  1. It's been a L O N G time since I played baseball. My "stance" is identical to Homer Simpson's. :-) Back when 38 had the road games, I'd be on a bar stool watching the game. Home games, on the couch watching NESN (I HATED listening to Will McD.) As for my son, my dad and I are teaching him to swing like Ted Williams. Might as well emulate the best!
  2. See for yourself: http://www.boston.com/sports/specials/sox_opener06/newseats_fenway/
  3. For that to remain, he needs to show it to us every now and then.
  4. This info explains a lot. Now I understand the move. Thanks.
  5. You're right. Stern is also fast and bats lefty too. Until Crisp returns, Stern provides options off the bench in the field, pitch running etc. late in the game when he doesn't start against a RHP. I'd love to know why now and not after Crips comes back from the DL.
  6. Yup. Especially if you played like the year Rico hit 40 HR's, back when a SS didn't hit for power.
  7. If the coffee has kicked in, I remember this right. Eck said it re Manny's double to right at the end of the game. The guy in RF was playing too far in. If he was playing normal RF, "it was a can of corn". Others with more coffee in them this a.m. feel free to correct me. I'm still o my 1st pot.
  8. Did anyone else hear Dennis Eckersley say "can of corn" in the post game show? Does anyone know what the heck that means?
  9. Rico Petrocelli
  10. Foulke? Say it ain't so. I think my boss called Tito and told him to give me a reason to get back to work.
  11. Who's "fault" was it that Bloomquist stole third? Did Tavarez not look him back? Bad throw to Lowell? etc. We can't score with RISP, but the M's reach on an error and score the go ahead run with out a hit or a walk! Go figure.
  12. Was the infield in on that ground out to 2b that scored the M's 5th run?
  13. I'm checking the game progress in work via Yahoo. Would Nixon's GR double have scored a run if the ball didn't go out of play?
  14. Until then, to answer the question which is the subject of this thread..... Foulke should be out as closer. If/when he rebounds, this board will gladly reconsider What to do with him until then? Perhaps the subject of a different thread. I already voted to change his place of employment to McCoy Stadium, but if he stays with the Sox to get work, it will be tough for me to remain sober if Foulke enters any game with less that a 4 run lead at present. (Ok, its tough for me regardless, but you get the idea.) Once Foulke rebounds enough to get out of those innings with a 4 run lead, then we can try tighter situations.
  15. Rumor has it that Foulke is going to the All Star Game .... Papi needs someone to pitch to him in HR Derby.
  16. Hey, isn't this how Babe Ruth started out? Sox trade a pitcher who ends up in right field....
  17. I volunteer to personally drive him to McCoy Stadium myself.
  18. I thought Yahoo sent me to last weeks box score. Bronson Arroyo hit another HR against the Cubs in his first AB today. Who knew!
  19. I agree. At other times in his career, Foulke lost that role and moved into the bullpen. This should be another one of those times. I admit that I'm not a big fan of his, as a closer, even in 2004. There is/was nothing automatic about him. To me, a closer needs to have a fastball in the 90+ range as a rule.
  20. http://www.nyyfans.com It claims 11k members
  21. Perhaps even 3-3. The Sox had the benefit of a lot of KC mistakes in each game of this series. I'll take a win any way I can get one. But I agree with your point. If they were playing anyone else, we might not have done as well this week.
  22. I expect a full court press for Johnny Damon in the off season. The Yanks will probably give Matsui what he wants too.
  23. I wouldn't put it past his wife wanting to be in a larger media market. Steinbrenner would love to get him off the Sox, needs a new CF and doesn't mind shelling out big bucks. I don't rule this out.
  24. College was fun. Enjoy this time. The real world $*s. Try having fantastic Sox tickets and then the boss sends you to NYC so you have to give them up. If you do manage to catch the game on TV, cause that job thing doesn't get in the way, you're in the land of the enemy.
  25. EBay is fantastic. My brother worked 1 week/month in SF when Pac Bell was first built. He bought season tickets and auctioned off all those games when he was back here in Boston for just face value. Lots of deals like this are around. I use it a lot when I'm away on business.
