I'm sorry, but how do you know this? There is only one person who can know this for certain, and that is Pedroia himself. Plenty of guys have sworn up and down that they'll play for their first team for their whole careers and then scarpered as soon as they were offered enough money to buy a private island made entirely out of cocaine-encrusted tits. There are guys who have assured the Red Sox fan community that they would never, ever, ever play for the Yankees because they hate them and whatever else, and then ended up, shockingly, playing for the Yankees. I'm not saying guys like you describe don't exist, because they do. Wakefield was one, we know that because of the recurring contracts he signed. But Dustin Pedroia is a far more valuable player than Wake ever was, and to say with 100 percent certainty that "he is one of those players" is ridiculous. The only way to know that for sure is to wait until he is done playing and look back. If he takes less money to stay with the Red Sox in the future, then he probably is. We have no way of knowing, however, if he would go to another team if they offered him more money or incentives or platform shoes. The Sox signed the deal that they considered to be the best one to keep him in Boston, so clearly the FO, who know more about the situation and Pedroia's options than any of us, felt otherwise.
