  1. I've found it cheaper and less time consuming to fly to another city and watch the Red Sox there than to get tickets for Fenway at times. The suggestion about a Boston NL team and ballpark would let one see Pro ball and use the T. It would let a new ballpark get built, but keep wrecking balls away from Landsdowne Street etc. Getting tickes easier is just one aspect to justifying this fantasy of mine
  2. Do you babysit
  3. I agree that this isn't likely to happen. I don't agree that no one would watch them, assuming a NL team. I'd love to easliy get face value tickets, see NL teams locally (besides inter-league play), and get a new ballpark that doesn't result in anything happening to Fenway. If an expansion team, the Sox would get a few easy inter-league wins on rivaly week too. I don't see another NL team here as being any more distracting than the Sox overlapping the Pats, the Pat playing while the Bruins and Celtics play. The Bruins and Celtics play all the time and I catch all of it, along with out of town teams. I can't be the only one with no life!
  4. Didn't even think of that. Taking the family to Fenway, hoping to get 4 or more of those 500-1000 seats anywear near each other is problematic. What do you do if you can't all sit together? What do you tell the kids if, after waiting around, you don't get seats at all? My friends and I just start at the Cask and do a pub crawl. I'll make the best of it. With a family, that's not an option. Worse, you get seats, in the bleachers, and the kids pick up some new words for their vocabulary! (I mean worse that what I yell at home when McCarver opens his mouth)
  5. Right now, Wells IMHO. I'm another big Wakefield fan though. He'd be my #2 guy in the playoffs if they started now.
  6. I need to plan (way) ahead these days. The eyes are not what they used to be either, so I'd prefer seats closer to the field. I was tempted to fly to Chicago after watching all the empty seats at whatever they call Comiskey Park this week. It is easier (and possibly cheaper?) to fly to another city to get (good) seats to see the Red Sox than to go to Fenway. I don't think the boss will approve a business trip that happens to be only for the weekend the Sox are playing the Sox though.
  7. There is no such thing as too much baseball Part of why I made the suggestion was that one cannot get tickets to Fenway to see MLB. I already watch, via TV etc. many other teams now. So having another one local will not change that. I'll always be a Sox fan. But I go out of my way to see the Cubs on TV or, when I get the chance, in Wrigley or another town. When I visit my folks in FLA, I go see the Marlins etc. No such thing as a bad day at the ballpark.
  8. What about the next(?) round of expansion. I'm only on my first pot of coffee, so I might not have this right. Doesn't the AL have more teams than the NL?
  9. The Cubs don't make any money off those seats though (at least last I checked). Last time I went to a Cubs game I tried to get seats like this, but couldn't. I had to settle for being in the friendly confines of Wrigley again. I hope to never hear any "new Fenway Park" talk again (the same for Wrigley Field - I'm a Cub fan too. Until last year, my heart was broken in both leagues each year!) I too plan on getting my son to both Fenway and Wrigley before someone knocks them down. I would still like a new pro ballpark in Boston though. I'd love to see a National League team back in Boston. Tickets to the Sox are hard to come by. Another team would give the city a new ballpark that some people have wanted, home games when the Sox are out of town and home games with tickets available. I think Boston can support 2 baseball teams.
  10. 4 Nights of Carl Everett should be fun. Mostly night games, with none on Fox/ESPN. Even better.
  11. What will he cost to keep him next year? If Theo isn't willing to pay it, the Sox will loose him anyway. I hate waiting until the offseason to settle these matters. If you have no interest (like in Lowe's case), fine. Make it clear to everyone. We had to sweat out Tek last winter. I'd much rather get Mueller and Damon confirmed for the future, than have to worry about these kind of moves before the deadline.
  12. His contract is up at the end of the year (as was Nomar's last year). The thinking goes, get something for him before he is a free agent. This type of move would let Youk play every day.
  13. I agree with you, dispite the results of the past series in Fenway. But just making the playoffs isn't enough, I'm greedy. The Pats raised the bar. It's the ChiSox that really worry me. I guess we'll know a bit more of what we'll need to get past them (if needed) after the next weekend.
  14. Theo also has a long term agenda that we can only speculate about as well. It's possible that nothing will be done this year, as the long term cost will be too high. No doubt we can win with this team. We only really loose when the entire pitching staff (mostly bullpen) stinks at the same time or the the entire line up slumps (3 hits vs TB is criminal!) When we win, there are always some players that carry those who are having a tough spell.
  15. Which leads one to conclude that the Sox will not get a TON of help b4 the deadline. If true (and I agree with you) this takes Theo out of the picture. We'll have to play the hand we have. Unless someone steps up from Pawtucket to help out. There already has been a lot said about bringing people up. So I'll not add to it other than to say that I'm all for it. Bellhorn, Ortiz, Mueller etc. took someone elses spot because they produced when others didn't (be it injury, slump whatever.) The team needs to win, and I don't care who is in the line up to acomplish that.
  16. Good point. Millar hits very well in Fenway. Given that we have a lot more home games in the 2ed half, I'd expect to seem a lot more from him down the streach this year.
  17. Actually, after the deadline, and the new faces, the Sox still had a 2 week rough spell, before they took off. And we were a lot worse off in the standings then too. So its not over by any means. My only concern is that other teams are a lot better than they were last year too. And I expect Theo's counterparts to be active as well. I feel there is less room for error this year.
  18. We have a way of making All Stars out of bad pitchers. I hope this isn't the case tonight.
  19. But we (especially the players and manager) can learn from the mistakes of this game. The question is, will they?
  20. At least Cora can move the runners into scoring position with no outs vs. a strike out. It's the least the number 9 batter could do.
  21. Typically we know early in the game if the Sox are going to have "one of those nights" vs. Mussina where we can't hit him. Regardless, if we at least make him throw a lot of pitches, we get to their bullpen early. Then the fun really begins. I don't see us getting sweeped - far from it. The Sox know how important this series is, and in Fenway, with a lot of possible playoff teams on deck.... I think we'll do just fine.
  22. Another Trot lover here. Came up through the system, fixed that revolving door in right after Dewey left.
  23. I agree. We need to improve in a few areas, well covered here already. I'm counting on Theo (who is up there with Red Auerbach IMHO) to address these. Other teams will try to improve before the deadline too. I don't think anyone here is saying the sky is falling. But there are weaknesses. One other thing I haven't seen mentioned here yet is yet another injury. With certain positions not pulling their weight, it will only take one key guy getting hurt to make winning it all real hard. The Sox cannot be deep enough. Making the playoffs isn't enough. I want to repeat.
  24. Let Ortiz play first (covered in another thread). Then anyone can DH
