Yeah I'll take Arroyo over Clement. I'm nervous Clement will never be the same after getting beamed, falling apart in the 2nd half, and having surgery. Deffinitly keep Arroyo who is still a familiar face and actually a Red Sox veteran. Its amazing that he has been around this team longer than most guys. I've never heard the Red Sox make this bad of a move where they trade Marte and Mota for Crisp. I also don't see them making the trade for Crisp and Reed. Both are backup options of Damon is gone and to be honest....I might welcome a trade of Clement or Arroyo for Crisp since the guy is young, fast, good defense, some power, steals bases, and is a switch hitter....all of a sudden he appears to be a nice option to lead off for the Red Sox.
-
If we could get more than Crisp I would be happy. I would love to figure something out with Jhonny Peralta. That guy is an awesome player and will be an elite SS. I'd still be nervous about giving up Marte. In the end he could be a 40+ HR hitter for us; not to mention strong defensive skills.

Jon Garland on the Block?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to yankeessuck013's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I agree I won't say he is terrible. However, I still don't think his stuff is that great. If he can keep his good command its still possible batters start to figure him out more. When he needs to adjust again it could be a problem for him. I could be completely off with him and its possible this guy really can pitch. He did kick the crap out of us. -
There is no way in hell they should turn around and trade Marte and Mota for Crisp. That is too much to give up. Trading Arroyo or Clement for Crisp is ok but not our newly aquired top prospect and one of our top relievers. I'm also reading the Sox may have picked up interest in Lugo again....STOP! Devil Rays want too much and he is 30 AND he isn't that good. I'm hearing some really bad rumors lately.
-
Wow I would take both of those deals (talk Mariners into Clement). Have Jeremy Reed play CF and Coco Crisp playing RF. Meanwhile we would lose two starters but between Wells and Manny Ramirez we could probably come up with another starting pitcher and a reliever. Our defense would look much better and those two guys would probably lead off for us. I like that idea.

Jon Garland on the Block?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to yankeessuck013's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Can't say I'm real interested in Garland. He is a good pitcher but I think what we saw from him last year is his limit. He won't be any better than he was in 2005 although he could repeat that success. Jon Garland falls into the Matt Clement class for me.....can be good at times...will really suffer other times. -
Well I can say this for Youkilis....it had to be hard jumping up and down between AAA and MLB last season. Not only did he handle it well but he produced great numbers in AAA. I deffinitly have doubts but I don't have a problem giving him a chance. He does deserve it. I think the closest backup option revolves around Andy Marte and Mike Lowell changing up from 3rd. I'm curious about the state of Roberto Petagine?? Do we still have him cause I think that guy can really hit the ball with some power. Very limited action last season but the guy can produce and play solid defense. I think he is also a lefty so if we can't find someone he may be able to step up and platoon with Youkilis.
-
Well to be honest I think you might both be wrong. I'm not sure Hinske, Hillenbrand, or Youkilis is the answer for 1st base. I would rather see what Youkilis can do rather than the others but I'd be shocked to see Youkilis post 25+ HRs. Which for a 1B is alright but not great.

Jeremy Reed to Boston?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to schillingouttheks's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I think the Red Sox just need to match whatever offer the Yanks or Dodgers put up for Damon. I still think he wants to be in Boston and would choose our team over anyone else. -
Ramirez Asks For Trade (merged)
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to Cityofchampions33's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
If you placed Beltran ahead of Ortiz in the batting lineup I can guarantee he would put up decent numbers. Not to mention he would be playing most games in Fenway park. Ortiz makes great contact too so you could send Beltran a lot bringing up his stolen bases (provided he is healthy). All of this, however, does not mean I would take Beltran over Manny Ramirez. -
Jeremy Reed to Boston?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to schillingouttheks's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
By the numbers... He looks like a lead off man to me. His AA-AAA-MLB stats show the guy has potential as a good OBP player but they also show he has no power. That could change however and to make up for his lack of power he does have good speed. -
Jeremy Reed to Boston?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to schillingouttheks's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I don't know what to think of this. Mostly because I don't have great knowledge of Jeremy Reed although I would gladly welcome his defensive abilities. Sounds like he is already making his case for elite center fielder. It would appear the guy has practically no power but he can still hit and he has potential. If the Sox made this deal I think it would place him as our lead off hitter. Offensively its a downgrade from Damon in the immediate future but probably an upgrade defensively. The loss of Matt Clement brings up some questions. The Red Sox could be looking for another starter or simply stick wtih Bronson Arroyo in the rotation until Jon Lester is ready to make an impact. From a money standpoint I would love to see the Mariners take on Clements contract. Considering this offseason we have taken on Mike Lowells contract and have to pay part of Renteria's I would like to reduce some of this money if possible. -
Alright I'm late on this too but we are talking about Berkman and Lidge for Manny.... YES Lance Berkman is a excellent hitter and Lidge is a top reliever (closer or not). Maybe Berkman isn't the same guy Manny is but he is better than just about all options (except Tejada) I have heard in a possible Manny Ramirez deal. On top of that you get Brad Lidge who has nasty stuff and will continue to be a great pitcher for years. So you increase your bullpen strength and add an additional switch hitting bat to the arsenal. This would be a no-brain trade. The Houston Astros just had another great playoff run and we would be taking there top relief pitcher and best hitter....hello?? Of course we would do that.

