  1. Yeah but I don't really consider him an integral part of that championship, he was more of a bit player. But he was a huge part of the success in 2007.
  2. He will always be one of my favorite players. I can't even really explain why, I just loved Youk. Thanks for the memories, and the championship.
  3. Yeah, in the same way I'm "looking" at Natalie Portman. From afar, with no chance.
  4. An apt analogy, as Chevy Chase is usually escorted out by armed guards when he shows up anywhere these days. Does anyone have an opinion on this Moncada guy? Is he really supposed to be this good?
  5. Well done. That was YOTN-worthy, if I do say so myself. Dark, subtle, and funny.
  6. And even the latter is optional, as evidenced by the corpse of CC Sabathia being dragged out to the mound every fifth day to pitch four innings before getting shelled.
  7. Except when a vending machine refuses to take the only dollar bill you have in your wallet. But yeah, that and preventable deaths.
  8. It's okay, I'm probably going to hang myself sometime in the next few months, so there's that.
  9. Barry Zito is still around? I assumed he was playing cards on a beach somewhere with Brandon Webb and Johan Santana.
  10. Oh, joy. I missed these interactions between the three of you. Almost as much as I miss the ulcer I had, or new Dane Cook material.
  11. And just like that, all of my sympathy for him vanishes.
  12. Hey, if your attempts at trolling have been reduced to reminding us that both the Red Sox and the Giants have won more World Series in the last 14 years than the Yankees and expecting that to knife right into our hearts, I'll take that any day. I don't give the most microscopic s*** about how many World Series San Francisco has won. The only two things I truly care about in the end are the World Series the Red Sox win and the ones that the Yankees don't, because the sweet, delicious tears of Yankees fans are the only things better than 69ing on top of a pile of hundred-dollar bills with a woman who tastes like bacon. Yeah, I wanted KC to win, as a baseball fan. But I'm not a KC fan so I'm not losing any sleep over it. The Giants winning again is just...boring to me. I care about them winning only insofar as it relates to the Red Sox NOT winning, which is disappointing to me. I understand intellectually that the Sox can't win every year, so the Giants "tying" the Sox's record since 2000 doesn't bother me at all.
  13. I must say, watching Peavy fall completely the f*** apart from the other side is much more entertaining.
  14. Plus, those f***ing glasses. Can you imagine having to look at that guy in the dugout all season? He looks like the kind of guy who makes everyone at the convenience store late for work while he argues with the manager about the lack of organic options.
  15. Thus ends game 3. Kansas City did more than just go up 2-1, they completely altered the momentum of this series. Even tied at one game apiece, it seemed like Kansas City was playing defense against a more experienced postseason team, but now the Giants are the ones with their backs against the wall. Glad to see KC not only putting up a fight, but taking a series lead and showing that the Giants aren't the only team who can take the opening game on the road. The Royals are proving that they are no 2007 Rockies. It's a four-game series now, the Giants need to win three of them, and frankly I don't see that happening. I stand by my prediction of the Royals in 5 or 6 games.
  16. And no matter how well Maddon does; for instance, if he wins a World Series in his very first year as the Red Sox' manager, the first time the Sox begin playing poorly you will excoriate him with all of the usual insults: "********", "s*** warmed over", and the like. Maddon is a douchebag. He has done a lot for a Tampa franchise that was the joke of the league for a decade, but he hasn't actually won them anything besides a single ALCS and that could have gone either way up to the wire. Farrell has had one poor season and one World Series winning season, I wouldn't give up on him so soon.
  17. If the series goes 5 or 6 games, Royals. If it goes 7, Giants.
  18. Interesting factoid...the Royals are the only current MLB team who have never had a 40-HR season from any player. The Pirates and the Twins have not had one since 1973 and 1970 respectively, and the Marlins haven't since 1996. Everyone else has had at least one since 2000. But the Royals...never, in all their history. Very surprising.
  19. And he didn't just save some of the games, he saved all four, and none of them were three-run saves.
  20. Definitely. Showalter losing the ALCS is sweet, Showalter losing the ALCS in a sweep is even sweeter. The only thing that would have made it better was a no-hitter being mixed in somewhere. So, who is your series MVP? I have no serious argument with them picking Cain, but I would have gone with Holland.
  21. ...and that's it. The motherf***ing Kansas City Royals are going to the World Series. Holy s***. When I joined TalkSox, the Royals were the go-to synonym for hopelessness along with the Pirates. Over the years other teams have taken over that mantle: The Rays and Orioles, the Mariners for a while, the Nats at first, the Rockies...all of them have gotten much better. Now it's the Astros mostly, and even they look to have a bright future. I f***ing love baseball. This is awesome.
  22. Watching the Orioles on the verge of being swept is bittersweet to me. On one hand, I hate the goddamn Orioles and I hate Buck Showalter even more. On the other hand, you all know about Ami and the Orioles and it kind of sucks that they waited until it was too late to finally be a competitive team, she would have loved this. And I would have loved laughing maniacally at her while her team got bounced out of the postseason by Kansas f***ing City ahahahahah. Oh well. Go KC!
  23. Talksox is an improv show. The last year or so I like to call "Whose Whine is it, Anyway?"
  24. Giants didn't deserve to lose this game. They were just in the Wong place at the Wong time.
  25. No, I know. On some level I agree with you guys. I hate that so many people only pay special attention to their favorite team and couldn't name all of the other teams, let alone their players. Watching baseball for the sake of baseball does not exist at the same level anymore. I'm a baseball fan first and a Red Sox fan second, and that's why Kansas City is so damned exciting this season. It's sad that more people don't hold this opinion.
