  1. Let's invest them in a ROTH IRA!! Yah!!
  2. If yankee fans had any dignity they wouldn't leave Yankee stadium to the Sox fans to embarassingly chant "let's go Red sox" like the Sox were at home. Perhaps there is an angry group of Sox fans carrying burning torches and a copy of "Dirty Water" up to the PA booth.
  3. I actually meant the occasionally annoying ones who got into an argument with me on Sunday night that when Posada and Matsui were back then this would be a REAL lineup and DiceK would get shelled. They're not here. I actually like Jacksonianmarch, but the argument was heated and seems to have been settled this evening.
  4. And like 4 bunt base hits, right? I mean, I'm all for mixing 'stats' with 'scouts', and i think it is only fair to do so here as well. He hasn't been stinging the ball all over the park, he's been bunting and hitting bouncing balls through the infield (mixed with a few nice hits). 6 games shouldn't prove anything one way or the other in my opinion.
  5. NICE!!! The Sox knock out Mariano in a NON save situation. Perhaps he'll come over and pitch some simulated games/batting practice next spring training, just so we can get our new guys a few more good looks at him. THIS IS WEIRD TO WATCH.
  6. I'm just giving you some props YOTN.
  7. Beckett appears to be laughing at Rivera, or perhaps the yankees suckitude. Where ARE those yankee fans?
  8. On a good team they are both useful. This is a good team. Ergo, they are both useful. I don't know why this is an either-or type argument. The fact that WMP is better--if this conversation is based at all around Ellsbury's impending Soxness--is a likely reason for him to NOT play for the Sox an dto get traded. He's more valuable as a trading piece. Likewise, I think Coco is more valuable as a 4th OF and legs off the bench.
  9. You're bringing all the smilies with you huh kyahbean? You're clearly purple with excitement.
  10. As coco drives in a run. My thing is that I like both of them. A player who has better numbers in some areas than another player isn't objectively a better player. Guys have different roles and different talents which are unique. That's the great thing about this game.
  11. I hate the mid-inning deuce. I wait all day for a sox game and then I feel bad if it needs to be a 'relaxor' deuce, I'm always feeling hurried. At those times i think to myself "at least I'm not at Fenway"
  12. You know that this doesn't prove most of the time. It does prove that players who fans and scouts widely believe to be great fielders are backed up by the metric used for FRAA. You put some data in, and it popped out something good. That's science for ya. Uhhh, you can't? s***. Did I die and I'm in heaven or what? I've watched probably 85% of the games (maybe 40% with my wife--godbless her soul). I probably need to get a life, huh?
  13. Ummm, Coco uses a nicer glove?? :dunno: Diving catches mean nothing. Anyone remember the play last year where, if i remember correctly, Coco basically climbed the wall for a ball that landed 20 feet away on the warning track? I believe that lost the game. I think they are both prone to bad mistakes. I think Crisp is more likely to make up for them with a spectacular play, and come out even (if you're thinking hockey-type +/-). Again, though, neither is a true CF and only one of them has the power for a corner OF position. In CF I would want Coco, everywhere else I want Pena.
  14. How the f*** did he get a hit against the shift? Damn.
  15. Oh, okay. I don't think it is either, but I also don't think it is as wide as the +9/-20 split indicates. I would think it more like +12/+3 (crisp/pena respectively). I think it is a significant difference but not a devistating one for Pena's abillity to play CF. His power trumps any skill that crisp has, but I like crisps other tools better.
  16. I've seen the numbers, and I largely agree with them--in terms of their difference between positions. However, I don't think the CF number for either seems accurate. I would be willing to bet, after having watched nearly every red sox game for the past 4-5 years, that Crisp and Pena are AT LEAST equal in CF and over the long run I'm betting that Coco chases down and catches more balls than Pena. Pena often looks very uncomfortable out there. I would be interested to see how he does in LF. In any case, I don't think there's ANY doubt about Ellsbury's skills as a CFer. EDIT: before anyone is a smart ass, I realize the Sox haven't had Coco and Pena for 4-5 years. I was simply implying that, while stats count happenings in a game, they are used because most scouts don't watch every game to get a better idea of who the player is. That's all.
  17. "lined by the dive of Rodriguez" What a night for Lugo.
