From today:
A report in the Palm Beach Post cites a source that says a deal for Burnett is “imminent,” and that the pitcher could be dealt before his start on Tuesday. And according to the Post, the Red Sox are one of the top bidders for Burnett’s services. The Marlins would like to package third baseman Mike Lowell, having a disapointing season and making $7.5 million, with Burnett, and it is rumored that the Red Sox are Orioles are neck-and-neck in the race to grab the talented righthander. The report says any Sox deal would include pitcher Bronson Arroyo and others, and Boston would have to take on Lowell as well. The report mentions another proposal that would be a three-way deal with the Marlins, Padres, and Red Sox, where Arroyo and third baseman Sean Burroughs would wind up in Florida and Burnett and Lowell would come to Boston. The Providence Journal reported that the Marlins are looking for a starting pitcher, reliever, and left-handed hitting outfielder in a deal, and that the Sox might part with outfield prospect Brandon Moss and Arroyo to consummate a deal.
