  1. Not surprised at all that catcher John Otness isnt in here. Ive seen him in several games up in Portland, quickly gave him the nickname of "Butterfingers". He also displayed bad batting skills. Just something thats been on my mind for the past week Moving on. Scaff, what are your thoughts on Portland fan favorite Iggy Suarez? I say fan favorite becase he gets the most cheers when he is playing in the game. Obviously if he makes the majors it will just be as a utility infielder
  2. Too bad sooo sad. Yanks have to turn to the bullpen for 6 innings of work!
  3. Im not counting out the Yankees just yet but as others have said, it would take a monument slump for them to take back 1st place. Just dont get swept this series is all I ask
  4. Mussina hurt by Abreu's bad read on the flyball, its now 6-0
  5. 5-0 now. Candidates to step in will be Rasner, Igawa and Ian Kennedy
  6. Mussina tonight is pitching to stay in the rotation. So far it doesnt look like he will. Moving to the bullpen would be completely new territory, he has never pitched in relief in the bigs
  7. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7160596 Long time coming, though they still have the onwer Drayton McClane around
  8. Yea Ozzie ok. Umm yea I dont remember saying "Well we got swept by the Yankees in a 5 game series at home, but we took the last 4 games from them in 2004."
  9. Still coming from the same guy who predicted ---Sox would finish in 3rd place, 86-76. Theres even a thread on that ---His recent rants (hasnt lived up to doing wrong yet) about the road trip the Sox are currently on. Tampa takes 2 out of 3, he wouldnt have been surprised if they swept Boston. I also liked him calling the Sox, pathetitic sticks
  10. Back around the All-Star Break I figure the Red Sox to end with a 95-67 record. At this point they would just have to go 15-16 to get to that mark. It would have to take one hell of a slump for the Sox to lose their grip on the AL East
  11. Dont give up on the kid so early. Good deal of great pitchers didnt do so hot their first go around. Greg Maddux had a 6+ ERA for example
  12. What a game, what a series, what a month this has been for the Sox. They are now 15-9 in the month of August, and 25-12 in their last 37 games. Tavarez stepped up big again, and Kielty is looking more and more like a bat you want off of the bench. I am psyched for the Sox/Yanks series. I'll be sitting in left field for game 1 Updated batter vs pitcher matchups for the heck of it Tavarez this season on the road in 18 games, 5-4 with a 4.88 ERA Vazquez this season vs Boston in 2 games, 1-1 with a 6.69 ERA. At home in 13 games, 6-5 with a 3.70 ERA
  13. Just Win Wakefield this season vs Chicago in 1 game, 1-0 with a 5.68 ERA. On the road in 12 games, 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA Buehrle this season at home in 14 games, 4-5 with a 3.81 ERA
  14. The Yankees see the first Sox game, done 11-3. They get prepared for their game, 4 hour rain delay stops them. To bide their time they root for the White Sox to beat the Red Sox in game 2. Boston takes a score of 10-1, Done. Yankees go 11 innings into the early morning just to have a walkoff homerun end the long grueling night. Result 6.5 games back
  15. Why would the Sox have a platoon of 2 lefty 1st baseman? If Carter and Hinske are indeed on board, it should be Carter's everyday job elsrbueno, if trades/waivers have failed in the past, why think positively that he will be moved this coming offseason? 2008 will be his last season as a Red Sox, regardless if Arod signs on board. Yes theyll have to deal with both Manny and Arod on the books but its just for 1 damn year. A 3-4-5 of Arod/Ortiz/Manny yes please Sox will not, I repeat not, sign Posada (age 36) to a contract when they already have Varitek on the books. It would cause serious disruption in the clubhouse, Varitek is a much respected catcher for handling this pitching staff. So Posada becomes the starter, Varitek is the backup catcher with Wakefield possibly still on the staff next year... ooh Im getting giddy now
  16. Yesss a DH sweep makes the record 78-51, season high 27 games above .500 Just got home, posting stats for the hell of it. They have been updated from tonights kick ass game. The offense despite the brain fart in game 3 against the D-Rays has just been rolling along since the Angels series. With each start Schilling makes, he gets closer to his reliable self. Search party still going on for Gom? Since his rant the Sox will have been 4-1 in that stretch. Doesnt look like theyll get in the game tonight for the Yankees, so the Sox will begin tomorrow with at least a 6 game lead Schilling this season on the road in 10 games, 5-4 with a 3.77 ERA
  17. The brilliance of Francoma's use of the bullpen. Lets put the closer in with a large lead in game 1 of the double header. He really wants to give Gagne a save chance
  18. WC Standings 8/24 Seattle 72 53 .576 - NY Yankees 71 56 .559 2.0 Detroit 68 59 .535 5.0 Oakland 65 64 .504 9.0 Minnesota 64 63 .504 9.0 Toronto 64 63 .504 9.0 Seattle's next 3 games Felix Hernandez vs Kevin Millwood Horacio Ramirez vs Jaret Wright Jarrod Washburn vs Vicente Padilla
  19. why not have the DH tomorrow, blah the game will most likely be almost over when I get home from work
  20. Just f***ing win, you f***ers Beckett this season vs Chicago in 1 game, 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA. On the road in 9 games, 8-1 with a 1.65 ERA
  21. http://www.bradfordfiles.com/?p=170 Lester has been demoted to Double A Portland while Javier Lopez has been promoted to Boston. Tavarez will rejoin the rotation until next month when Lester returns. Lopez will be up in time for the Yankee series Other news the sox have signed Royce Clayton to a minor league deal, he'll join the Pawtucket Sox
