  1. A perfect sendoff to Roger's career, ending it full circle in Boston. Theo's the man to get it done, cmon the guy brought us our ace in Schilling who helped salvage the ALCS and then was able to bring back together the Coco Crisp trade when all reports were that the deal was just about dead. IMO Roger would be more productive if he came to Boston than Ameriquest Field. He of course knows the division and ballpark, but what really sticks out is the fact of how many balmy 100+ degree games happen at Ameriquest. That factor mixed with Rog's age this season dont go well together. Minute Maid Park, it wasnt an issue because of the roof. Im sure any manager would be cautious giving the ball to a 43 year old pitcher whose had some back issues on a 100-105 degree day, even if it is the great Rocket.
  2. sorry about that, i was just trying to point out sometimes you can find a steal. Good luck on the ticket shopping
  3. it might be a shot in the dark, but a good last resort is always ebay. I got my majority of 05 tickets through there, you can get lucky sometimes. One in particular I had paid $100 for 2 tickets to Sox/Yanks game in July, the only win in that series but a good win that saw Boston beat up on NY again 17-1. It also featured the unexpected 3-run inside the parker by Trot . More to my enjoyment was that I paid just $100 for 2 tickets for front row seats in the right field box seats. I actually was resting my arm on the Fisk Pole, and looking into the bullpens 15/20 feet away. Take a look if not able to get anything going, with you in the waiting room right now.
  4. That would be a nice cap off to the offseason. Its looking like it will be during Spring Training that Wells will be dealt off to interested teams who will be desperate for starting pitching, in come prospects. A trade of Matt Clement also cant be ruled out as of yet. If at all possible, it would be a great thing if Roger's first game were to be May 1 (notably Damon's return to Fenway).
  5. Thank you on giving us the lowdown. Sox do win out here considering they have acquired an outfielder that is improving his game each season (offense/defense), and is just 26. Lets just wait until Marte is fully a starter in the majors, which is so far looking like 2007 as Cleveland will have him in Triple A for this season. Riske is an improvement over Mota. How is that not clear? It has also been noted that the Sox are going to have Riske in the middle relief role. They can leave the close late innings to Julian Tavarez, Rudy Seanez, Mike Timlin, maybe Papelbon and a more in focus Foulke. No injury questions, such as what has been surrounding Mota. Has proven himself in the AL. 3 consecutive seasons of ERAs under 4, and WHIP of under 1.
  6. To all who were against trading Shoppach, wasnt trading him close to 100% possible and most talked about for the longest time? The guys is close to major league ready but has varitek blocking him for the next 3 seasons, and him being 25 is not fair to Kelly. I'll wager he will be traded again as a chip to another team who actually is in need of a starting catcher, as Victor Martinez is primed to be a cornerstone of that team. Two words: Jonathan Egan. He was drafted last season and will start in Lowell this April. He has been projected by several scouts as a power hitting catcher, very solid defensively with a Yadier-Molina type throwing arm to nail runners down. ---------------- Besides that, as you can see from my avatar I'm plain and simple ecstatic about this acquisition. Like someone had said before, he fits the "dirt dog" mentality and cares 100% about baseball, organization and city he plays for, especially the fans. Mota or Riske, for me its hands down Riske. Yea sure his K's were down last season but still compiled a 3.10 ERA in 73 innings and a 0.95 WHIP. He's also got what I eblieve could be the best infield defense of the AL East to back him up.
