  1. Relievers should just learn how to play first base. Really. Think about it.
  2. I'll just say Bernie seems like a nice guy, and even nicer that he turned down the huge contract the Red Sox offered him before 1999. And I honestly, right now, see the Yankees winning 27. That should be good for what, 83 wins?
  3. I think 2002. The land that Campanelli Stadium is on used to be a bit of swamp land and there were tennis courts, an extension of the Brockton High sports facilities (no, they didn't have swamp swimming).
  4. A guy got stabbed on Main St. in Brockton, ran through back roads and through some yards, and ended up collapsing dead in this lady's back yard. It was 5 feet from my brother's side yard. Actually not that bad a neighborhood.
  5. If you're ever going to a game again, I live about 5 minutes away from Brockton. Haven't been since last year.
  6. Offhand, all I could think of was the reliever Jairo Garcia. I'll check BA, because I honestly don't know outside of the obvious, and those they got in the Mulder and Hudson deals.
  7. The A's pitching and defense is better than their offense.
  8. Barry Zito starting the final game of the 2002 season to pad his Cy Young resume, when he should have been in line to start two games against the lefty-phobic Twins. A's lose 3-2. Simply put, the A's have had some bad luck. They've also faced some great Red Sox and Yankees teams, who had too much talent and heart to just roll over and die down 2-0. They've had a great run for a team that did a lot with very little. Their playoff slump is on par with Bonds' slump coming into the 2002 postseason.
  9. Papelbon Lester Anibal Sanchez meredith Delcarmen Hansen Shoppach Pedroia Youkilis Hanley Ellsbury These who I see as big league regulars. Not saying the others won't, just who I think will right now. Alvarez will, but not with the Red Sox. I also don't think all of these players will necessarily be all with the Sox, but I see them all being at least average players in the league. I'd commit suicide if Alejandro Machado were DHing for the Red Sox. I mean, seriously?
  10. This guy would disagree: http://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/weaveea99.shtml He never played the game, though, so what did he know?
  11. Moneyball never says that pitching is bad. Pitching is always correctly, or overly valued. The "Moneyball" A's had Hudson, Mulder and Zito. They now have a great future rotation in Harden, Zito, Blanton, Haren and Meyer (if he's healthy). Would you take their rotation over the non-"Moneyball" small-market teams like the Reds, Devil Rays, Royals and so on? They're all working with similar payrolls, why do the A's who seemingly don't care about pitching, have so much more pitching?
  12. I've visited that site I think, and go to Elephants in Oakland occasional, but I'm a Red Sox fan. The only time I really visit those sites have been when they're playing Boston, and after the Payton trade.
  13. I agree on Soto, but I don't see half of those players being major league regulars. That's not pessimism, that's absolutely realism. I've never seen Moss as someone who projects to hit more than 20 a year. A lot of those guys have little power, and most project as 15-20 guys, if they reach their peaks. I'm just saying I see one real power bat out of them, and that's Shoppach.
  14. Can't find a website with non-tabled standings, but the A's are currently one game out of first. A's in Minny to face a stumbling Twins squad, Haren Vs. Mays. Anaheim at home versus a stumbling Orioles squad, Fatty versus Fatty. A's currently 13.5 games out of last place.
  15. That team would hit 70 home runs. 35 of which would be by Shoppach. Shoppach won't be in the system long enough to be the starting catcher.
  16. Mo Vaughn, 1994-1998. Nomar pre-2001. Both of their departures seemed to cripple the Red Sox, or not.
  17. Noah, what's the point with the Pedro quote in your sig? He says the same thing every year. He said last year, the worst season of his in years, that he had never felt stronger. Pedro had a 97 mile an hour fastball in 1999 and 2000 as well.
  18. 1. Jon Lester 2. Anibal Sanchez 3. Jon Papelbon 4. Manny Delcarmen 5. Hanley Ramirez 6. Craig Hansen 7. Dustin Pedroia 8. Kelly Shoppach 9. Mickey Hall 10. Jacoby Ellsbury I guess.
  19. Hmm...I actually only read the first couple of posts in the thread, so I probably missed it. Damn.
  20. Well I honestly don't care, but it would be nice to knock out Oakland as the AL Wild Card. I just never understood why people didn't see Oakland at least as a .500 team, with some upside, and furthermore young players that would obviously do well beyond Mulder/Hudson/Zito's term. Anyways, I'd view this site as a more, if it were a consistent source of stuff and if there was a more frequent affilate program in regards to women, but I digress.
  21. Thank you. I hope to come up big with all of my posts.
