  1. QUIET. TEH YANKEES MADE A MOVE AND GOT A STEAL. DO NOT QUESTION JACKO'S AUTHOITAY!
  2. But don't worry Imperial the Yanks got a STEAL!
  3. I know you're used to paying mad money for players, but you're a fool if you think Gaudin could get $5+ million in salary arb, especially when Wang never did.
  4. Theo will never give a MR/CL...any non starter any long term extension at that kind of money. You're right I can't compare him to where he was...however if I was the GM, I'd gladly bring up his personal declining performance and use incentives where given. Papelbon would/will get the biggest FA closer contract ever. I hope he does, and I hope it's from the Yankees (I honestly do). I cannot see any reason to give any closer, even Mo, a contract that large b/c of the injury risk. You're paying a closer for 1 IP of work normally per apperance. If he gets injured, I'm out of money that could have gotten me a comparable pitcher like say John Lackey who can pitch 6+ IP per apperance.
  5. If Rivera's contract isn't put forth for Papelbon, he'd want at least Frankie Rodriguez money, and that's still too much $$ for a closer, especially a closer who's WHIP has been on the rise over the past 3 years, and his K rates slightly dimish over that time period. I'm not sure about you guys, but it seemed almost like every save opp Paps had last year he'd let a min of 2 ppl get on base then K the side or get a lucky DP ball. I don't want that from my closer.
  6. Cano hurts, me I live in NY currently, and when he came up he was a medoicre prospect type that had average success in the minors that projected by at least Michael Kay to be an average MLB 2B. Cano is lazy in the field at times, especially in 2008 but in 2009 he was excellent in the field. The other killer thing as mentioned previously is his plate patience. The year he hit .355, he had an OBP of what .365? That's pathetic and will hold him back. I remember Michael Kay compared him to Rod Carew that year...I hate Michael Kay.
  7. So important he wasn't offered a contract for this year.
  8. What everyone needs to also understand is Asante Samuel isn't as good as we think he is. He gets picks sure, but he can't tackle worth a damn.
  9. First and formost is resigning Vince Wilfork. Remember yesterday's game had an unhealthy Brady, Wilfork and Warren. Thomas has played his way out of Belichek's scheme of things and will be released, further freeing up money. The offense with Brady having more confidence in his knee and Welker coming back mid year will be good next year if they can establish a solid running game. Edleman seems like he can be Welker Jr., but needs more maturation as a WR. Free agent running backs include Pierre Thomas, Ronnie Brown, Cadalliac Williams, Leon Washington, Chester Taylor. As per defense...let's start with the line as Julius Peppers could be a free agent. Elvis Dumervil is also available, as is Marcus Spears, Adewale Ogunleye, Vince Wilfork, Richard Seymour and Barry Cofield. Line backers include: Shawn Merriman, DeMeco Ryans, D’Qwell Jackson, Bertrand Berry, and Derrick Johnson. What does worry me is Mankins on the FA list as a prime of career OL, would be nice to keep. But building up the defense is key to this.
  10. I agree, my wording caused an obvious misconception.
  11. Okay maybe I overstated, but if I had a .400 BA and hit all singles...
  12. Waiting for a logical response..
  13. Btw, bump for me being back.
  14. So that's all you got with a response? How about I ask about Pedrioa to Knoblauch? How about from Spencer to Ellsbury? Brocius to Beltre? I shouldn't expect more but ******* answers from ******* posters.
  15. I'm really interested to see your response to this Jacko, b/c outside of really one season by Martinez, there was no 30 HR threat in that Yankee line up. Just like the current Red Sox line up, lots of solid defense, lots of 20 HR hitters and good OBP throughout. Like the Yankees dynasty, the best pitching in the majors. Unless you're saying the Yankees teams of the late '90s were flukes and in reality sucked...
  16. f***ed in the way Texiera started off the year last year with Arod hitting behind him because he's a giant panzy? At least we have quality players in the farm system able to come up and help out instead of the Cody Ransom's the Yankees trotted out during injury. Who plays SS if Jeter goes out for a season again like he did a number of years back sliding into third I believe it was and dislocating his shoulder. Who replaces him? The Red Sox are the MUCH better defensive team at the moment than the Yankees with superior pitching. This team is MUCH more constructed now like the Yankee dynasty teams in the late '90s...unless you're saying that those teams were horrible. The Yankee teams of the '90's during most championship runs had Giraridi catching half of those, a declining Charlie Hayes/Wade Boggs then Scott Brosius...I hear they had .800 OPS. I heard that Chuck Knoblach hit his prime while with the Yankees. I heard that the random DH position of Jose Canseco to Darryl Strawberry to Cecil Fielder were all .800 plus OPS guys who smashed out 40 HRs. I heard they had 2 HoF Calibur hitters in the middle of their line up...I heard Paul O'Neill and Bernie Williams were hall of fame hitters in the 3/4 positions..I heard they mashed 40 hrs and did 130 rbi's every year. Oh wait. They had some of the best pitching available in that time period and a solid defense behind them with the exception of the dwindling years of Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams. What the Red Sox are doing now is EXACTLY what the Yankees did in the late 90's. They have home grown talent: Lester, Buccholtz, Papelbon, Pedrioa, Youkilis, Ellsbury: They're taking the best pitching staff in baseball from starting rotation to the bullpen (like the Yankees did with Wells, Clemens, Pettite, Cone, Rivera, Nelson, Stanton) and going to dominate that way. Think about it: C --- Posada --- Martinez 1B --- Martinez --- Youkilis 2B --- Knoblauch --- Pedroia SS --- Jeter --- Scutaro 3B --- Brosius --- Beltre LF --- Spencer/Strawberry --- Ellsbury CF --- Williams --- Cameron RF --- O'Neill --- Drew DH --- Fielder --- Ortiz Look familiar...?
  17. No one understands how teams like the '03 Marlins or the '96-'00 Yankees won titles. Pitching. Defense. Wins.
  18. LOGIC DIPRE, STOP IT.
  19. Essentially brain storm and do some research into plausible free agent or trade additions and make up your potential roster for 2011. Seems as though 2010 is set in stone, but we will be making some major changes for 2011. I can't wait to see people including Pujols and Mauer into their 2011 roster, which is folly in itself, but this should be interesting nonetheless for quality posters.
  20. I've posted twice the listing of current FA's to be available for 2011. There will be several holes to fill, but those can be started to be filled in with our farm system with the Lars Anderson's, Ryan Kalish's, Ryan Westmoreland's and such. Using FA wisely going on is a good thing while allowing the Jason Varitek's, Dustin Pedroia's, Kevin Youkilis', Jacoby Ellsbury's and such come up for the positional avenues. Worked obviously before. As far as pitching goes for 2011, Lester, Lackey, Matsuzaka, Buccholtz, Bowden is a very formidable group to go against. You don't need a Josh Beckett to be successful with Bowden coming along.
  21. 1). 2B Pedroia R 2). RF Drew L 3). C Martinez S 4). 1B Youkilis R 5). DH Ortiz L 6). 3B Beltre R 7). CF Cameron R 8). SS Scutaro R 9). LF Ellsbury L
