  1. Pretty sure there's a common denominator to those threads.
  2. I would say it has worked. They are a constant fixture in the playoffs. Anything can happen in a short series, especially in a sport where the most successful teams only win about 60% of the time. Eventually, they'll win in the postseason again if they keep getting there.
  3. There absolutely should be a cap. Yeah, yeah, it's business, but the business is a sport too. Sports, in every sane person's mind, are played a level playing field. There's nothing level about the current system. Of course, the only way to level it is to expand revenue sharing, and with expanded revenue sharing there should be floor.
  4. I agree. That's why I thought he was a perfect fit as a bench coach for the Yankees.
  5. You would, you faggot asslicker.
  6. Look, I'm sorry you missed the lesson on connecting the dots in kindergarten, but you really should have sought remediation there. Follow this (if you can)..... Look at what the BP stat is used for in its definition. It is a production rate used in a system to determine comparable players. Since you seem to have some difficulty with vocabulary too, I'll put that in layman's terms, oops that was too big a word for you, I'll break it down Barney style. What that means is that it is a percentage (rate) used to do exactly what you were doing upthread, comparing players. So, in other words, BP, a site at the forefront of modern baseball statistical analysis, uses K/PA rather than K/AB when doing exactly what you were doing earlier, which is what I said to begin with. The fact that you missed this and had to have it explained to you is totally unsurprising and hilarious at the same time.
  7. From the definition: Strikeout Rate (K) is one of five primary production metrics used by PECOTA in identifying a player's comparables. It is defined as SO/PA. Where does this disagree with what I said? Read much?
  8. Baseball Prospectus and common sense disagree. Since you lack the latter, I suggest you read more of the former.
  9. Just because fangraphs is stupid too doesn't excuse you in my book. Think, if you are capable, about what this information tells you. It doesn't tell how often a player strikes out, it tells you how often a player strikes out when they don't BB, HBP, IBB, or SF. It adds a qualifier, or caveat, that requires additional information for the first piece of information to be meaningful.
  10. Not when the team is buying out some of his arb years that will be discounted relative to the market. He should only get as much (or more) than Rodriguez when it's an apples to apples comparison.
  11. Where'd you get 37.3%? Actually, I know where you got it. You took his K's and divided by AB's, which, unsurprisingly, is wrong. K% is how often a player strikes out. AB's don't represent all plate appearances, so your numbers (for all those players) are overstated. Carry on with the dipshittery.
  12. This proves something? Why he never got a shot before this past Semptember appears to be a scouting blunder. His performance, at least in terms of OBP and the ability to move runners has been consistently good throughout the minors. Why Cleveland didn't try him out with the parade of suck they've had at corner OF spots isn't really something I care about.
  13. I, for one, find it a bit inconsistent when on the one hand I see someone suggesting maybe the Yankees would be better off without ARod despite his transcendent talent because of the distraction he represents, while on the other I see the same person take the position that the Sox should just learn to deal with Manny because of, well, his transcendent talent. Distractions are either real and something to avoid, or they are baloney and something to be unconcerned about. Whichever it is, I hope they are the same regardless of which team / player is being considered.
  14. Is this an honest question, or does your love of your team rob you of any critical thought? You can't think of any players who let substance abuse get in the way of their career? Did you start watching baseball last week?
  15. Is there any scenario or bit of news, ever, that doesn't bode poorly for the Sox in your mind? Bizarre outcome to Beckett's offseason training program yields massive improvements in arm strength and 120 mph fastballs. That extra velocity will affect his command in a bad way. I expect him to struggle this year. /jacko Sox learn secrets to obtaining clairvoyance, expect hitters to know what's coming and the defense to be in position to make every play. They'll become so concerned with bigger issues that they forget to show up to the ballpark and have to forfeit every game. /jacko Henry visited by Morgan Freeman God character and named 'Henry Almighty' for 2009 baseball season while being granted divine power. Henry will realize how (you know what's coming folks, chime in together) 'good it is for the game of baseball if the Yankees are successful' that he'll make sure they win. /jacko Don't try and take this innocuous statement and try and turn it into something it isn't. He was candid and admitted to what only a liar would deny, that there was an emotional component to his reaction about potentially being traded from a team where he is happy. He also treated it like an adult by stating he realizes that's the nature of the business and he'd be ready to play regardless. How about you treat the situation like an adult too?
  16. Wah, somebody took me to task on the nonsense I post! I know what I'll do, call him names, that will show him. WINNAR!
  17. You realize how stupid it sounds to have these two things in the same post, right?
  18. ORS = Lugo Super Twitch Funds will be enroute this weekend.
  19. I don't disagree, RC. I was just adding to what Jacko said in response to Bobby Jr's deficient point about expecting his performance to drop off to 50% after he "quits".
  20. If Canseco saying you did steroids hasn't reached the level of "proof" yet, then the definition of proof must have changed. Canseco was ridiculed for his claims in his books, but he's been vindicated as more information comes out. His word is like gospel on the subject, and he says he stuck McGwire himself. If that isn't "proof", then there never will be.
  21. Got a lot on my plate right now. I know the role of commish is pretty hands off in general, but I'd just as soon someone else do it this year. You can count me in to play and participate, though. And, I'll chip in for the premium league.
  22. I disagree about this team being a typical Duke team of the last 2-3 years. Those teams relied more on 1 or 2 players, whereas this team gets more contribution from different parts. You are right in that they lack an inside presence, though.
