1. So, Kennedy's lower risk is more valuable than Masterson's higher ceiling, but Tabata's higher ceiling is more valuable than Lowrie's reduced risk. Interesting how that works. It's like magic.
2. Horrible trade by the Mets. Milledge has a 'tude, but what he needed was playing time and some time to allow him to adjust to the level.
3. I'm sorry, I missed the rule change where players just have a batting practice challenge and no longer have to play defense. I'm not forgetting that those players can hit. I'm using a stat that considers total contribution. You are ignoring part of a player's value by focussing solely on the offensive side of the ball. Do I think he's worth his salary? Absolutely, he's a bargain with that kind of contribution. The question isn't whether Crisp or Ellsbury is preferable. That answer is universally agreed upon. But the notion that they are trying to "pawn" off Crisp goes back to the issue of ignoring his total contribution. Let me put it this way, when you say "pawn" off and suggest he's not worth his contract, then you must think there'd be no takers if he were placed on irrevocable waivers. That is folly. He'd be snatched up in heartbeat. Even by your Yankees, and Melky would find himself out of a job.
4. Well, then you join legion with a multitude of others who totally undervalue Crisp by looking at offense alone. He was 6 wins above replacement as a CF this year despite putting up average offensive numbers. Where's that rank? Granderson - 10.4 Ichiro - 8.7 Beltran - 8.4 Rowand - 7.8 Sizemore - 6.3 Pence - 6.2 (in 95 games, holy frijoles!) Those are who beat him in total value. Not a long list. You can't tell me you wouldn't want those close to him (Sizemore, BJ Upton, Torii Hunter) at only $5M per year. I suppose that "reliever" tag will stick to Masterson until he retires as a SP, and even then Jacko would still refer to him as such. Despite that opinion, nothing he's done in his performance or progression suggests he can't workout as a starter. Hagadone has a similar comment about him in his SR due him relieving in college. Dollars to donuts, he doesn't shed the tag all the way up the ladder. These types of comments never seem to die, no matter what a player is doing on the field. He's a starter until he isn't. I know that's a Berra-esque comment, but sometimes it is what it is.
5. I don't see where that has been proposed. By my reading, BSN07 is saying Coco + those names, which is too much for Haren, IMO. Now, if you are calling Lester, Masterson, and Bowden a bag of balls, that's another story, and one I think many will take issue with, myself included.
6. Easy now, I think some crack slipped into the pipe at the hash bar. I like Ellsbury, but he won't hit for the kind of power Sizemore or Beltran do. Those are the types of guys you draw a line on when talking about CFs. I'll take the best pitcher in baseball, even if it's only for 3-4 out of 6 years, for a guy who's ceiling is just below the elite (top 5) CFs in the game. Especially when there is a capable guy on the payroll to bridge the gap to the guys in the lower minors (Kalish and Place) whose tools are closer to those you mentioned.

So much for that Pack D. Did they lose the tape of the 'Skins game against the Cowboys when prepping for the game? If so, they need to figure out letting TO run free doesn't work.

I'd love to watch this game. f***ing NFL Network.
11. No Hughes in that rotation, though. But if Pettitte decides his next bag of oats comes from NY, then it's Santana/Pettitte/Wang/Joba. No thanks.
12. I think Lester is going to surprise you next year no matter where he's pitching. And you still haven't answered my question. Do you think Kennedy/Cabrera/Horne and Jackson or Tabata is enough?
13. But, but, but, he was hitting .300 before he wasn't.
14. Do you think it's enough? EDIT: Better yet, since Melky is in the talks at some level as well, remove Jackson or Tabata (your choice) and insert Melky. Is that enough?
15. The arm vs range equation isn't a wash though. The benefit of much better range pays more dividends than the benefit of a much better arm over a season. And let's be honest here, Melky will make the min for exactly one more year. After that he's in his arb years so the money side of it diminishes significantly. Also, the Twins do have a good looking CF prospect, name escapes me right now, who's about 2 years away. Coco fills the gap at a modest price and provides them the tools that fit the organizational philosophy better than Cabrera. The Twins value defense pretty high, and Coco rates well. Melky doesn't.
16. That's a strong offer, no matter what the Yankee spin-meister here says. It's a perfect fit for them in terms of what they need and just dealt away. What trumps the Yankee deal is the fact that they just traded away their SS, and the Yankees don't have a MIF with a projectable bat to offer. The '05 draft might have increased dividends. Nice.
17. If he's not in CF, he plays LF? Not with that arm. Nice try, roto.
18. Carter - He was one of the best catcher's of his era. When you state his numbers are comparable to "others", what position did the "others" play? What he did over his career as a catcher is pretty valuable. There are two with lower career OPS+ in the hall, kick them out first. McGinnity - Yes, it was just 9 years, but consider the era. He didn't get his start until 28, and at the time it was common for a minor league team to not sell the rights to a player to a major league club (there was no direct affiliation at the time). Lefty Grove was stuck in Baltimore as the best pitcher in baseball until he was 25. Also, his era was one of fewer strikeouts. He did, however win 63.4% of his games, with 246 wins in 9 seasons. Young pitched 21 seasons for 511. Prorate his out to 21 seasons, and you would be complaining that Beckett didn't win the AL McGinnity award. I'd remove someone like Ruffing, a guy who compiled numbers through longevity without ever being remarkably impressive. Rose - No, he broke the big rule. No exceptions. And, besides, it's not like he wouldn't be in if he were allowed. This isn't a case of him being "overlooked" by the voters. Lynn - If you are going to penalize McGinnity for being short on longevity, why does Freddy get a pass?
19. Homosayswhat? With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it's pretty easy to say he got fleeced there. Sheff played 133 games. Damon/Matsui/Giambi DH'd 137 games.
Who|OPS|HR Supersuck Trio|.729|18 Sheff|.840|25
In return they got a kid who needed TJ surgery and a throw in relief pitcher. Solid. Solid waste, that is.

Did something change? I thought the Championship game was one of those 4 bowl games, with it being on a 4-year rotation.
21. The period of rest is considered with the determination of the magnitude of X number of starts made.
