  1. I just heard he's not in his seat anymore. The Yankees saw him catch that ball and signed him to play centerfield. He'll come in as a defensive replacement for Melky Cabrera. A significant upgrade I believe.
  2. God bless Carl Everett. Breaking up that perfect game was the best thing he ever did for us.
  3. This will be fine. We'll just keep this pace win 32-16 .
  4. Get off your damn phones. All four people in the shot of the man who interfered were on their phone afterward.
  5. At this point he doesn't really have to do much to blow me away. He seems like the type of guy whose arm angle will confuse enough hitters to get outs and if he can keep his sinker in the bottom half of the strike zone then he'll be tough to make solid contact off of. Getting two relief pitchers (with Schilling) ought to really help out all around since the starters won't feel like they need to make it through the seventh and Timlin won't have to pitch every game.
  6. Just a stupid homer article for the Post probably the result of a few softball interview questions looking to stir up Sheff. Much more likely to sell papers than actually fire up the Yankees as a unit.
  7. Can't see Varitek saying this, but if he had it'd be an act of hubris just like it is when Sierra says it. I think that everyone knows or ought to know that both the Red Sox and Yankees have good stockpiles of talented players and who ever wins the division is going to have to earn it. If Varitek had said this however and the Red Sox won the division, odds are pretty good that you could look back and say he was a huge part of it on the field. If the Yanks win the division, I have a hard time believing we're going to sit back and say that Ruben Sierra was a key to them winning the division.
  8. Love Bellhorn or hate him. You gotta love being a part of a fan base that can generate 418 posts on the number nine hitter in your line up. Hell, that's almost twice Bellhorn's avg.
  9. I wonder how long it took for him to decide whether Bellhorn should get a K or a backwards K. Francona is a bit surprising. He has kept the boat from veering too far off course, but he's made a number of controversial decisions regarding playing time for Millar and sticking with Foulke in the closer's role among the two highest profile.
  10. Don't get too hard on ol' Ruben about semantic issues. He didn't after all specify first place in what! Payroll? I can guarantee a win there. Primadonnas? No one touches the Yankees. Perhaps he meant starting pitchers on the DL? The Yanks looking great to lead the league in those. Or maybe he was refering to obnoxious fans on the Talk Sox board? Once again the Yankees' territory hands down.
  11. I hope Rogers opts not to go and Timlin gets the spot. I don't think he's ever been an all star and at this stage of his career, I think it'd mean a lot to him.
  12. Yeah, but it's not like he signed on as a free agent. He was traded here from the Padres. I think he did a pretty good job acting professionally and the pressure just got to him. After all, he is in the middle of his career and if he's not playing, when he becomes a free agent he has no portfolio of work to shop himself around. It'd be different if he actually chose this situation or if he was late in his career like Olerud and had already made most of his money. How would you feel if your boss blocked your career because you never got an opportunity to show what you could do on a regular basis? You'd probably want to go someplace else
  13. What's more arrogant: talking trash about your rival amongst your own fan base or creating an account on your rivals site, baiting them and then calling them arrogant because they tell you what they think of you?
  14. Well since the trade still hasn't officially been announced, maybe the A's will back out of it. Or perhaps it might get reshuffled to include a third team that would eventually get Payton. Or maybe they just want to keep Payton as a backup despite his objections.
  15. I think in this case Payton forced the Red Sox hands. Apparently there was a blow up in the dugout between Payton and Francona over where Francona put Payton into the lineup as a defensive replacement. The trade has supposedly been in place for a while even before Wednesday, but it wont be made official until Bradford is off the DL. So designating Payton for assignment, the Sox made their side of the deal happen a few days earlier and were able to bring up Stern.
  16. Great idea. Let's have a SS who has won three consecutive gold gloves learn to play CF so we can please some Double A prospect. Wouldn't it make more sense for Hanley to learn a new position in the minors than for Edgar to change from a position where he's excelled at in the majors?
  17. Don't ask the question about whether or not we could have gotten better for Payton. Ask it like this, is the cost of relief pitching so high at this point that giving up Payton only gets you a guy recovering from two back surgeries? Imagine what you need to get a Wagner, Baez or Guardardo. Also, regards to the Bradford hard sinker at Fenway. I've always hated the sinker at Fenway because when it doesn't sink it generally goes a very long way. Look at Derek High and Deep. It seemed like every fly ball he gave up went out of the park.
  18. Not only was it one outing, but it was a rehab start in a non-save situation after Perez basically gave up the game. We all know that if Schilling was 100% healthy he'd be going into a starting role. The only reason he's looking towards the pen is that he thinks with the adrenaline of throwing only one inning he'll be able to pitch through the pain. We still have quite a few if's to go through before we put him in the pen, and him being healthy enough to throw one inning. Then we can decide if it was the right decision or not. Warming up wasn't a problem last night either. Schilling was throwing in the pen in the top of the eighth inning to get ready for the top of the ninth. He had already finished and put his jacket on while he watched the Pawsox give up four runs to blow the lead including balking home the tying run. If he wasn't warmed up, he had another fifteen minutes he could have thrown to get ready. Can't say I'd be 100% pumped to go into a game after having to sit through and watch that.
  19. Sean McAdam today is reporting that the Payton move had been planned for some time, but that the Red Sox needed to wait for Bradford to come off the DL. Payton forced the Red Sox hand on Wednesday night when he blew up at Tito in the dugout after being inserted as a defensive replacement for Damon in the sixth spot in the order (Millar's spot) with Olerud, a defensive replacement for Millar, going into the game in Damon's spot. Given the situation, it sounds like the team handled things right by DFAing Payton rather than keep him around the clubhouse while waiting for Bradford to get off the DL I could see one of the old regime making this thing into a bigger deal than it really is by keeping Payton around and either not playing him or doing something equally insulting to show him that they hold all the cards. Theo got Payton out of their before the press even had the story and did what is right for everyone all around. I think it's indicative of a gigantic difference in the way this team is run compared to teams of the past. With Myers and Bradford the Sox will have a lefty-righty one/two punch if the major leagues ever decides to abolish overhand pitching.
  20. You forgot to tell her to switch the safety off!? She's still posting.
  21. Schilling isn't even in the game. It's still the top of the 8th and the Pawsox are down 5-3.
  22. I don't think it's officially called. But there was standing water on the field when they called the delay. I'm not sure how long they'd wait.
  23. Wow balking home the tying run in Pawtucket. Rough night for the organization.
  24. On top of it, the score changed two seconds later. I say JetersWifey ought to be banned from the internet for it. Not just the website. The entire internet.
