  1. To be fair... he is. Turner would be a starter on a lot of teams too. 14-3. Chargers are really controlling the play so far.
  2. Scenario... Peyton Manning has a WR running wide open down the sideline 40 yards down field and there's nobody in Peyton's face. How many times out of one-hundred does Peyton Manning miss that throw? Maybe twice. Why is it that the Ravens just didn't execute while the Colts are flawed? Maybe both teams played defenses that are playing great football. The Colts are playing more aggressive defense and are doing it with a lot more control. If the Ravens caught a ball there was a Colt right there to put a hat on him. And if it's so likely for their defense to snap out of their hot streak... what's to stop their offense from breaking loose?
  3. But the two that I can think of with him and Peyton are good. The Sportscenter one and then the one with Archie too where they keep huddling up. Don't remember what the second one is for. Either way... Peyton Manning's commercials are hilarious.
  4. Two missed, extremely makable FG's by Vanderjagt and the game was in Foxboro. You know you can't expect Vinatieri to miss those FG's. I know it technically wasn't 13, but winning by 13 on the road is impressive. Like SOTK said... and he's my favorite because he's realistic... what have you done against Peyton since Ty Law left that makes you think you can stop the Colts? They ran all over your defense. Another problem is that Tom Brady apparently suddenly feels the need to keep up with Peyton and forces balls against the Colts like he doesn't against any other team. It's strange, really. If the Colts do make the Super Bowl, I hope that Peyton appears in, like, seven Super Bowl commercials. I want it to be all Peyton all the time!
  5. Do they get bonus points for that? Automatically start at 7-0 Patriots or something because of Brady's past? What was his playoff record going into the Broncos game last year? Okay, now what did that do for ya? I'm not saying that the Patriots can't score... but you won't have the conditions to stop Peyton this time.
  6. If I'm a Colts fan, I'd rather my team win games like this than the game against KC a few years ago when neither team punted. This defense is starting to look good... real good. I think the ends stopped trying to get up field every possession. Also, the Colts offense didn't look great but I didn't think they looked all bad. They played a team that had 60 or so sacks this season and Peyton wasn't on his ass at all hardly. Peyton showed some mobility, too. He only took off and ran once but his ability to step up, take a few steps to the side to avoid a rusher and even throw on the run was impressive. I said a few weeks ago that I think this is the Colts year. Teams have been getting sucked into the trap that they can just run the ball all day long. Didn't really happen to day since that's how the Ravens offense is. And RSR... the Colts beat the Patriots pretty handily... I would hope that you fear them. You no longer own Peyton and if you play 'em, the game won't be in the elements. It'll be in the facility and conditions that this team is built to excel in. Peyton had some picks but both of them were just try and get the ball down field on third down situations. It's expected against the Ravens because they come with formations on defense that nobody else uses. I like the Colts, to be honest. Their defense and offensive line has seemed to embrace the underdog role.
  7. Good stuff. Can't really disagree with any of it! I think it's hard to call Eli Manning a bust at this point, though. First off, they took my least favorite approach -- throwing him into the fire extremely early in his career as opposed to letting him sit back and learn -- and second that he did show some progress, but he did regress this year. He's gotten into the terrible habit of throwing the ball up towards the middle of the field to nobody in particular... he's got to shake that for sure.
  8. Sam Bowie? I'd say no because who from that 2004 draft would be the 'Michael Jordan', or even the 'Hakeem Olajuwan'? Plus, Eli has shown flashes of being a good QB. I don't think he's going anywhere under Coughlin but if you get the right guy in there he could be very good. Tim Couch is a far worse number one pick than Eli. And Ryan Leaf at number two was probably the worst ever. Bowie wasn't terrible. He could've been a good player if not for injuries as I understand it. The number two and three picks are the only reason we remember him as one of the biggest busts ever.
  9. I don't know that we can beat Dallas or San Antonio in a series. I think we can beat Phoenix just because of how we've played them in the past few years without AI, but I certainly wouldn't put money on it. People forget about JR Smith, too. He was a great pickup for giving up absolutely nothing and he's the type of player that needs space to work... imagine how much space he'll have with AI and Melo taking all the attention. People talk about the 'Melo/AI dynamic in terms of how they should be able to feed off of one another and the looks they'll be getting defensively because of one another, but I really look forward to how JR Smith responds. He's been awesome this year with bad shot selection... imagine him getting more and more open looks. Anybody who's kept up with this thread should know that I'm just happy to see Earl Boykins gone.
  10. Who wouldn't? That guys is gooood. I'm not so sure the Broncos go CB in the first round. We still have Domonique Foxworth, whom I've always thought was the better of the two anyways. Besides, Foxworth and Williams were second and third rounders. I don't see how the Broncos can pass on a DE that can get to the QB. I'd love it if Dwayne Jarrett happened to fall to the Broncos -- give Cutler some more weapons since Rod Smith isn't getting it done anymore.