  7. youre looking at overall OBP, its evident each season he has been on the uptick, and still is just 26. The last 2 seasons were his first playing full time, so thats another important factor. As for OBP, I have stated and feel he could break .355 for his debut season in Boston. 2002- 32 games 1 HR, 9 RBIs--.260 avg--.314 OBP 2003- 99 games 3 HRs, 27 RBIs--.266 avg--.302 OBP 2004- 139 games 15 HRs, 71 RBIs--.297 avg--.344 OBP 2005- 145 games 16 HRs, 69 RBIs--.300 avg--.345 OBP ------ true but what favors Crisp is that he bodes a .380 avg when swinging on the first pitch
  8. As it stands, I doubt the PTBNL is anyone really high on our list as Manny D has been ruled out
  9. now thats going a little farther from the truth, from what ive heard he still has an edge over damon's arm scouting report
  10. Last I checked, Seattle had stepped up offers of asing for a deal of Papelbon or Lester for Reed & Gil Meche. Cant say that wouldve been the better deal at all. And about his D, note he's moving to a much smaller park for half of season and check back with me if you can on how coco's stats have been each continuing season. At 26, his stats and experience will be on the uptick, unlike Damon whose defensive stats will take a hit playing in the vast center field of yankee stadium. His offense will also take a hit compared to the past couple of seasons. Crisp can hit leadoff, has a better arm than what we're used to, steal 15-25 bases, 100+ Runs scored, .315+/- avg, .355+/- OBP, 20+/- HRs, 75+ RBIs --- Besides that, as it stands right now this deal works out better for the Sox in the 2006 season
  11. no offense, I dont really think they will start him off in Pawtucket
  12. dont forget about Papelbon in the mix of the staff
  13. a 4th player wont be added unless Mota lands on the DL for a considerable amount of time, the Sox can push this aside and tackle it when or if it happens
  14. As it stands right now, he's not. Which is what Im hoping for as well. MLB.com is reporting the Sox will be offering a prospect or cash considerations (please cash) if Mota goes on the DL. EDIT: heres the link http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060127&content_id=1302026&vkey=hotstove2005&fext=.jsp
  15. you have to give it to the Red Sox org. After this offseason of many leaks regarding negotiations made it to the public made things harder on Boston., such as theo's contract discussions at the end of last October. They were able to salvage the deal and keep it quiet for the time being
  16. The deal is about to be announced, for now that is...
  17. If Schilling is on the mound for Johnny's first at bat, watch him protest the game until Fenway gives Johnny a fake applause. Im sorry but I got tix for that game and I need to vent my aggression thats been building up since late December. Its not that left Boston, its who he left to. Sure Pedro left for more money and a New York team, but unlike Johnny he will get an uproarious standing ovation.
  18. The Sox have also acquired former Padre lefty relief pitcher, Craig Breslow who just made his major league debut. A good one too, 14 Ks in 16.1 innings and a 2.20 ERA. In that span he helf lefties to an 0.63 avg http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  19. haha wow i go to sleep early because i have work at 6 in the morning and i come to find chock full of fight pages in that "certain thread". Ive got no beef with them to post, except that Walrus guy, but cmon you know way to much about porn movies, thats kind of sad. Sure the girls are hot, but considering the # of guys and STD tests they go through. I wouldnt touch them with a 10 feet pole.
  20. 2005 season, even though having a bad .217 avg while hitting 17 HRs--He still had a .274 avg & .350 OBP when facing lefties
  21. According to rotoworld, the Red Sox have signed former Rockie Dustin Mohr to a minor league contract. He could become the team's 4th outfielder/platoon partner with Trot as rotoworld has suggested. If that were true, I believe its now best to trade away Tony G. He's my boy, but damn he deserves his playing time.
  22. All I can say is huh?? 3rd base- 2 gold glover Mike Lowell, just recently won the 05 shortstop- Alex Gonzalez is nearing a contract with Boston, and he has been rated one of te best defensive shortstops in baseball 2nd base- Mark Loretta has never been one to be error prone 1st base- Kevin Youkilis has played during his time at 1st, and now has 6 gold glover JT Snow to back him up Hardly the worst, Its looking so far it could conetnd to be the best of at least the division
  23. This is what the Guardians and Phillies had agreed to do, not exactly how the Sox trade would be. IMO expect Phillies to ask a lot more than just a reliever if the Crisp trade falls through and the Sox are thrust back into "panic mode"
  24. here's something info to back you up ksushi, this is coming from Chris Snow of the Boston Globe
  25. It sounds like the Red are back in the fray, with Clement possibly going to Cincinatti. Theo is not backing off this deal. When he wants a guy to play for Boston, he goes for them hard. The only things troubling, theyre now talking a 9 player swap. And the fact that the Guardians have their eye on a prospect, and its not Manny D.
