  1. Can people not assume: A: A move was done in lieu of trading for a reliever, or any move for that matter, or that Ambres was even sought after by anyone, especially those who have relievers to give up? B: That if you don't know how to spell the player's name you're up in arms about, that people will think you know who you're talking about? Graffanino was the best upgrade the team could likely get at a spot that needed to be addressed. There's absolutely no way of knowing that any worthy reliever could have been had for the same package. None. I'd much rather a good utility player for that package than say the overrated and overpriced Hasegawa from SEA, who doesn't represent any upgrade, outside of name valueTM. Furthermore, one thing that should be noted, Theo Epstein knows a whole lot more than any person posting on any of these forums. Seriously. I'm sure he's actually been on the phone with any team possible, and came to the conclusion this was the best move the team could make right now. You can take that to the bank.
  2. Certainly did, though I still think that av is pretty funny. For what it's worth (regarding the trade), Juan Cedeno was one of Zen's faves, I never got the obsession.
  3. I don't really like the A's, but it's pretty incredible how much they've turned around. Shades of 2001.
  4. Let's be real, the Red Sox don't NEED AJ Burnett, they NEED to address other holes like infield depth (check), and they're going in the right direction with addressing the bullpen by acquiring Bradford and at least addressing Embree's "situation". Hell, the Red Sox "need" to address 1B before another starter. The Red Sox, regarding Burnett, needed to up the cost for the Orioles, and whether they did or not is anyone's guess. All I know is the O's are giving up quite a bit of depth on their team in hopes that Burnett is the ace they're lacking.
  5. Well, it looks like Foulke's knee was hurt pretty bad, which is much better news than hearing it's just mental. And to the Foulke haters, cut him some slack, I doubt you could even properly assemble a Double Whopper with cheese while working on a torn up knee, nevermind pitch in the major leagues.
  6. Yeah, second base isn't hard. It's just shortstop with a few less balls hit to you a week. I'm sure Millar would be great at turning the double play, too. Or covering second on steal attempts. Let's put Manny in center because it's not that far away from left field.
  7. Yeah, he's such a big Yankee fan that he nearly climaxed celebrating Mueller's walk-off against Rivera last July.
  8. I saw someone bashing Bellhorn today for hitting a home run and striking out 3 times. I kid you not.
  9. I didn't need to read the Millar to second base comment to know that "joe" was either retarded or a troll, or both. It's people like him that make me reconsider my stance on post-adolescent abortion.
  10. Vazquez had 9 wins and an ERA of 3.42 last June 30th. Clement has 9 wins and an ERA of 3.33 on June 30th this year.
  11. Good call! Just kidding, that was actually obvious to anyone who has been paying attention the past couple of seasons. And the brilliantly named 2090 was dead-on about Clement. He's allowed a whopping 1 home run at Fenway thus far. One home run ended the Red Sox season in 2003, so Clement obviously has a lot of work ahead of him.
  12. Cla Meredith likes soda. Cla Meredith's car is green.
  13. Smith signed. He had no committment to college, because USF kicked him to the curb when they found out he fudged his transcript. A former co-worker, who coached against him in Senior Babe Ruth on the Cape, said the kid had some personal issues and his stock had plummeted between his junior and senior year of high school. He was once touching 95, and was throwing high 80s as a senior.
  14. It's awful for someone hitting .372. Noted hacker Nomar Garciaparra put up an OBP of .434 when he hit .372, with a SLG of .599. He had more than twice as many extra-base hits.
  15. Yes, but even in that event, wrestling will still be super-gay rain or shine.
  16. It should be interesting to see how Randy handles the postseason pressure of being the number 1 starter for the Yankees (if they make the playoffs), considering how mediocre he's been in the past when asked to shoulder the load for his past teams. Randy's the type of guy who's an incredible pitcher, that needed a Curt Schilling to take some of the heat off of him.
  17. After singling his way to the hits record, I'd say him hitting .407 would make even that high-water mark a bit less important. Let's see him have an OBP of .553 and SLG of .735, and then maybe I'd waste my time following Ichiro.
  18. Oh my goodness. This is sig. worthy!
  19. I'm eternally grateful to Roberts, but Mueller and Nixon played a slightly bigger role than he did. Without Mueller's shot up the middle, or Nixon's hit and run that put Roberts on third (leading to Varitek's sac fly), the Red Sox simply have a fast runner on base, which is And why was a thread need on this? Ted Williams is arguably the greatest player of all time, what competition on the Red Sox (outside of Jimmie Foxx) would he even have?
  20. So how does that explain his career best 2002 season? Or his 142 ERA+ in 2003? Somewhere along the line, he was hurt. Grady absolutely pitched him into the ground down the stretch in 2003. He's been used like a rubber-armed vet ever since hitting the bigs for good in 2000. He was quite effective when he came over to Boston, but his stuff certainly looked worse than it did the year prior, when he was absolutely filthy against the Red Sox. He was hitting 94 on the gun, and his slider had insane break on it. Kim got over 2001, it's those with a Yankees obsessed mindset that never did. He's had struggles, and I've never seen "fans" act so heartless towards a young pitcher that obviously didn't need that at what was already a low point in his career (Fossum in 2003 after the Colon fiasco comes a close second). Do you think HE didn't know he was sucking?
  21. Yeah, you're right, Clement should see a nearly 10 run per 9 inning jump making the switch in leagues, Arroyo should not only lead the team in ERA, but will post an ERA not seen since the Duquette era, and the Red Sox should make a trade for Barry Bonds. All feasible, likely occurences. Here's a good foreshadowing on my behalf: you're never going to get laid in your lifetime.
  22. Yeah, he's just going to trade away his rookie class. I wouldn't put any money on that possibility. Considering Philly was falling over themselves to get Blount this offseason, I wouldn't say no one wants him. Comparing his salary to his production his contract may look bad, but if you actually take the time to compare him to other centers in the league, he's about middle of the pack in terms of value. Offhand, I'm guessing Foyle and Theo Ratliff are making more than Blount. And if you're a GM, and you'd take either over Blount, you're absolutely insane. That's just for starters, I'm sure there are plenty more less productive centers than Blount making more than him.
  23. Why, because Fenway is a bad park for home runs, especially against right handed pitchers? If Vazquez went to Boston, he'd actually have a pitching coach.
  24. Wow, I'm a poster there? Awesome. It's too bad they want me to leave, though.