I could not agree more. Most of them are so rediculous but none are worse than Sean Salisbury for an NFL analyst. At least other stations have guys who were successful like Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Jim Kelly, etc....ESPN even has Steve Young and Ron Jackson.....but Sean Salisbury??? I hate it when he does an analysis on a QBs play....like he was anything special
-
Fantastic talent who is not cheap. This guy is a top closer in the league and I wouldn't look too deep into his numbers for the postseason. The guy can pitch. However, the Red Sox and Astros are not really a match for a trade. We have a couple starters to offer in David Wells and Matt Clement but I'm sure neither of those guys are worth a top closer. Houston is not about to take on Manny's contract I don't believe. Not to mention I would want more than Lidge in return for Manny Ramirez. ....like I said the teams don't match up and I think Houston should be smart and keep him. With a top closer they will win more games rather than adding another bat.

Clemens to the Red Sox? (go out the right way)
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to Bostons_Finest's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
The fact the Red Sox have made some real nice moves has to make a veteran like Clemens interested. He has to think that with the rotation we have already he would have a great chance of going out with another World Series. What better way for the Rocket to go out then to win a World Series with the team he started with. You can't beat that....absolute amazing story. I just want to imagine and take a look: Curt Schilling Roger Clemens Josh Beckett Tim Wakefield Jonathan Papelbon ....damn that would be fun to watch -
The writing is on the wall...he wants to go to Boston. Its no coincidence that hours later from the Renteria trade, Tejada says he wants to go to a competitive east coast team. Not to mention he is good friends with Ortiz. I have a feeling if Baltimore doesn't figure out a way to deal him to us then he will drop his trade demand.
-
I agree with that. The Red Sox mentioned they want to get Marte's bat in the lineup. He is ready to contibute and really doesn't need a lot of time (if any) in the minors. He could knock 20+ HRs his first full season.

Who the hell does Lyle Overbay think he is?
SchillingIsTheNatural replied to Soxfan1's topic in Other Baseball
That is pretty bad on his part. The Blue Jays have gotten better but last I looked...up and down the rosters I'm still taking the Yanks and Sox over them. -
Kinda like Baltimore knowing what Tejada can do when he faces them. It works both ways. Except we have a better all around team than the Orioles.
-
I can't believe how unrealistic you guys are. You all have no idea what you are talking about. This is the most rediculous thread ever created. Wake up and come back to earth.....(just being sarcastic) I would never trade Papelbon and Lester...actually I wouldn't trade either period...they are going to be a top 1-2 combo for our starting rotation in the end. I would deffinitly throw in Arroyo with Manny to get the deal done. I would even add Matt Clement if the Red Sox thought they could get a good replacement in the starting rotation for him. Suddenly this whole thing we were talking about (Manny for Tejada) makes sense to the Red Sox organization. Guess we were on the right track...go figure Just wanted to mention also that the New York Times is great. They say the Orioles aren't interested in trading a marquee player for a guy Boston is trying to unload. Well if Tejada is serious...wouldn't Baltimore be doing the same thing?? Are they also implying that Manny Ramirez is not one of our marquee players?? Idiots!
-
That he is....but don't be a jerk....I met him once and he is nice (didn't talk to him long but still).....he did help bring us a championship and I'll always remember him for that. Good picture tribute!
-
Blown up contracts?? Like Tejada's?? At this point in Manny's contract the money is pretty much the same. Gordon Edes showed us that much. Tejada doesn't want to be in Baltimore. Manny doesn't want to be in Boston. Red Sox need a short stop. Baltimore has plenty of room in there average outfield for Manny Ramirez. So why would this happen...well I'm sure both teams don't want players on there teams who don't want to be there and would create a potential problem. Not to mention the Orioles haven't made much noice...this would be the biggest noise of the offseason...don't you think the Orioles fans would get excited....not to mention with everything Sosa and Palmeiro I bet the Orioles would like a mix up. So I'm going to stay optimistic cause it makes sense...it just comes down to the teams figuring it out. As far as the "no trading within divisions" thing....in this case both teams are helping each other
-
There are a couple things to keep in mind about Baltimore: For the past couple seasons they have attempted to make a run at the division. Spending big money on Palmeiro, Tejada, Lopez, etc. and it has not worked out for them. Now they are facing a division where they may be the weakest team. Boston, NY, Tampa Bay, and Toronto have a better looking chance in the division than Baltimore. At this point the Orioles have some young talent at pitching but are not ready to jump to the level of the other teams. Quite simply I don't think they can compete, especially with what little progress they made this offseason. They lost out on Burnett and couldn't resign there best player in the bullpen. Now its no coincidence Tejada made his feelings known right after Renteria was traded. He even mentioned Boston as his top destination so it comes down to Baltimore and the Red Sox figuring something out. This is the same as David Wells wanting to go to San Diego or Manny wanting to go to the west coast. The Baltimore Orioles will look into it cause they don't want someone who doesn't want to be there. This is not that far fetched. Since the Orioles have not made any moves and have a frustrated locker room this will effect the fan support. If the Orioles and Red Sox trade star for star....then Baltimore will be a hit and the fans will be excited to go watch one of the best hitters the game has to offer. Obviously it works the same way for Boston fans. The money is close to the same, the player caliber is close to the same, the players both requested it. ........make it happen
-
I want Tejada when he was a free agent...I screamed it from the roof tops for the Red Sox to get him. Tejada is another clutch hitter and I'd love to add him next to Ortiz. Can it happen?? Probably not unless we traded Manny straight up for Tejada which I would be fine with. Come to think of it if Manny would have gone to the Mets why not Baltimore?? Its only an extra 4 hours south. Two guys unhappy about the current state of things... Tejada can go to a team with a chance to win.. Manny can go to Baltimore and hide.. ...if that doesn't work the Red Sox can trade Manny to a team for prospects and send them over to Baltimore for Tejada. Either way now that I'm reading....doesn't it seems like a great coincidence that we need a SS...and suddenly Tejada wants to be traded....hmmmmm
