  1. How many of them were decisive calls? In my viewing experience, some umpires' 3-0 strikezone is 2x the size of their 0-2 strikezone. It's as if there is a bias of expectation. They expect nothing other than a strike at 3-0 and expect something out of the zone at 0-2. Anything within 4" of the border, either way, seems to get called regularly in accordance with what the expectation happens to be.
  2. And it wasn't even close. That pitch had to move a noticeable amount to even become borderline.
  3. Gameday shows it just inside of center and about 4" above the knee.
  4. The BS call on the 0-2 to Navarro hurts now.
  5. The hook was a strike.
  6. Unfair change to Navarro.
  7. He's throwing BB's late in the game, and that curve is a thing of beauty.
  8. I think this one is a keeper. Oh, and I watched Kennedy today. He flat out sucks. The catcher's glove was moving 8+ inches on over half his pitches, and he grooved 4 absolute meatballs in the 2nd to Sizemore, Hafner, and Martinez that got fouled off. His "so-so" performance today was shamrock central.
  9. Edwin Jackson has knock out stuff when he's locating. His problem is his command is streaky. Looks like he has it tonight.
  10. Buch's got his good stuff tonight. Little trouble locating early, but he's looking good.
  11. The Rays broadcast replayed the double play and Coco got bilked into sliding by Bartlett acting like a throw was incoming. My problem with that is the contact came well before he started the slide. Is he deaf?
  12. Dorf on Baseball rules.
  13. I like my 'Skins move to drop down and get additonal picks. Nice to see them finally address the receiving corps with a first day pick too.
  14. Domination from Bowden today vs. Binghamton. 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K Brought his season ERA down to 3.70.
  15. Jax moves up to #8.
  16. NE commits the first trade. No surprises thus far.
  17. Just noticed that about the starting time. Didn't it always start at 12? f***in' ESPN. That's what I get for not paying much attention until today. C'est la vie.
  18. It begins in a little over 2 hours. Who goes first? If I'm Miami, I take Jake Long and then a QB in round 2. That is, of course, unless I can move down and get more picks this year.
  19. It was Varitek who looks like he's been s***ing through a straw for a week. He hadn't reached 3B by the time the throw from right hit the cutoff man. No way he gets sent there.
  20. I don't care what most managers would do. Tito played it by the contemporary ******** bullpen usage book, and that strategy is mightily flawed. Guess who that book has pitching the 9th if we have a 3 run lead tomorrow with the bottom of their order up? We saved our best BP arm for that? Nonsense. I recall the long affair in Chicago. What I find funny is that you are complaining about using Seanez after the 'pen was used up then, but you want to use this year's Seanez earlier in the game (Timlin '08 = Seanez '06 - the ability to get K's).
  21. Plenty of guys had a chance to win this game, but this loss belongs to Francona. The stupidity of adhering to the contemporary "save your closer for the lead" ******** is how they ended up having one their worst relievers in against a good hitter with elite speed and a catcher who looks like death warmed over. This game was over as soon as Crawford got on base, and there are only two guys in the bullpen who are unlikely to let him get on. But they can't pitch without the "lead". f***ing idiotic.
  22. Crawford against Timlin. I don't like this. And, with how Tek looks, if he gets on, he's on 3rd within 3 pitches.
  23. Brutal. He's so lost at the plate right now.
