the big league roster this year. If he stays, he plays in AAA this year, and he will be 26 next year. I have a feeling he is a trading chip.

So you think......they traded Mike Lowell, paid his whole salary for a AAA catcher, only to sign Adrian Beltre and their done? You can laugh at me all you want, but they arent done yet.

Or they are spinning the Catching prospect to Toronto in a deal for Halladay. We technically already have a catcher for the immediate future, and Toronto is looking for one. Either they are going after Adrian Gonzalez, or Roy Halladay.

Why? You think they moved Mike Lowell, and are paying his whole salary to sign Beltre, who had a worse year than Lowell? Sorry to disappoint you, but I doubt those are his plans. This moves paves the way for a bigger move, not a smaller one.

I have been generally agreeing with you lately, but 11 innings, for a reliever....more importantly a closer.....is a pretty good amount. Thats 11 games for a closer. A reliever who has poor numbers through 11 outings, generally has a poor season.