  11. Fire him now is what I would have expected. Make a run at, like, Mike Sherman or somebody. Tom Coughlin has been a failure since day one. He's never had the team... there were problems from the start, initially with his 'Coughlin Standard Time'. Eli Manning has regressed and there was entirely too much turmoil in that lockerroom.
  12. Praise the lord! Considering how badly my sports world fell apart for a little while there, it's coming back together quite nicely! But still, just Steve Blake? I wouldn't do Earl Boykins alone for Steve Blake, let alone Earl Boykins and then some. Then again, it's not like Julius Hodge plays. Eh, I'm just glad Bad Earl's gone!
  13. Dwight Howard is ridiculous. 30 points, 25 rebounds tonight. Six 20-20 games in his career already. I would dare say four or five of them have been this year.
  14. Interesting! Then yeah, good move by the Chargers. I file it under being if they need it to be an all Chargers crowd as much as this makes it seem like they do... then they have bigger problems.
  15. I'm loving it! I'm sick of a complete lack of adjustments at halftime.
  16. How can the Giants justify giving Tom Coughlin a one year extension with what happened to that team? That team fell apart and he lost them a long time ago. That appears to have been destined for failure since day one. I guess he convinced them that he could improve Eli Manning... but Eli's only regressed under Coughlin.
  17. That was before the BCS, though. Florida needed to beat Florida State, but they also needed Ohio State to beat Arizona State. Had Florida State won, they'd have been National Champions. Had Florida State lost and Arizona State won, Arizona State would've been National Champions.
  18. I guess they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Pretty damn good idea if you ask me but I'm sure the NFL will have a rule about it soon enough. Good thinking Chargers... but I'm sure you guys have a better read on this than I do... were there a lot of Patriots fans expecting to travel to San Diego?
  19. Shanahan is fine. His QB's since Elways departure have been Brian Griese, Gus Frerotte, Bubby Brister, and Jake Plummer. There's probably some others I'm forgetting but whatever, not a list that's going to get it done. Even then, the Broncos have had, what, one losing season since Elway left? Bellichick's a great coach... eh? What has he ever done without Brady? 36-44 in Cleveland. If you look back and read what I've said, Coyer was the reason for the defenses collapse in my opinion. Teams found out how to move the ball on the Broncos defense and Coyer never made adjustments. There was a lot of games where the Broncos defense was great in the first half, and the other team would make adjustments and Coyer wouldn't and they got torched in the second half. He's a great teacher but he's a terrible play caller. There were times where he had Lynch playing in coverage and, I think, Sam Brandon blitzing and run stopping. Lynch is terrible in coverage and the strength of his game is blitzing and run stopping. There was a lot of flaws in his gameplan. He treated Darrent Williams like he was Champ Bailey and he put hm in positions to get beat. He played him eight yards off the line when all it takes is a double move to beat Darrent when he's playing that deep. The team should be good with Cutler next year when he has an entire off-season to work with the first team.
  20. The Jets front 7 also consists of Jonathon Vilma and nobody else noteworthy. It's easy to have great chemistry with your recievers when you're just playing catch. I hate Merriman... he's a cheater... he shouldn't be eligible for any awards and all that junk... but the guy is an absolute animal. He's been better since he came back from his suspension. He will be in Tom Brady's face all game. Something that the Jets were not able to do at all. The Chargers will get to you... their front 7 is too damn good. And even then, their secondary is better than the Jets. Now let's be real. The only impressive game of the last four that you mentioned was against Jacksonville. The rest were against teams with piss poor secondaries. Sure... 7-1 on the road. Now how many of those games were against playoff teams? Huh? Only the Jets game in week two or three. Besides, that whole 7-1 thing isn't so impressive when you're opponent went 8-0 at home and 14-2 total, eh?
  21. Eh, Boise State would get destroyed (or badly beaten, anyway) by Florida, OSU, Michigan, LSU, or USC. They needed OT and some trick plays to beat Oklahoma and I wouldn't say that Oklahoma was near as good as any of the teams I mentioned. Anyways... I picked Florida to win but... wow.
  22. Yeah but it's better to be a great college coach than a pretty good NFL coach, which is where Saban pretty much stands right now since he's not even at .500 with the Dolphins and his teams have made runs when there season was already over. I think this situation is identical to Pete Carrolls.
  23. It's a tragedy. Twenty-four years old and so much potential in life. By all accounts Darrent Williams was an incredible person and his death is a shame. I wish others would look at this and change the way they handle themselves and where they find themselves at three in the morning following a game but if they haven't yet, it's not very realistic for me to expect this to change anything.
